Yes, I have a new obsession. It’s wearing scarves. Living in Oregon, I have all the more reason to wear them because it’s actually cold here! My obsession began last Fall, when I started noticing all the pretty, colorful scarves in stores. I never noticed scarves in California — mainly because it was always too darn hot to consider wrapping one around my neck! But here in Oregon, the Fall and Winter and part of Spring is cold. And I love it.
Last year, there were so many fun, vibrant scarves in the stores and I couldn’t resist picking up one here and there. I started wearing them more and more. This year, it’s become a standard, daily accessory to add to whatever I’m wearing for the day. Recently, I cut my long, curly hair into a sleeker bob hairstyle that exposes my neck, so now the scarves serve a dual purpose — as an accessory to my outfit, and as a neck warmer!
So far, I’ve collected over two dozen scarves, and I’m still counting. I have plain ones, leopard print ones, plaid ones, bright ones, fleece ones, knit ones, and so many others. And I love and wear them all!
It got to the point that I now have so many that I had to get a special “scarf” hanger so I could see what I actually have. Here are some pictures of “part” of my collection:

Oh, and I’ve even gotten my dog, Sandie, to wear a scarf! Doesn’t she look cute?

So, how many of you wear scarves? Am I the only one who’s obsessed with them? Is there anyone else who collects them the way I do?
JUST ADDED: By the way, since a few of you have commented on my new hair cut (in the picture with Sandie), I thought I’d post a better picture of it. I was wearing my hair long and curly (below my shoulders), and wanted something fresh and new. I love this new haircut, even though it is a lot more work because I have to actually straighten it!

Janelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

I don’t have a collection but do own a couple. I started crocheting scarf and hat sets for 3 of my great neices yesterday so this post has perfect timing. Love scarves too.

My mom made me a scarf that I love. It’s soft and fuzzy and warm! The one around Sandie’s next is hand made, too!
Comment
I live in Northern Michigan so wearing a scarf is almost necessary to stay warm. My mom knitted me one that wear all the time for the warmth. My Aunt made me another that is fun but not as warm.
Comment
I own several scarves, but I don’t always remember to grab one as I head out the door. The first part of January has been really cold(highs didn’t get out of the 20′s), so I did better.
Comment
I have to wear one waiting at the bus stop….nothing like standing still for 20 minutes to make you wear one. Cute scarves, Janelle.
Comment
Thanks, Katie! I have something to wear with just about anything, LOL. I love the “fun” prints!
Comment
Very, very cute haircut, by the way!

Love the new Haircut!
I have a huge collection too- from warm ones for the cold to silk ones for the warm weather. I keep them in a bamboo chest but am running out of room. Wish I had hanger space for them.
I tend to wear solid colors, very seldom are there patterns in my clothes so scarves are my way of adding patterns. One of my faves I got last year at the San Diego Zoo on the cross country road trip. It’s really long, lots of colors and goes with everything. I am hoping they sell them on the website as I wish I had bought all of the different ones that they had.
So no, it’s not just you!!

Love scarfs although I don’t wear them that often. I need to now since I just cut my hair as well to chin level and in the NE it is
Since I make them to sell, I need to get on the ball and make one for myself. I have crocheted about 20 ripple scarfs this year and they all sold. Scarfs are in this year. Maybe this week I will make one for myself since I just finished two baby blankets for a client.
Comment
Yes, you definitely need to make yourself a scarf! I’ll have to look up “ripple scarf” to see what they are!

I don’t wear scarves. I feel like I’m being choked.
I can wear a loose turtle neck but that about it.

Okay, feeling like you’re being choked isn’t a good thing, LOL!

I love scarves! I’m into the thin, silky ones right now, even though the weather isn’t exactly perfect for them. But they feel so nice against my neck!
Comment
I love the thin, silky scarves, too. They’re perfect for spring!

I have a few scarves but usually forget to grab one when I’m heading out the door.
Love your new haircut!

I LOVE scarves…I also have about 2 dozen and the great thing is my sister doesn’t live far away so we swap all the time!
Comment
So that’s like having DOUBLE the amount of scarves!

Only three or four scarves among my accessories, but I do love them! I have
been purchasing hats/scarves/gloves sets, but they were all being sent to my granddaughter. We’re from Houston, where it never snows (until last month!)
and she isn’t used to severe cold. She is experiencing it now in Indiana where
she is going to college!

I love really bright colored scarves, especially the silky ones that they have in Chico’s or in Bellagio’s, a “wearable art” store. The problem, I can’t stand to have anything wrapped around my neck.
I stand in the store and oooh and ahhhh over them, then walk out empty handed because I know it would be a waste to get them.
Sandie is too cute in that scarf! And I like your haircut, too!
Comment
Thanks, Alannah! That really isn’t a great picture of my new haircut. Maybe I’ll go ahead and post a good picture! It’s a really cute cut and I love it!

Janelle,
I love love your hair cut it is so cute. I have been thinking about cutting my hair short but hubby says no so we will see.
I have a couple scarfs but not many I think they are wonderful. You do have a lot of different ones.
Comment
I’m lucky that my husband prefers my hair shorter. He wasn’t thrilled with the long curly hair, and he likes this new cut so much better. So do I!

I am a native Oregonian and it doesn’t seem that cold to me. I don’t own any scarves.
Comment
It’s cold compared to what I was used to in California, LOL!

Over the years I’ve collected a few scarves. I really like them but don’t wear them to often any more. One of my favorites is one my daughter brought me from Iceland, a long story why she was there!!
Though I love scarves I don’t wear them to often as it doesn’t get real cold here most of the time. Even the silk ones add warmth. They are a great accessory to an outfit even the ones you leave on all day indoors. Yours are very colorful and pretty. I have a scarf hanger also but a bit different than yours. You and Sandi both look good, I like your haircut.

:rain: We are getting lots of rain here & will all this week.

I love scarves when its cold enough to wear them. I’ve got a few including one that I knitted last winter since I couldn’t find anything I truly liked.
As much as I love them, I only where them during winter (or more recently when the weather is behaving like its winter).
Loving the new haircut too.

I have a few scarves in my collection. I love the new longer ones that you can wear with just about everything. I am hooked on the scarves at Forever 21. lots of great color and styles all for around $12.00.
Janelle I love your new hair cut.
Comment
I’ll have to check out Forever 21, Ardie!!!

I love your new hair cut. I also collect scarves. I have been collecting scarves for years. All shapes, colors, styles, and material. Before I retired I would leave the house for work at 4:45 am so only the summer months were warm enough that early in moring to go without a scarf. I just love them.

lmao Janelle, you and Autumn could be related. I thought her shoe fetish was bad enough….but a couple years back she got into wearing scarfs (in New England they are sort of a must anyway when outside). But she wears dressy ones daily. She has them to match all her clothes, hell, she even has some with peace signs and smiley faces on them, and for christmas the neighbor bought her a black one with silver tinsel running through it and a while one with gold tinsel…Personally, I thought they were a little on the err…gaudy? side…..but she loved em.
BTW… When the hell did you move to Oregon and where the hell was I that I missed that??? (Get tired of the wild fires and earth Quakes?????)
Comment
I moved to Oregon about a year and a half ago! The family loves it here.
Comment
Oh…btw…she gets them at a couple of places but mostly a chain of stores called MAURICES.
Comment
I’m like Tami B. I don’t wear scarves or anything around my neck I always feel like I’m being choked I don’t even like turtle necks.
Comment
Hey Janelle, sorry I missed you. Yesterday was kind of crazy! Love the new do, and all your scarves. I never used to wear scarves alot, until I moved to America. I am like you. I collect scarves. Most of the ones I have are gifts though. Many of my parents give me scarves as gifts and they are truly beautiful. I love to match them with the outfit that I am wearing. I have casual wear and ones for a more formal look. There are also those that I just wear to work, and those I wear on the weekends. I told you, I have a lot of scarves…LOL!!! I hope that you are keeping warm in cold country. I am trying my best to stay that way here. I can’t believe how cold it has gotten. I swear it is the coldest it has ever been since I have been living in New England.
Peace and love,
Paula R.

I have a few scarves and think they are a great accessory. Remember when they were the big “in thing” to accessorize with a few years ago…then they sort of fell out of style so to speak but the last year they have come back in style. Guess it is true what they say styles and trends do come back aroung about every 10 years or so.
Love the new hair cut. It makes you look younger….not that you looked old.
Comment
Thanks, Barbara! I “feel” younger with the new haircut!
Comment
Wow that is alot of scaves. I love them but only have a few.

LOVE the scarves and the hair Janelle! My daughter loves scarves too!!!! Whenever we go somewhere and she sees some, it’s “Momma, can I get a new scarf?” LOL!!
