So, I think I’m coming down with something. My throat is a little sore. I’ve had headaches off and on for a few days. I feel something funny in my right ear.
In other words, I’m getting sick.
I’m determined not to. I’m popping Echinacea. I’m downing Vitamin C in the thousands of milligrams. I’m not getting enough sleep, but that’s a constant in my life. I think I’ll make chicken soup sometime today. But I can’t be sick this time of year. I have Christmas, my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday (which I have done most of the planning for) and then my daughter’s birthday. I can’t be sick!!!
I’ve been fighting it for two weeks. I’m wondering how much longer I can hold out. Any advice on remedies to up my immune system that I haven’t already thought of? I’d take a day and sleep in, but I’m going to my aunt’s to make her infamous deviled crabs, then to my sister in law’s to make flan. Noche Buena is only a day away! And most of my presents haven’t arrived yet, so there is wrapping left to do.
Yikes!
How are you all feeling this time of year???

By all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

:santabag: Relaxed. Stress-free. I think the rum balls are helping LOL. I’m done shopping. I am looking forward to the holidays and a 3-day weekend. :bigtree:
Happy holidays!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you feel better. Whenever I start to get a cold I take DayQuil and Afrin and it usually works really well for me.
It’s a very relaxed holiday for me, just me and my husband. My parents went out of the country, the in-laws went to Boston and my sister and her family went to Dollywood. I have a hard time saying that without snickering. Dollywood. Nope can’t do it.

:wreath: I am so sorry to hear that you are getting sick. I hope you get past it soon. I am just getting past the worst allergy attack I believe I have ever had but still have a smakk cough every now and then and a few sniffles. :bigxmas: :bigxmas:

I’m so sorry! I am a big believer in orange juice, chicken soup, and those Airborne tablets. Vitamins should help. Sleep would help tremendously, but I
know there’s no time.

Zinc will help with whatever you have right now. However, zinc taste horrible no matter what flavor is mixed in with it. Hope you feel better soon, Julie!

Stop thinking about getting sick – or you will get sick. Keeping telling yourself I am healthy, I feel great. I am healthy, I feel great. I am actually starting to incorporate these mantras into my own life. Don’t say the negative to yourself — I am not getting sick — that just reinforces the idea of “sick”.
You could just be experiencing allergies. Sore throat and headache often are allergy related esp. if you’ve had the symptoms for 2 weeks but you haven’t actually gotten a cold. Ear thing could even correspond with allergies. Often I drink hot water with the juice of a lemon squeezed in it and that helps. It won’t help your immunity per se that I know of, but it will make your throat feel better and somehow I always feel like it detoxifies my system.
My husband is a firm believer in zinc and vitamin C.
Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy those deviled crabs. :santalights:

Hey Jules, I hope you do get a chance to rest up. That is the best medicince I could think of. I know that is hard when it is around this time of year. I think that tea with honey and lemon/lime is a good concoction for the throat and just to help you relax. That is the best I can do. I hope that you are able to get what you need to done so that you can relaz. Today, I am feeling good. Maybe I am getting too much sleep, but I can afford to because once school starts there it goes. Have a wonderful time during Noche Buena.
Peace and love,
Paula R.

I feel bad for you! I have been fighting a cough/cough for almost three weeks now. Doctor gave cough syrup. Had to go to Texas for a cheerleading competition so called the dr. back and he gave antibiotic which didn’t do a thing. Now I’m fighting to get through Christmas. Then I think I will crash. Who has time to get sick now?!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I feel better now.
I am recovering, still, from the flu and brohnchitis so I feel your pain. Watch the amount of Vitamin C you are taking, you can overdose on it and they are finding that the pills as oppsosed to natural isn’t as good or beneficial.
I have been living on Tylenol Cool Burst (daytime and night time) and Musinex DM (for the cough) I have allergies to a lot of over the counter drugs so it’s the best I have to off.
Oh, and Vicks. Lots of Vicks.
I am in the cleaning stage. I did most of the gorcery shopping at 1 am this morning. Went so much faster with no one there and basically us and the stockers. best time to shop.
Mom will be here at some point tonite. I finally got the tree up and somewhat decorated. The kitten has done her best to help undecorate it. :bigtree:
I still have to go and wrap presents. Which I am sure the kitten will help unwrap since I like to use bags and tissue paper. Her favorite play toys. Heather took and 8 minute video yesterday of her and one of the other cats doing nothing but destroy a bag of plastic bags. Then use the plastic bags to sled across the dining room floor. I needed that laugh!
And just in case :bigxmas:
and AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

All three of my boys have had a bad cough and this morning I woke up with a sore throat. What’s worse is that my Oldest’s ear hurt last night (and we’re on the road
). Top it off that Husband is grumpy and I am about to turn around and go home.

So sorry you’re getting sick. Have you been to the doctor?
I’m on antibiotics for an eye infection so I feel good. Any germs don’t stand a chance against what I’m taking.
Hope you feel better soon

:walksnowman: Funny you should mention health – :bigxmas: my stomach is feeling funny since last nite – almost like if you were getting over a stomach virus and it feels not quite right. Hope you feel better soon. Send us the recipe for the deviled crab cakes if it is not a secret.
I am babysitting now for my granddaughter. Made a pot of turkey soup a few days ago – it came out great – had some today.
:ccane: :decor: Love all these Christmas icons.

Julie, I am so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. My advice, don’t try to do so much & get stressed!
Something more helpful gargling with salt water is very helpful, 1/2 cup of warm water (not hot!) to 1/2 tsp. of salt. Use several times a day & just before going to bed. Getting rest is vital to your health as is taking good care of yourself.
Me, I’m not stressed! Yesterday was a marathon cooking/baking day (for me) but it is done all except for the Lemon Curd which I might make tomorrow if the urge moves me. My Christmas is today as my daughter & her guy are both scheduled to work at the hospital on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day! No holidays for those in the hospital or the emergency room. The important thing is that we are going to celebrate together & enjoy ourselves. My grandson is also working Christmas Eve day which means the 23rd made more sense. She is doing the cooking! Yea!! :santaguy:
Everyone enjoy whatever you are doing the next few days. :santalights: :ccane: If you are traveling stay safe coming & going.

See you all tomorrow! :SmallSanta: :walksnowman: :wreath:

Chinese herbal remedy: when you make the soup, add little chunks of green onion (not all of it) and fresh ginger root (not all of it). You’re then supposed to wrap yourself in a blanket and sweat it out. Personally, I can’t stand the taste or smell of ginger, but this stuff has worked for me when I’ve gotten rid of colds.

I’m sick, too. A major winter storm is predicted for tomorrow, and the kids are planning on driving up the turnpike to pick up Baseball boy’s dad and bring him back for Christmas. However, I am done with shopping. Now all I need to do is clean, make rolls for Christmas Eve Italian dinner and Christmas morning cinnamon rolls. Oh, and wrap presents. *sigh*
For the sore throat, I recommend gargling with apple cider vinegar. Vile stuff, really, but 1 part ACV to 2 parts warm water, gargle, and swallow. I’ve seen it kill strep throat. Seriously. Good luck on the cooking and have a merry Christmas!

Julie I am so with you I am sick and it something that nobody can do anything to really help it. It will be three weeks I have been having some strange things happen to be like my feet went numb and legs and pelvic area so off for several MRI’s and a spinal tap and so I got the bad news I have MS and I have been getting steriod iv’s the the last 3 days. Tomorrow is the last day for it and I will be so happy that is some nasty stuff it makes my whole body really hard and stiff, and very sick to my stomach. I hope this stuff is manageable it is horrible, I have a couple aunts that have it they are not blood related but they haven’t had this like this where they lower half of body was not useable. I am trying to stay positive but it is really hard when you can’t enough the holiday’s.
As for the cold you really need rest that is the best thing but like you said there is way to much to get done. I just had to give it all up and really not to do anything this year hopefully I will have other years I can really do it good again.
I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday and just enough the famlie’s that is what is most important. That is what I am going to try to do and try to be able to stay up to enjoy some of it.

Aww….you poor thing! I was sick two months ago with strep throat. I went to the doctor and took antibiotics to get rid of it.
When I feel like I am coming down with a cold, I immediately take a zinc tablet, an ecchnicea tablet, drink lots of orange juice, take two advil before I go to bed so I sleep better, and eat chicken noodle soup. I always add a clove of minced garlic to it and a dash of cayenne pepper. It works like a charm!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and your illness passes you by! :bigtree:
