Online (and off) Surveys (Updated with a Favor!)
Carly Icon

I’m a good sport. I’m also a procrastinator. So if a company I like/use/wear/trust sends me an online survey, often I’ll complete it. I honestly don’t mind. And if they offer a coupon as thanks, even better. But even if they don’t, I’m pretty easy. Except now I’m rethinking my view because lately I feel taken advantage of. Example. Borders hands me a receipt and says, call this number and answer a few questions and next purchase is 15% off. And the call takes twenty minutes (or feels like it). So NOT worth 15% off, especially a $7.99 book. My time is valuable! :drama: Or Ugg Australia (the ONLY shoes I wear in the winter for comfort on my poor, always hurting feet) sent me an online survey with free shipping as the thank you. I knew I wasn’t going to be ordering. But I’m a hugely loyal customer. ENDLESS survey. I feel used. :wtf:

I don’t know. I understand companies need to know how a product is received by the public, but can they please think of the time and effort it takes people to check off those endless boxes?? :fryingpan:

So how about you? Anyone agree with me? Do you ever answer surveys or do you just delete or ignore?
***
And now a huge favor for an animal in need! I’m reposting this from a Wheaten Loop I am on (with permission of course!) and all I’m asking you to do is click and vote! Here’s the story:
“A few months ago, in my condo complex, a dog named Riley got out of her owner’s apartment. Frightened, she ran away and was missing for several weeks. That happened around the time someone posted on the L about the service you could call to have phone calls plastered in your area about your missing dog. I don’t think it helped with Riley, but she was recovered. She is a beautiful dog but she lost one front leg through this mishap b/c it was in such bad shape when they finally got her. She was a frisbee loving dog but she can’t do it anymore because of the stress on the front leg. Riley needs a harness for a three legged dog and her owner really can’t afford to get it right now b/c the vet bills were so extreme in just saving Riley’s life.. Anyway – if she won this contest it would surely help. The link below goes straight to her picture.

Vote for Riley. Feel free to spread the word and get people to vote for this wonderful three legged dog :)! Thanks!!

Click on the link and then give Riley a 10 of course. :)”

I’m like you Carly, and like to give back good feedback to a business I’ve been happy with, but I won’t participate in a time-consuming survey. I believe if the company sticks with the basics, the whole process shouldn’t take more than about 5 minutes.

I eat at Baja Fresh about 1-2 times a month, and on the coupon is a survey for $2 off the next purchase. You can either call or go online. I usually call. Whole process is quick and efficient, I get my survey code and I then get $2 off the next time I vist. They stick to the important questions – service, cleanliness, quality of food, etc. And the bonus is the coupon code. They do it right, imho.

a hint about the Border’s survey- usually if you call after 7pm or so, you get the short survey. Or so I have been told by customers. The way they repeat the scale for every question is more annoying than anything.

I do them depending- when I start an online one, and I am signed up for a couple of places that do them on a regular basis, if they start asking the same questions but it a different order or by changing the words around- I click out. I don’t have the time.

Why they can’t just be straightforward, ask it once and be done- I have no idea.

I love getting them from Petsmart. Those I do. I spend a lot there and every few bucks helps.

I never remember to do the Borders ones. I wish Borders and B&N would just electronically attach all their coupons to the membership card. Would make my life much easier as I don’t always remember to print out the coupons. I do agree that the never-ending survey is never worth the discount or free shipping.

Liza, worse than not remembering to print is me – remembering to print but forgetting to take the coupon out of the printer before I leave the house! :*&#!:

I’m usually a sucker for surveys…. but mine are usually better than the ones you get evidently…I always get those 2.00 off at the Hallmark store (and everyone who knows me knows I keep Hallmark Ornaments in Business because I’ve collected them for 30+ years.) but my favorite ones are for Maurices Clothing Stores. Amber and Autumn live in their clothes and they constantly have 5.00 off ones come on the receipts… I never fail to do them because then I let the girls have them and they go hit the clearance rank. Autumn only wears Silver Jeans which they carry and are at least 80.00 but when they hit the clearance rank with an additional % off Autumn uses her 5.00 on top and gets them for about 12.00 every single time… So they are worth it. I also do the ones for Nielsen Ratings and that is a time consuming pain in the ass if I do say so…not worth the 20.00 they send me to do it but her….I like knowing my opinion counts and it’s sorta like Elections… You can’t complain about how things are if you don’t take the time to stop and vote and make your OPINION COUNT!

I always do the surveys. Every little bit helps…now if I could only remember to bring the coupon in when I do them. LOL.
I’ll remember that when I do the Borders surveys. I hardly ever shop there anymore.

Not many surveys for me. My time is too valuable.

Formerly, I always completed the Borders one, since I shopped there so much, but, now, the Express in Burbank closed, & the store in Glendale has the Romances upstairs & in the back. (Can’t tell you how annoyed this makes me that mags & coffee are on the lst floor, but, Romances, that are 60% of the PB buys, are relegated to upstairs & at the back, the parking is iffy & expensive, &, because of all this, I just don’t go there much.) [Before you ask, yes, I did tell the manager my thoughts about the placement of the books for Romance buyers, but, frankly, he acted as if he didn't really care .]

Recently, I have tried using its online coupons & picking the book up at the store afterwards, w/no shipping cost (I P/U at Sherman Oaks, not Glendale). This has worked OK, especially, for the more expensive books–i.e., I’ve already pre-ordered NR’s 3rd “Wedding Quartet” TP book (TB released 4/10), saving almost $8. Now, if on the release date, if I don’t receive “the P/U call”, I’ll be most annoyed, so, we’ll see how I feel after this transaction completes.

I feel like the marketing department or whoever writes these surveys feels like the have to write long surveys to justified getting paid to write them. Who is going to read all those answers and what can they possibly tell them?

I don’t mind a simple question or two but I feel used when it goes on longer than the it takes to use the product.

Awww! That poor, sweet little thing. I voted. Reading stuff like that always tears me up.

Surveys are a royal pain. I’m sorry. However, if I’m on-line snoodling around and have five minutes to spare I sometimes do a survey. The ones I really hate are the people standing around in the mall holding clipboards doing surveys on candy of all things. :groan:

    Better get back to cleaning,

I voted, hope it helps. Poor baby. :dogrun: :praying: Hope Riley will get a harness soon. Let us know.

:P ilgrim: Just because I haven’t used this one!! :fallleaf:

There are a couple of surveys I signed on for, Tell Harlequin and Harris Poll Survey’s. Sometimes Harris sends them to often & I just ignore them, hit delete!! Tell Harlequin I always answer because I want them to keep publishing good books. :applause: When I get coupons from Target, Border’s or any other store I rarely do those as by the time I get home I just plain forget! My humble opinion is that many surveys are too long and do not have an answer I can agree with. Sometimes you can only give one answer when you should be able to give multiple answers. Many years ago I got burned on a telephone survey that was taking way to much of my time and ended hanging up before it was finished I was really ticked as I was told about 10 minutes & was still on the phone answering questions a half an hour later. :groan: :impatient:

Enjoy the rest of the day where ever you are and what ever you are doing. :waving:

I do surveys but if they are too long I’ve been known to “lose my connection”….”signal failed”….”you’re breaking up”… :sorry:

I do online surveys – but I too don’t like doing them if the ‘reward’ is not appropriate for the time it took. We don’t get surveys for Borders here in New Zealand – but we do get coupons. They used to be really useful for me, but now its rare for me to be able to use them – and when there is one I can use, it doesn’t get used because they seem to have stopped buying in romance. :*&#!: And I’ve voted for Riley.

I do a lot of online surveys and occasionally some phone ones. I get the $2 Hallmark one every so often and sometimes KMart, or Rite Aid. My favorites are for E-rewards and My Points. Points can be cashed in for various giftcards.
I have another site that gives me Amazon gift cards which works out well because I love getting free books. I do try to do surveys when I have time, I opt out if it is a long survey and I don’t have enough time.

    Good question, Carly.

    Ellen :)
