I am buried in deep deadline hell and I have a nasty sinus infection. I’m on the downhill slide and I MUST finish by Feb 1. Needless to say I
had no idea what I was going to post for today and I had no time to think about it. And then while reading email, specifically an online article from PREVENTION MAGAZINE called Surprising Signs You’ll Live to 100, this one jumped out at me:
You Embrace Techie Trends
Learn to Twitter or Skype to help keep brain cells young and healthy, says Sherri Snelling, senior director for Evercare (part of United-Healthcare), a group that sponsors an annual poll of US centenarians. Many of the oldest Americans send e-mails, Google lost friends, and even date online. Researchers say using the latest technology helps keep us not only mentally spry but socially engaged: “Stay connected to friends, family, and current events, and you feel vital and relevant,” says Snelling.
I don’t know about you, but any excuse to continue with my email, Twitter, computer obsession works for me! Like I needed an excuse?
Carly Knitting Update – I finished 2 scarves and I’m ready to go to a knitting store and try a blanket!
But not until I finish this story, so back to work for me!

Carly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

Oh wow, so happy to hear that about Twitter. It’s my newest obsession.
Hope you feel better Carly! Sending healing, germ-free vibes your way!

Feel better soon Carly. We can’t have your sinuses interfering with your next release. LOL Seriously I hope you feel better.
As far as living to 100. I only want to do that if my kids are still alive. I absolutely do not want to out live them. I can’t think of anything worse.

Sinus infections suck big time! A daily dose or two of a nasal saline solution really does cut down on them.
I tend to agree about learning new technology to keep your mind going. Hubby is going to be 76 next week and is learning Twitter for his job. And Facebook. He’s ahead of me when it comes to so much technology. I can use it but getting it to do things for me is a whole nother story. iTouch and apps anyone?

I can see how this can make you spry. Me, I hate doing Sodoku puzzles, they bore me to death and crosswords the same way. I try to learn at least one thing each day (not matter how silly) and once a year I try to learn one big thing.
Take care, Carly…I have been in that boat with ya!

I hope you feel better soon, Carly!!
My dad will be 82 in April and he is addicted to Facebook!
He spends hours on there each day, playing Farmville and commenting on all of his friend’s walls. I tell him all the time how impressed I am with him and his willingness to embrace new technology.
He had an aunt that lived to be 109 (she just passed away 2 years ago). Maybe with the gene pool, as well a his enthusiasm for life – and Facebook – he’ll be able to live even longer than she did!!
Thanks for sharing that great tid-bit!! I’m going to pass it on!!

I hope you feel better soon!
With regard to living to 100, as a nurse I can tell you that how long you live is not nearly as important as the quality of the life you live. I always say, “Who wants to live to be 100 if they have to do it confined to a bed in a nursing home?” That being said, imagine my delight in learning that some of the things I love most, (blogging, facebooking, and staying connected with friends) will help to keep me mentally spry. (So that later in life I can remember who it is I’m blogging, facebooking, and staying in contact with!)

I miss twitter! *whine* I’m under the gun, too, so I’ve tried to ignore my net addiction. I’m closing in on my deadline so I get to rear my ugly head from time to time and at least catch up on my blog addiction.
Get well soon, Carly! Come Monday, I disappear for real for two weeks. Net access in the middle of the Caribbean is expensive!
Break time is over. I need more

Hope you feel better soon Carly! I usually get at least 2-3 sinus infections a year(usually around peak allergy seasons).
Glad to know my love of twitter and facebook will keep my mind going. I’m thinking the reading I do each day helps out too.

In the future if you guys think about it and want to–could you do a blog about branding?
Thanks,

My husband suffered with a sinus infection for 3 months before I finally got him to go to the doctor. Five days of antibotics and he’s back to his old self. Take care of your health first before anything else. Writing follows health.
