Okay I have a lot of things to tell you, all related to different things so here goes:
DON’T TRAVEL WITH CARLY RETURNS
Yes you read right. What happened this time? Miley Cyrus Concert at Prudential Center in Newark NJ. 7 PM concert and hour from home. Who’s traveling? Myself, a friend (who drove) her older daughter and mine (16/17 yrs old); my youngest and her friend (13 yrs) and my friend’s twin boys. Yep BOYS. 11 years old. Ten minutes from the house, when it’s too late to take a different route, we hit traffic. Stopped, unable to continue, traffic. 3 HRS and 30 minutes to get to the concert. Almost 3 hours of it spent ten minutes from home. Missed opening act (Metro Station); missed first five songs or Miley. By the time we got there it felt like it was time to go home. I’ll spare you the little in between details about the kids, the arguing over seats in the truck, etc. I’ll leave it to your vivid imaginations.
RomCon Featured Author
I know we all have a lot of things to do and it’s hard to decide where to spend our money. I get it!! Still, I had to let you know that I was asked to come to Rom Con, the first of their Reader/Author Conferences in August 2010. Yes, it’s two weeks before RWA National for those of you who travel to that; yes it costs money – $350 – a lot of money; But it looks to me like you’ll get a lot in return. It’s in Denver, CO at the Denver Int’l Airport Crowne Plaza.
I’ll be signing books AND hosting a Reader/Author event with two FANTABULOUS Authors – Brenda Novak and Susan Mallery which makes ME a very lucky author indeed! Plus there are so many other events! Check out the link, review the FAQ and see what you think!
INTERVIEW WITH CARLY
When I was at RWA National in July last summer, I did an interview with Sue Grimshaw from Borders Books. It’s finally up and I thought I’d share. I honestly don’t understand why I always look like I’m scowling when I do interviews. I did my best to SMILE!
Carly\'s Borders Interview I wanted to insert the video here, but I couldn’t figure out how! So please come back after you watch!
Anyway, that’s what’s new with me, this and that, as it were! Hope you’re all having a great day!

Carly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

So sorry to hear about the crazy traffic getting to Miley Cyrus. Hope everyone wasn’t too disappointed. Been there, and it sucks. Last time I went to a concert (Nickelback in March) we left super early to make sure there wasn’t any problem getting there and ate near the arena. It worked out great, especially when you’ve got some distance to go.
I plan on going to RWA next year in Nashville. Never been, so that, along with the Lori Foster/Dianne Castell event will be my splurges. Hope the Denver event is a lot of fun!
Hope you all had fun at the concert, even if you got there late. I took my nieces to see Miley a few years ago and The Jonas Brothers were the opening act(her first tour doing the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus tour). It was the day after Thanksgiving and my sister and I had been up since 3 then I drove the girls back to Nashville for the concert. I felt like I hadn’t slept in forever by the end of the show, but my nieces loved every minute of it and still talk about how much fun we had.
I’ll be at RWA, especially since it’s here in Nashville next year. Will have to look into my budget to see if I can do any other conferences next year.
I always leave for concerts early, bring a book and sit somewhere and read. Maybe have dinner and a beer or two since I am not going anywhere for awhile. The last one was the Keith Urban concert and I was glad I had as it was a total sell out down city. I always get to SPAC early for shows, grab a sub on the way and sit and eat and read while waiting for the gates to open, esp when I have lawn seats.
I should have brought you with me when I drove cross country. I am sure it would have been an adventure!
We left at 5 for a 7 concert that was an hour away. Go figure, LOL! I’ll follow your lead next time!
Bummer on the late arrival! That reminds me of a missed Ted Nugent concert when I was in High School. I had my VW Bug loaded with 6 people (no seat belts back then) and headed to the concert. The car was so weighed down that the tires were rubbing and we had a flat!
Denver in August sounds very appealing when it will be about 110 here in Dallas.

Carly, I love your travel stories. Too funny! Sorry you were late to Miley Cyrus. I can’t imagine that drive into Newark.
I saw your interview. Great job! I don’t think you were scowling. You’re proud and serious about your work that’s all. And you smiled too. No worries.
I was on the RomCon site yesterday and saw the announcement where you’re going to be in Denver next year! Very cool. Even living here in Denver I don’t know if I would be able to attend. It depends on how healthy our budget is next year. But I’d love to see you.
Have a great day,
Cher
I am sorry, Carly.
Nothing new here (I am out of town this weekend with my MOMS club), so I am trying to get a lot of stuff done before then. It’s so funny, I just got two emails from eharlequin saying “you have not been a good customer” (okay, I just placed an order about a week ago and one on the 31st…they had too good of deals!). Hey, if they want to give me $5 off or a free tote (two different offers), I’m in! Yes, books are my crack, but my TBR pile is falling over! I need some good suggestions on “Christmas themed’ books. LOL. I love reading those this time of year! Anyone?
So glad it just isn’t me that got that email. I had just placed an order last week too and wondered why they didn’t think I was a good customer anymore.
Liza…I even checked to make sure that I had placed an order (yep) so I don’t know why I got the “we’ve missed you” email. I guess it had been 12 days…LOL.
Carly, I
to your travel stories. I’m not
Really.
RWA is the last week of July. I think I’d rather be in Denver that time of year, too! However, as chair of the National Readers Choice Awards (we need more Plotmonkey enries, btw!), I’ll definitely be at Nashville to hand out the awards.
Hi Carly, sorry you got to the concert late, but hope you all had a good time anyway. The reference about the kids reminded me of when we traveled with my girls when they were small!! Oh my! My daughters are as different as night & day being cooped up in a car was an experience!! The one thing that sticks out in my mind most of all “Mom, she’s looking at me”!!!! So glad those days are over. I loved, loved it when the youngest fell asleep!! :givethanks:
I’ll check out the video interview later, I have to leave for an appointment.
Everyone have a great day. :fallleaf: :turkkey:
“Mom she’s looking at me”. that’s PRICELESS!
I just got yet another rejection from another agent today.
At least she didn’t say my writing sucked.
I’ve had those before.
I’m wondering if I should shelve this book all together, shop it later when I’m rich and famous and on the NYT list.
I could try writing literary. At least then I wouldn’t have to worry about having a plot or character growth.
Oh, well, that’s the breaks. Poor Cher, boo hoo.
Leslie, how was the booksigning at Turn the Page?
Cher :fallleaf:
Hugs, C her. I’m so sorry! Hang in there …. And here’s something to wallow in. Eat Cake!
(sorry it has a candle but it still looks yummy to me!)
Thanks, Carly. I would love some cake, maybe a scoop of ice cream and whipped cream on top with a side of double-chocolate chip cookies and wash it down with a thick, rich, chocolate fudge milk shake. Yeah. That should do it.
Cher
any winner from Book junkies blog
If you mean Romance Junkies winner, it was –
Kathleen O’Donnell from Canada
My husband thinks I should forget romance, genre fiction, …:blahblah: and do something where I’m not competing for attention. Whatever the :*&#!: that is. For sure, it can’t have anything to do with writing.
Cher
Carly your interview is great! Your not scowling.
Sorry you missed Miley. Was it raining in NY? Because I am sure that played a role in the traffic. Its still raining here in MD. I live on the Chesapeake Bay and I feel like its a hurricane with the wind noise. lol.
Lots of good news, except for the traffic problems you all encountered!
The book signing sounds like it will be a great event!
Pat Cochran
LMAO Karen!
In Sept 08 we went to see Rascal Flats and Taylor Swift an hour and 15 minutes from our house down in CT. (Autumn won them on the radio station and gave them to me and Dickie because I’m the huge Rascal Flats and Taylor Swift fan from before they were huge…lol) Anyway….first hour was great….the last leg that should have been 15 minutes because we were on the off ramp and could see the venue from there? OMFG…. took us over 3 hours to get from that off ramp to the venue….Don’t know what the cops were doing because from where we were sitting they were doing absolutely nothing… We finally get in there and they have cops and ambulances everywhere arresting people for disorderly conduct (drunk) and taking people away for alchohol poisioning. Condoms being given out for free even…Then we get to our ticket area (outdoor lawn with blankets kinda thing) and realize why the free condoms…(don’t think it’s why they gave em out but it’s the truth) We saw people having sex up against the friggin fence while people sat on blankets next to them…then some jerks were peeing where they stood and let it fun down the grass to where others were sitting….was so glad Autumn didn’t come…and wished I hadn’t… LOL.
comment to your scowling….I’ve met you I don’t know how many times and I’ve never seen you scowl…. must be either a figment of your imagination, you hate interviews, or you just love me and never have had a reason to scowl at me….LMAO…I’m opting for you loving me…
