Minty Fresh
Julie Icon

I never quite understood how some people don’t like the taste of mint. I mean…some of the best things in life are made with mint. Mojitos, for instance. Peppermint Patties. Mojitos. Toothpaste. Mojitos. Andes Candies. Mojitos. :eyebrow:

I grew mint once. I’d been warned that it overtakes gardens, so I planted it in a planter…and it was invasive. Tried to get into the other pot with my basil, sneaky devil. But I had a nice batch that year. My grandmother used to grow mint in her garden and it was everywhere. I love that smell!

MetroMintRecently, I made a wonderful discovery of another mint-based product. It’s called MetroMint water. Have you tried it? If you like mint, get thee to a grocery store and pick some up! I buy mine at my local Sweetbay, where it is kept in the gourmet/organic section of the store, probably because it’s $1.89 a bottle. I don’t indulge often, but I buy a couple every week and try to make them last. That doesn’t work so much.

I like things that are fresh tasting. You’ve already heard here on this blog how much I love lemons. (Which may explain my predilection for mojitos…they have mint AND lime AND sugar AND rum…I mean, honestly…what’s NOT to love?)

Metromint drinks have no calories and no sweeteners. It’s water and a slight kick of mint. Not too strong…much less intense than the gum I’m chewing right now. Some flavors also have added the “essence” of other things like lemon, orange (which is the one I’m drinking right now) and … wait for it … chocolate! Yes, the chocolate one is divine. It’s a hint of cocoa flavor that you can smell and just barely taste…but it’s a wonderful subtle taste that satisfies that craving.

So…are you one of those people who loves mint or hates it? And if you love it…what’s your favorite mint-flavored concoction? If you hate it…why? I’m trying to understand. My daughter hates mint. Her toothpaste is bubblegum flavored. She eats one kind of Christmas mint and that’s it. Strange child.

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold nearly thirty books to three publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her husband, daughter, spoiled dachshund, enormous guinea pig and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

Love mint. My parents used to grow it, so our iced tea always had fresh mint in it. I tried Metromint water once before and it was so strong I could feel it burning my esophogus and stomach. :onfire: Maybe they’ve changed the formula since then to tone it down a little. It was a couple of years ago and they only had the one flavor then.

Iced tea and mint is amazing…especially sweet tea. Yummo! And mint in lemonade! Awesome!

It’s definitely not strong now, especially the flavored ones. You should try it again and see what you think.

I do like mint, especially fresh from the garden to chew on (great for upset tummies), but oddly, I don’t like chocolate and mint together at all. Blech.

That mint-flavoured water sounds tasty, but I’ve not seen it here in Ontario grocery stores. Maybe it hasn’t made it to Canada yet or maybe I just haven’t looked hard enough. I’ll have to keep my eye out when I’m shopping. I see the sweetened flavoured waters, but I don’t want sugar or chemicals.

This is perfect for you…no sugar, no chemicals. Water, mint and (flavor) essence are listed as ingredients. Check the organic/gourmet section. That’s where my store keeps it.

I love me some mint choco chip ice cream! Turkey Hill makes the best. I HATE “chips” of chocolate in my ice cream and Turkey Hill’s has slaved chocolate in it so it melts away with the ice cream in your mouth. No chewing necessary so chocolate doesn’t embed its self into my teeth, which I just hate!

We also throw some mint leaves in our tea. Love me some mint iced tea!

    I like mint. :)

P.S. The post office is closed today. Don’t be like me and get there wondering WTF is going on! I have a package to mail! o.O Apparently it’s Veteran’s Day….which I totally knew about.

Jessica, Breyer’s is my absolute favorite mint-chocolate chip because a) the mint is not green and b) the chocolate is dark. I love it. I’ve never heard of this Turkey Hill, but I’ll look for it…might it be local or regional?

Happy Veteran’s Day everyone!!! I totally forgot. In fact, my daughter (the homeschooled one) wanted to know why she didn’t have the day off. The answer: Mommy doesn’t go anywhere anymore, so she had no idea what day it is!

This made me laugh. I am ‘one of those people.” I HATE mint. Can’t stand anything minty, like gum, toothpaste, mojitos. Blech. Just the smell of mint chocolate chip, like when the scooper accidentally touches my ice cream after scooping it for my husband. I’ll admit I don’t mind wintergreen lifesavers…but then I’ve been told that’s not ‘real’ mint. http://www.plotmonkeys.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/love-flowerforyou2.gif

OMG Andes mints! And mint chocolate chip anything! Ya know, maybe I should plant mint and let it take over my backyard. I wonder if Newfoundlands like mint….

And now I’m craving mojitos. Or margaritas. And Cuban food. Julie, I get to go to the Columbia for lunch this week. I’ve been craving their 1905 salad like whoah!

And now I want some Bailey’s Irish cream to go in my coffee…. :coffee:

I have tried the Metromint. I used to have a ton of coupons for it. My husband gave me a lecture on how I shouldn’t buy it (I only bought two, I think) because it was so expensive. I liked it, though.

Coupons would be the only way to buy it because it is expensive…I admit it. But I have so much trouble drinking my required amount of water every day, without sweeteners, this is a nice change. It’s worth it–to me. I’d rather pay $1.89 for a water than $4.99 for a coffee!

I like mint in iced tea, toothpaste. I used to love it in Thin Mint girl scout cookies and peppermint patties but can’t eat that stuff anymore. I grew some once and it literally took over my world. Yikes! Talk about invasive. Geesh!

I don’t think I would like it in water because I like my water plain. I don’t drink so wouldn’t know about mojitos.

Okay, now for the big question: What do our Plotmonkeys think about Harlequin’s new e-book only Carina publisher? Enquiring minds want to know.

not all mints are invasive..but yeah…I tend to stay away from them because I don’t want them invading my garden….I’m an avid gardener who somehow manages to get Lady Slippers and Jack in the Pulpits to go crazy in my garden….But if we are talking mint plants??? I do make sure I put Lemon Mint in my garden every spring.. for no other reason then that I love to walk by and rub my bare feet on it and have my feet smell nice and lemony….lol
