Jungle Madness Friday
Julie Icon

Ack! I’m not done with my shopping! I’m not even CLOSE! I’m will be desperately online today paying outrageous amounts for overnight shipping in order to get my obligations filled. And since I’ll spend most of my time at Amazon, I’m giving away a $25 Amazon gift card to a lucky poster.

buying-online-tipsAnyone who posts that they are done with all their shopping, have the presents wrapped and Christmas cards out is immediately disqualified.

I’m not kidding. :ohno:

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

I’m supposed to be working part time, however, two of my coworkers had their babies early.

Then when I finally had some time off to start my shopping, do my Christmas cards and decorate our tree, I got the flu which wiped me out.

Now I’m so far behind, my daughter’s flying down on Saturday and my sons are coming home from college on Sunday.

    :bigtree: HELP!!

Hmm, my present to myself and the present to one of my cousins are wrapped and ready to go. However, I still need to sort out the rest of the gifts.
I have to make myself sit down and finish the bookmarks that I’m stitching for most of the family. I refuse to buy my grandfather’s scorched almonds until Christmas Eve (and they’re on special until Dec 26 anyway). I know what I’m getting another cousin, just haven’t gotten around to picking it up.
The final cousin – I have no clue what to get (what do you get for a child that is barely 1 month old?)

The giftcard would be fantastic though – any excuse to buy more books is always good (just need to find where I put the ‘to buy’ list)

Tree is still in storage, presents that I have a hiding next door and I need to go sort, Xmas cards are still sitting here (I think I will take them to work and work on them there).

The flu kept me down for over 2 weeks and I still have to clean. Although I did get the dusty, greasy ceiling fan in the kitchen clean. Does that count?

omg…what a way to wake up in the morning…it’s 6:22am here and 10 degrees outside…and instead of being out there warming up my car I’m sitting in here laughing my ass off. (well…maybe it’s more like a couple of inches off but let’s not quibble). That being said….doesn’t any of these places do free shipping??? I know I’ve seen it around here the past week….and if not….Gift Certificates are great ….and you can buy them off the square cube at the grocery store (ours has about 100 different gift certificates on it in town) and for .44 cents you can just mail it out in a card and save the expensive shipping. Which in turn leaves you with enough money to buy extra gift certificates… Just a thought from the moose :reindeer:

I still have some things like the stocking stuffers to get for the family…but I have a terrible feeling when I finally make myself sit down to wrap (not a huge fan of the wrapping) that I will find myself out shopping and trying to even out the gifts. I still have to buy for the brother in law, my boss, one of my friends, and did I mention that I despise wrapping.

Good luck with the shopping and I hope that it goes pretty painlessly.

I wish I didnt work so I could put a dent in my big tbr.

It won’t work for you this year, but possibly you could use this next yearbut I request that all the family & friends I buy for create online wishlists (thru Amazon or thethingsiwant.com). It cuts down so much on the searching or not knowing if a person would like the gift you bought them. We mostly order our gifts online too (thru Amazon or other websites).

I bake some cookies a few weeks ago and made extra dough that I froze so just need to defrost and bake. Finally the wrapping will get done sometime late x-mas eve like every year. Maybe I’ll do it today instead and get some sleep x-mas eve :zzzzz:

Took off work today to finish up my shopping and wrapping. But first I’m babysitting for a couple of hours for a friend. Also have to deliver a couple of rum cakes today. I think I’ll need another day off just to recover from today. Of course that won’t happen this weekend, as we have my dad’s side of the family’s Christmas gathering tomorrow. Should be lots of fun, but no real rest for me this weekend.

Julie, I feel for you. For some reason, I’ve always been a last minute shopper – since I had kids, that is. I used to be one of those people who’d get gifts in August and hide them away until Christmas, but that all changed when I had children. I live a lot more in the moment these days. This year, I am making gifts for Christmas and I am nowhere near done. Oh, well, there’s still some time left…

So everything I’ve done is online. I squeaked by w/ Amazon’s free shipping on presents to friends, but still have to find some stocking stuffers for my husband (he loves to cook and our tiny town has NOTHING that will work).

Our tree is half decorated, and I’ve been hearing about it from my sons every single day.

I have managed to get about half of my cookie trays baked and delivered, but am having trouble getting motivated to do the rest. I really don’t like that Christmas is on a Friday this year. I need that extra weekend. :snowfight:

Yikes, Christmas always sneaks up on me. I have my presents taken care of for out of towners but for my husband and in-laws, no way. I still don’t know what I’m going to do about them. I live out in the sticks far way from any malls so I think I might make them something, like bake some cookies or cakes. Everyone loves cookies right, besides they already have everything. I also need to mail out my Christmas cards today, I’m so bad everyone has sent me one, and I’ve only sent out a few so far.

I’ve figures out what to buy the 3yo and the 6yo boys, but the 5yo girl is the problem. She wants a Zhu Zhu pet and I refuse to pay 3 times the price for one. So that is what I’m still looking for!

And that is final!!! I still don’t know what to get everyone, so I will probably pick something up Christmas Eve or something. Maybe if I had kids and a family close by, I would go nuts, but I don’t so I am safe. Don’t count me in for the contest, just wanted to show my love and support. BTW, I got a copy of Domino Effect from Thriftbooks.com. I have been searching for that one for a while. Happy shopping!

I have 3 presents bought and probably like 25 more to go. Talk about a slacker. Every year I say I will have all my shopping done by November and every year it’s the same. I am one of the last minute shoppers and wrappers.

Hope all have a wonderful Christmas! :bigxmas:

I wish I could say that I was done. I still have nothing for my kids, two girls ages 20 and 18. I have no idea what to get them – and when I ask – they tell me “don’t worry about it mom”. So now there is nothing for them. HELP – with only a few days left, and me working full-time and TONS of baking to do this weekend, it looks like I will be out at the mall last minute and they will be getting American Express gift cards.

Good luck, Julie! I think a lot of us will be shopping and baking like mad this weekend. Christmas totally snuck up on me. We lost my MIL right after Thanksgiving and I have no spirit this year. No tree, no cards sent out…I haven’t wrapped a single gift yet.

I plan to put on some Christmas tunes this afternoon and get down to business. I’m shooting for the basics only. Our Norfolk Island Pine will get lights and ornaments and the presents will get wrapped. Then after that if I feel like it, I’ll bake a few treats and see how it goes. The most important thing is my family, so as long as they’re happy, I’m happy.

    Happy holidays, everyone!

I shop all year round, when I see things that suit a person, especially on sale, I buy them. Then in November I take stock and see where I stand (usually I have a pretty good picture), and fill in the gaps. So shopping is all done.

But… I have not done any wrapping and no cards done yet either, eek! Still have the house to clean this weekend in between Christmas parties and shopping for Christmas dinner. Oh well, it always seems to get done.

I have all the gifts bought but…none are wrapped!!! And it seems like I hvae no time to wrap anything or send out all my Christmas cards since I keep on going out all the time to visit and see people during the holidays! I pray that I get everything wrapped before Christmas!

:fainting: I am late…ack!!! Can i still play?!?

I have not even started my christmas shopping! Not my fault, I’m just waiting for our only car to get out of the shop so I can go shopping. Monday we are promised it will be done. Maybe hubby while believe me when I say the car needs a tune up next time?!?

I have four kids to go buy presents for and they all want an mp3 player..not IPOD..thank GOD!!!! :decor:

Well, I am feeling the pressure and I am freeting that there will be no mp3 players for me to buy or anything else that they want. I can’t order things online like you can in the States!!!! ACK!!!

Please wish me luck and MERRY CHRISTMAS!! :bigxmas:

:santalights: Finished decorating and even most of the shopping. Wrapping? I keep putting that off. Easily my least favorite part of the holidays. :present: :groan:

I don’t think I’ll be able to wrap all the presents we bought until Christmas Eve after our boys go to sleep :) I’m not done shopping yet but I am avoiding the crowds and taking advantage of free shipping offers :) Thanks for the giveaway…this could really come in handy.

I’m baking for friends and family, it is so much easier than shopping for people.
