Pimp Your Book Saturday
Julie Icon

The Plotmonkeys want to drive some business in book buying, so we’re hosting a “pimp your book” Saturday here in the Jungle!

Instead of our usual single Saturday Craft Series guest blogger…we’re inviting authors who have books out this month or very recently–books still available in stores that would be GREAT gifts to buy for friends and family–to pimp your book in the comments thread and for readers to take notes!

we buy booksReaders, as we’re mostly women, we’re notorious for spending all our hard-earned cash this month buying gifts for other people and not asking for anything for ourselves. Here’s your chance to make your own Wish List of books for your loved ones to stuff in your stockings!

Authors: please keep your pimp to 140 characters or less (no, we’re not going to count…we’re just trying to save space…so let’s do it Twitter style!) Books should be available in brick-and-mortar stores and mass market retailers as this is how the jungle readers primarily buy their books.

Readers: Feel free to pimp the book of an author you’ve read if the book is recent or readily available in a store where most of us can shop. And take notes! We’re all hoping to find some gems here!

So let’s pimp!

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

Interesting that readers are mostly women. I wouldn’t say that it obvious for such kind of books

I’m a reader so I’ll pimp one of the best book I’ve read this year.
The book is Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols (published last march).
It’s the story of Meg, who just hates her life and the small town she lives in. She keeps doing crazy (mostly illegal) things that endangeres herself. John, on the other hand, enrolled in the police departement just after graduating from high school and has no patience for the youth rebellious attitude. Some event ties those two together and their journey toward understanding (and well LOVE of course) is pure pleasure to read.
I can’t wait to read this author’s new drama, soon I hope ;-)

Although I did buy Dresden Files book 5 on audio last night- once I got itunes and Overdrive Media to cooperate- It is James Marsters reading them after all. I. Must. Own. All. Of. Them.

Thanks for allowing us to “pimp” our books! I have one coming out next Thursday from Siren Publishing called Wild Wyoming Nights. It’s the first in a series and if you love hot cowboys and feisty heroines, you’ll love this! Its’ available for pre-order now and download on 12/3/09. http://www.bookstrand.com/product-wildwyomingnights-15985-192.html

The book is about a young woman who loses her husband in the twin towers attack on 9/11. She wants to move on after over a year without him and moves to Wyoming where she runs into her sexy rancher neighbor, Chase Wilder. Chase also lost his wife to a tragic car accident a few years prior.

Category wise — western contemporary, paranormal, cowboys, and hot sex.

This the first in the series with the subsequent pieces coming out in February, March and April.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks again for having us!

    What a fun idea!!

I got nuttin’, personally. But, as a reader, I’m totally hooked on Suzanne Brockmann’s Troubleshooter series. Probably almost everyone else has heard of them, but I was late getting to the party. I’m now reading through the series like a crazy person. I’m up to the 12th or 13th in the series and kind of hate to get caught up because then I’ll have to wait like everyone else for the “next one.” :D Which is a character I’ve fallen in love with and am already feeling a little antsy to get my hands on. (pun intended)!!

    Have a great weekend, everyone!!

I’ll (shamelessly) pimp my book! THE SPLENDOR FALLS is an old fashioned Gothic Romance with a modern heroine and a different setting. When rising ballet star Sylvie Davis suffers a career ending injury at the tender age of 18, she’s sent to stay with her late father’s family in a ramshackle antebellum estate, where strange (and eerie) forces are at work. She doesn’t know if she can trust the town’s too charming golden boy, or the stranger she feels like she’s met before, or even her own senses.

Kirkus Reviews called it “Chilling and Satisfying” and full of “the authors trademark wit and zip.” *blush*bow*simper

Great for teens (especially those who love a big, fat paranormal romance of the sparkly kind) and anyone who loves a Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt sort of read.

I love this! We should pimp books more often- lots of ideas to be shared and I’m always on the lookout for more books.

Since I’ve been doing an online book club blog I have been focused primarily on vampire romance. Dark Stranger by Susan Sizemore was fantastic and Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill was also a great read. My next vampire book is by a new author, Clare Willis. Good stuff.

I did break away from my fang fiction and read the latest J.D. Robb, the latest Nora Roberts, and an anthology titled The Lost (Robb, Gaffney, Blayney, and Langan). I won’t even start on my TBR pile- let’s just say that t has lots of romance. :snowguy: The snow guy is from my daughter:)

Hey, Julie–I don’t have a Blaze to plug, but I do have a book coming out in December from Harlequin Intrigue, BEAUTY AND THE BADGE. It’s another Kansas City cop story in my Precinct: Brotherhood of the Badge miniseries, featuring reader favorite Det. Kevin Grove. And, as you can tell from the title, it’s a Beauty & the Beast love story.

To recommend? I just finished Gena Showalter’s Harlequin TEEN book, INTERTWINED. It was a lot of fun–and dare I say it with the NEW MOON movie coming out? I liked it better than the TWILIGHT series. :dart:

Wow, books I had not heard about! As if I really need more ideas, more authors. That said, I do like learning about new books & authors. 8)

Right now I am reading Roxanne St. Claire’s Make Her Pay the most recent of her Bullet Catcher books. I recently bought it at Border’s where I also found Pitch Black by Leslie Parrish. On my Wish List is Can’t Stand The Heat by Louisa Edwards, Black at Heart by Leslie Parrish & new to the list Wild Wyoming Nights by Sandy Sullivan. If you love Nora her current Bed of Roses, Book 2 in the Bridal Quartet series, was a romantic feast, loved it! I’ve read all the current Plotmonkey releases or have them.

    Commencing pimpage!

The Moonlight Mistress by Victoria Janssen, an erotic novel, December 2009 from Harlequin Spice:

As World War One begins, English chemist Lucilla Osbourne finds herself trapped on German soil. She and a French scientist, Pascal Fournier, escape and share a brief, intense affair.

They are reunited as Pascal investigates rumors of werewolves and the rogue scientist who abducts and tortures them.

Meanwhile, a group of soldiers, including Lucilla’s brother, deal with forbidden relationships, little knowing that one of their own is also a werewolf.

I personally don’t have a new book out until July…so I will pimp a book I cannot say enough good things about…

CATCHING FIRE by Suzanne Collins, the follow up to the brilliant and amazing HUNGER GAMES. It’s YA. And there is a bittersweet and heart wrenching romance throughout.

This book blew me away. It is beautiful and terrifying and brilliant and evocative.

    What a great idea, guys!

I have a 3 book Harlequin Superromance series out right now that would, now that I think about it, make a great Christmas present.

    FIRST COMES TWINS, August
    NEXT COMES LOVE, October
    THEN COMES BABY, December

A mixture of romance and romantic suspense, they’re all set on a fictitious Lake Superior island that’s similar but a bit more rustic than Mackinac Island in Michigan, of Grand Hotel fame. And they’re getting some nice reviews!

    Happy Thanksgiving weekend, all!

    Hi Plotmonkeys!
Great to be here again, if only for a flying visit :)

I have a December release, MARRIAGE: FOR BUSINESS OR PLEASURE? (Harlequin Modern Heat).

Italian bad boy hero made good, Aussie gal running from her past, hook up in cosmopolitan Noosa, get married for convenience, and still burn up the sheets!
With loads more in between :winking:

First, I want to thank all the Plot Monkeys for letting me pimp RION. And oh yes, trust me if you see his face you’ll be thinking I’m not charging enough. :bananaangel: Seriously, RION begins in London, and the hero is desperate to go home–but not until the heroine, a sexy dragon shifter agrees to help him save his people. Yes, some of the people in my book can morph from humans into dragons. It’s part of the legend King Arthur left.
    LUCAN was out in Sept.
RION will be out on Tuesday.
    JORDAN March 2010.

My TBR list just had so many books added to it. I picked up 2 books by Julie Kenner this weekend. I bought Tainted and Torn, which are books 1 & 2 in the Blood Lily Chronicles. I’ve loved all of Julie’s other books and can’t wait to read these.

      Fedora,

IA w/you about Sarah’s books. After a determined search, I found all of her backlist, &, from that point after, when they become available, always buy her new releases. I love her Blazes for many reasons, one of which is that there aren’t “any bad guys” stalking the heroine. Just fun & clever Contemps.

Have I already told you guys what a great idea this is – and thanks!
My booksnigning was a sellout! One lady bought 14 copies of COLORADO CHRISTMAS and another brought me roses :flowers4you: – is that nice or what?
    Americans are so thoughtful. :flag:
So thanks for all the support and thank you Cher and Ellen for also recommending my debut novel.
I’ve been listing books I wanna read now after hearing recommendations on pimp my book.
I better go buy them at Borders since they were so supportive of me.

    Hey, Plotmonkeys!

Thanks for the opportunity to pimp my book!

If you enjoy dark fantasy, you may want to check out Blood Soup, published by Eternal Press in Sept. It was a contest winner prior to being picked up by EP and has received good reviews. My favorite:

Filled with murder, mystery, and very dire consequences, this is a fast paced Novella with vivid portrayal of events and characters, pulling you into this harsh world the author has created and no doubt leaving her with new fans eagerly awaiting her next book.

Read an excerpt and by the e-version here. Pick up a hard copy at Amazon.com.

I’m late to the party! I wish my book was out currently, but it doesn’t see the light of a bookstore until April, 2010. I could pimp all the Plotmonkey books–they are awesome!–but we all know that. Instead, I’ll mention two books by Jennifer Lyon: BLOOD MAGIC and SOUL MAGIC. Witches and the men sworn to protect them. Wonderful world building, sassy heroines, and sexy heroes. What’s not to love?!!

Thanks for the opportunity, Julie! Back to edits and revisions for me.

Wow, so many books to add to my wishlist.
I would love to be able to recommend books that I’ve read that came out recently but books take so long to show up in New Zealand stores (if they come out here at all) that there’s nothing recent that I am sure would still be in the US stores.
I definitely think this is a great idea though – especially since it helps with wishlists and gift ideas.
