Movie Recommendations
Janelle Icon

Well, the holidays are almost over. Only New Year’s Eve/Day left to go, then hopefully things will return to normal again, LOL! I hope everyone got everything they wanted for Christmas! :santabag:

Over the long weekend, our family stayed home and rented and watched some movies. There are some really good movies out at the theater right now, and we’re hoping next weekend to get out and go to one or more. I hope some of you have seen the movies that we’d like to see and can share your review and recommendations of them for me, so we don’t end up seeing something that is a DUD!

Here are the movies on our list to see:

SHERLOCK HOLMES: I love Robert Downey, Jr., and Rachel McAdams, and the previews for this movie look GREAT. An action flick with what looks like some humor and a romance. Is it as good as the trailer makes it look?

Sherlock Holmes

IT’S COMPLICATED: This one features Alec Baldwin, Meryl Streep, and Steve Martin. The cast is a good one, and the premise of the movie looks like it could be really good, and really funny! I hope this one lives up to its hype!

Its Complicated

NINE: Wow, the cast in this movie is incredible! Penelope Cruz, Fergie, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Daniel Day Lewis, and even Sophia Loren! It’s a musical, which I do enjoy if it’s well done. If anyone has seen this one, I’d love to hear what they thought of the movie!

Nine Movie

THE BLIND SIDE: Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this movie! I don’t think we could go wrong if we decided to see this one in the theaters.

The Blind Side Movie

These movies are the top of my list, but if you’ve seen anything else recently that you’d highly recommend, please let me know!

Janelle

JanelleJanelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

Happy Monday! Hard to believe Christmas is over but that’s how it goes, doesn’t it?

All the ones you have here are on my list except Nine. Don’t really care to see that one. I also want to see Avatar. Hopefully now that Christmas is over I’ll get my chance to see them.

We saw Blind Side & It’s Complicated. Really like them both. Bring a few tissues for Blind Side. As a mom of boys, I shed a couple of tears.

We saw Holmes last night and loved it. I can’t wait to find out who is going to play Moriarity.

We are off to see Nine today at some point, I hope. My stepson saw it yesterday and said it was very good.

Up In The Air and Blind Side are on my list, and I will probably see It’s Complicated when Heather goes back to CA. Avatar is a maybe. It’s hard to watch movies when your kid is a film student and sees things differently now than she did before. :santalights:

LOVED IT!! I really enjoyed the music and Daniel Day Lewis is fantastic in it. The story line was great too. I actually want to see it again and think I will go get the soundtrack!

I want to see “Nine”, “Up in the Air” and “It’s Complicated”. I think “Nine” looks awesome (I love musicals, so how can I go wrong”; “Up in the Air” looks like such metaphor for part of me and “It’s Complicated” looks funny…

I forgot to mention that “Invictus” is a must-see for anyone….it’s really makes you think on so many layers. “Blind Side” is awesome…I think I have mentioned before…I hope that I am like Mrs. Tuoey and don’t give up on my boys, especially my son with autism. My family has told me that the boys work very well as a team…I hope that is true. I cried at the end of the movie…

Avatar seems to be the big movie of the season, but I’m not just into that stuff! But those who’ve seen it have said it’s very good.

Hey Janelle, I haven’t seen any of these. I really need to go to the movies too. I have heard some great things about all of these though. They were pleasant surprises. Enjoy! I might have to be a movie theater rat this week, before the kids get back for school.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

Janell, I will definitely try to. I am actually supposed to go see “Morgans” tomorrow, or rather today, because my friend Morgan says her name is in it. I have a mind to just go to the movie theater and start with a matinee and watch all the movies on my list. That would be long day at the theater, but what else can I do? I also picked up some really good books, and I need to read those too. What am I gonna do?

Carly, I am introducing your Hot series to another friend of mine. Love the new covers, but I love the old ones too. Still up in the air about whether I will give her the old set and replace my collection with the re-issues. It would make it more balanced, especially since Hot Property already has the hot guy and the others don’t. Still need to let this thought percolate.

I hope you guys had a great day yesterday. Today is cold, so snuggle up in your comfy beds if you can. Make it a movie day with the kids. Read a good book. Whatever your pleasure. Talk to you all later.

        Peace and love,
        Paula R.

If you like feel-good movies that also give insight into historical events, then try Invictus starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela. It’s the story of how the World Cup Rugby tournament united the nation of South Africa following the end of apartheid.

LOVED Sherlock Holmes! I am a huge RDowney fan and Jude Law was very easy on the eyes, too. :D

I really want to see Nine, It’s Complicated and Invictus. Maybe next weekend!

All those movies are on my “want to see” list. As of yet I have not seen any of them. Nine would be worth seeing just for Kate Hudson’s number!! I’m amazed that Sophia Loren came out of retirement for this part. She still looks wonderful. Avatar is not my type of movie, Invictus I can wait until it is on DVD. Some movies that get so much buzz & hype (like Avatar) turn out to be dud’s! That is my humble opinion. I’ve had people tell me a movie was good/bad but my opinion turns out to be different than theirs! 8)

We always wait for DVD. Lawyer Guy doesn’t do well in movie theatre seats. I can’t wait to see SHERLOCK HOLMES! That’s been on the top of my list since I saw the first trailer. A friend saw IT’S COMPLICATED and loved it as it was very close to her own family. It’s not on my list. The kids and the BIL/SIL saw AVATAR. They LOVED it! NINE is on the list, as is THE BLIND SIDE.

I just hope they release early!

I loved Sherlock Holmes too! It’s terrific! I also thought Avatar was great! Saw Up in the Air and didn’t care for it at all. It’s very depressing. I’ve still got to see The Blind Side and also look forward to Nine, although I’ve heard it’s a bit disappointing.

I hope you enjoy whatever you see, Janelle!

Saw Holmes on Saturday, and it was awesome! Normally movies don’t live up to the previews, but I thought this one did.

We’ve also seen The Blind Side, and it, too, lived up to the hype. Soooo good.

Also on my list is Invictus, Avatar, Did you hear about the Morgans (I’m such a ho for Hugh Grant!), and Brothers.

The only one on your list I’ve seen is “The Blind Side,” and it’s worth seeing. Very touching, and even more so because it’s a true story.

I absolutely LOVED “Avatar” and plan to see it again, and I’m planning to see “Up In The Air.” “It’s Complicated” looks cute, but I’m not sure if I’ll get to see it in the theatres or not.

If interested, I mentioned my thoughts about UP IN THE AIR in response to Karen’s post of 12/25 (comment #60). Liked it, but to me, is no comedy, but a drama. Clooney & Farmigna great. Subject matter, sad.

INVICTUS — We saw it on Christmas Day, and it was perfect. Uplifting, inspirational, moving.

Plus Matt Damon with his shirt off and a herd of Kiwis doing Maori war chants.
