iPad … iCrazy?
Carly Icon

Yes, for those of you wondering if Carly the Apple/Mac fanatic is going to be getting Steve Jobs’ newest gadget, the iPad, the answer is YES. How can I not? Have you SEEN it?

Height:
9.56 inches (242.8 mm)
Width:
7.47 inches (189.7 mm)
Depth:
0.5 inch (13.4 mm)
Weight:
1.5 pounds (.68 kg) Wi-Fi model;
1.6 pounds (.73 kg) Wi-Fi + 3G model

GLOSSY INCHES OF GORGEOUS GADGETRY!
Hubby said if I get it with 3G service, I give up my iPhone.
I said, “Done.”
Janelle said she read an article listing 10 reasons NOT to buy this product.
I said, I could have listed all those same reasons and I’m STILL so there.

Now come on, for anyone who’s been coming to this blog for years, are you at all surprised?

Carly

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

Nope, not surprised LOL. I always wait til all the hoopla dies down then I decide whether or not it’s worth it. So far I’m not impressed, but we’ll see what comes of it.

Not surprised at all. I would love to get one right away, but will have to wait for all the hoopla to die down this time. Hope to have one by next year(price is a bit high for me right now too).

My question ,as a writer, is it worth it for that? I mean i like playing music at the same time as I write. Can I use the ipod app at the same time as pages. those are the questions i have before I commit.

Lou, Probably not. But you have to know me. I just HAVE to have it. I don’t use my iPhone as a phone, I have a Blackberry, I use it for the apps. I can use this the same way, I can READ on it (I’m guessing I can still use the Kindle App I have on my iPhone for books I already have or want to order) … I guess time will tell! There’s always ebay to sell it if it doesn’t work out!

I really have no use for something like that at all. The only Apple product I own is an Ipod because when I wanted an MP3 player everyone said their’s worked so well. And as far as reading…i’d rather have a real book in my hands.

I’m not that impressed with it either. It’s just too big for me to pop in my purse on the way out the door so I have my ereader with me. I have my iTouch for the apps, when it wants to connect, which it always doesn’t. I have no idea why. It’s a 1st generation, so I just think I am ready for an upgrade on it. As for paying for another service, since I have to with my Blackberry, it’s just an expense that I can’t justify.

On top of which, I would want the most expensive one and for a little bit more could buy a Mac that would be so much more practical.

This is the first I’ve heard of it. I’ll have to check it out, see what it does.

Nope, not surprised. Not one lick. You’ve probably ordered yours already, haven’t you?

    But I have to admit, it’s sweet-looking.

I am not surprised, Carly. I just got an Iphone and love it (and I don’t really know all of the things I can do with it). I just love that I can be at the bus stop and check my email and surf and play games. So pathetic. My husband says a SAHM doesn’t need one, but I do (just wait until I move my calendar there!!).

I’ll have to check out the Ipad…is it like the thing they are using on Project Runway?

I have decided I’m going to buy one. I’m just disappointed that walmart won’t carry it; which means I’ll have to get it directly from Apple.com

Hey Carly, I figured you would be first in line when I heard news that the iPad was coming out. The question I had was about what colour were you going to get. Is it going to be pink or are you a red kick? I hope it is everything you expect, or rather would like, it to be. Have a great rest of this snowy day. Is it snowing in NY too? I can’t believe this change in the weather. Really not happy about it.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

    Not surprised at all.
Not sure what to think of this as yet. I think that they mentioned on the news how long it will take to be released in NZ, but I didn’t take any notice. But that doesn’t really matter since apparently unlike the iPhone, an iPad bought in the US will work here. Until they are used by people locally, it is likely that I won’t fully form an opinion.

Not surprised Carly. When I was watching the news yesterday while Steve Jobs was still doing the intro I wondered how soon you would be buying one! :giggler:

I’m not someone that needs or wants the latest tech gadget but this does intrigue me. I’ve never used Apple products. Since I’ve been looking at Netbooks, just looking, I’m wondering how this would do & what the cost really would be. If, big if, I decide I want one it won’t be for awhile. They are bound to have bugs that need to be taken care of. It seems most new tech gadgets are better bought after they have been on the market awhile. Budget also denies me buying much of anything for now!!!

Oooooh. I want one too! Which one are you going to get? The wi-fi or the 3G?
I’m going to wait until I can see one in person so I can decide which I want – and the nifty dock with the full sized keyboard and a case and some new apps and…

    Hi Carly
    Nope not surprised. But waiting
100 days might make it cheaper
    (remember last time) and second
Version always gets the bugs out.
I know you’ll get it anyway. :snowguy:

I am technologically challenged. I would love a Kindle so I can keep reading without ruining my books from so much use. But there is something about the actual paper pages — can’t give it up!

Carly–if a gadget helps you get-er-done, I say go for it. I’m not a Mac user, but sometimes feel a little envy at the Mac products. Have fun with it.

It’s pretty crazy stuff. I’ll stick with my iPhone, Kindle, and EEE PC for a while longer before I dish out another $500+ for a gadget. I love me a new gadget but I’m going to play it smart this time and wait.

Plus, I’d hate to drop that thing! Hubby dropped his iPhone once and it was bad. Not wanting to purchase another iPhone due to droppage ever again!
