HOT STUFF in stores (again) 12/29/09
Carly Icon

I know it’s Christmas Eve day and many of you are busy getting ready, but for those who have a few minutes to chat, I have news!

I have a soft spot for my HOT ZONE series and was thrilled to learn Harlequin would be reissuing the books! For 2010 we have the first two stories in the series:
HOT STUFF – January release – in store 12/29/09
HOT NUMBER – February release – in store 02/23/10
The series has HOT new covers, so if you missed them the first time or if you just like to collect new series editions, this release is for you!
And for more info. and an excerpt on HOT STUFF visit my HOT STUFF page at www.carlyphillips.com!

Now for today’s question – don’t feel bad, just answer honestly! I’m curious:

Do you buy reissues of past releases?
option 1: Yes – I must get the new cover/version!
option 2: No – I already own the book.
option 3: It depends on the author.

What’s your take and why?

And if you’d like to take the poll on this:

Carly

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

I guess it would be option 3, although it depends more on the book than the author. I have my all-time favorite books that I have bought re-releases for because it’s great to have an additional copy. Also, I like to buy rel-releases if they group a series of stories together. Then I’m getting a really great deal

I guess it would be #3 I normally don’t buy reissues if I’ve already read the book, but there are a few authors that I have SEP and Rachel Gibson and I too have a soft spot for the Hot Zone Series they were the first of your books that I read I read them out of order. As soon as I read that there was an Athlete Hero I was interested and after I read the firat book I was hooked. :ccane: :santabag:

My pick would be #3 too. If the re-issue is by one of my auto-buy authors I will buy the extra copy when it is in my book budget. I love the Hot Zone series and really LOVE the new covers.

Only if my originals are falling apart. I have so many books I want already that to rebuy just isn’t always in the plan. However, if it helps bring new readers to an author, I am all for it!!

    Merry Christmas everyone!!

If I loved it when it first came out, it’s fun to buy the reissue for my Mom or a friend. I rarely re-buy for myself-unless I’ve lost my own copy.

    Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! :bigxmas:

If I already own it, and it is not falling apart…then, no, I do not buy reissues. However, if it is a new to me author that I am trying to buy their backlist…then definitely YES I will buy the reissue.

Sometimes I like the old covers better…like when books have been turned into movies and the reissue has the movie characters on them…don’t like those…I will go out of my way to buy the older books.

    Merry Christmas everyone!!! :bigtree:

Hey Carly, I am so excited for you. I loved this series too, and I love the new covers. To answer your questions: I do by re-issues, but it depends on the author. Sometimes I end up buying a re-issue because I inadvertently picked up a copy of the newer version without realizing it, then I just have to get them all. Sometimes I buy them because they are paperback, then I donate the hardcovers I have to someone else. I hope that you are having a great day. If I don’t get back here before tomorrow, have a Merry Christmas everyone. I have to leave for NYC today. Driving is so not conducive to typing on a computer…lol.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

If I have the original version then I don’t buy the reissue – just no room on my bookshelves. I do buy reissues from certain authors that I love when I didn’t catch it the first time out.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and I hope Santa Claus is good to you all! :bigxmas:

Sorry I am an option 2. It is very rare that I will but a reissue.

Congratulations on the re-release of the Hot Zone books!

No, I usually don’t buy re-issues unless the covers are falling apart OR for some reason I didn’t buy the original release.

Carly, don’t you usually go on a big trip around Christmas?? I was looking forward to some more travel stories. :giggler:

    Happy Holidays everyone! :bigxmas: :Han1:

I’m option 2, no room for dups. Besides, I’d feel like I was passing over an old friend for new shiny one. I guess I should just look at it as an old friend that had a tummy tuck and boob job. :winking:

:hanstar: Hi Carly & all the Plotmonkeys… :monkey: :monkey: :monkey: :monkey: :bigxmas:

I’m Option #2, if I already have the book I don’t buy again. If it is a new to me author I may fill in on missing books that I don’t have. I’m so glad for you that they are re-issuing this series as I loved reading it. :lights: All Plotmonkey new books are auto buys for me! :yourock :ccane: :santaguy: :reindeer:

Enjoy what ever you are doing today! Indulge, it is Christmas! :bigxmas: :lights:  :present2: :santalights: :walksnowman:

I choose option 3. If I love an author I will purchase the re-release. even better if I can get an autographed version.

If I buy re-releases, it usually has less to do with the author or whether I already have the title and more to do with the cover. If I love the new cover (as I do with the new Hot Zone ones) I’ll donate my current copy to someone else and buy the re-release.

Where I’ve missed out on an earlier title, I do find re-releases handy, since it allows me to find the book. Any word on when Hot Item will be re-released since Hot Number is already scheduled?

Yes I buy reissues…for the new cover ???? Yes!!!!!
For the author???? Yes…..it’s a combination of both….we won’t go into how many copies or versions of your books I own……take your Karen Drogin books…I have in both Karen Drogin and the reissues under Carly Phillips. But it doesn’t end there…I also have them autographed…so I have three copies of them….then there is also the idiot (fanatic) in me who has to buy your books in Hardcover/softcover/mass market…and have them autographed…hell…I have three hardcovers of The Bachelor…in Hardcover only because I couldn’t bear to see them sitting there at tag sales and flea markets for 1.00 (gasp). They were lonely there and needed to be with their sisters on my bookshelves…It’s a sickness but even if I have I’ll buy and put it on the shelf if I see them under those circumstances…and I figure I’ll bring em next time I see you and have you autograph them for Amber and Autumn. (Hubby doesn’t share the same views…he says they are just kindling in waiting for a fire to start so the house can go poof! Jerk….well …what the hell does he think his crates of motorcycle and hotrod magazines are gonna do???? DUHHH????!!!)

:bigxmas: It depends on the book that I have sometimes I have read them so much that they are pretty rough looking so I get the new one. I have also picked them up by accident when I’m in a hurry and don’t pay attention that it’s a reissue. :bigtree: :ccane:

Option 3 – Kinda, Sorta – I have bought the re-releases when I missed out on the books the first time they came out. I have bought a couple rereleases also when my first book got so worn that I wanted a brand new book. In addition, I have bought the reissue when I wanted to give a gift to a friend.

Absolutely love the new cover Carly! Woo-woo!

    Have a fantastic holiday! :reindeer:
