Pain and Misery
Carly Icon

Is there any worse insult for a New York Mets fan than this 2009 Philadelphia Phillips- New York Yankees World Series? I mean if it isn’t enough that the Mets have imploded the last few years and succumbed to injuries early this year, we have to cope with Pedro Martinez pitching for Philadelphia. :yuk:

If you understand baseball, then all I need to do is lay out this dynamic. ‘Nuff said. I believe Mr. Met is curled up somewhere in shame. I know I am!

Since I need to start a topic today other than everyone jumping on the Phillies or Yankees bandwagon :loser: I’ll ask you this: If you don’t feel my pain, share your own. What would be your biggest fear as a sports fan?

Carly

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

my fear would be for them to quit broadcasting sports period. I listen to sports(any kind) on tv as background noise when I’m writing. I know, I know, normal people use music to tune out the world around them so they can get lost in the one on the page. What can I say? I’m not normal. :rotfl1:

I don’t do professional sports, other than golf. I love to curl up on a quiet Sunday and watch a good match. I watch the Super Bowl for the ads.

:soapbox: FYI, as a NY resident, who is not a Yankee fan, I have a problem with this bet between the Governors. We can’t balance the budget but he can bet a luxury vacation to a Philly Fan if they win? Whose tax dollars are paying for it? :biteme:

Oh Carly I will tell you pain rewind back to 1984 i was in the 5th grade we lived in Cortez Colorado. Some how I started watching Football The Denver Broncos and focused on #7 John Elway I went trough many ups and lots of downs Superbowl losses and finally Superbowl wins. There are much more to the inbetween story but I will shorten it and then it happened he announced retirement I actually cried what were they going to do? So I’ve spent many years watching QB’s come and QB’s go my husband tried to convince me that Jay Cutler was the Man and I won’t even start there. so Last year when they got rid of Cutler and then let Mike Shanahan go I was mortified. So before the season even began this year I had written the Denver Broncos off not even winning again this was my worst fear since the loss of the great #7. I would like to point out that they have suprised the &^(* out of me haven’t lost a game yet.

Was hoping the Phillies would get killed by the Yankees – I am Dodger fan and was not happy they didnt get to the World Series. They are good at sweeping the first round, cannot figure that out.

My Dad who always loved baseball was a big Yankee fan and always said pitching is the name of the game – and he was so right – darn it – Lee was awesome last nite.

It is my birthday today, so maybe as a consolation, I will win the baseball pool tonite.

As for a fear, I really have none – but if I had to choose, it would be not televising any Dodger games at all – they are few and far between as it is.

Well, I’m a TN Titans fan and we are 0-6 right now. Is never ok, but last year we had the best record in the league. Hoping we can start turning it around this weekend.

Ok everyone watch it! I am a huge Philly fan and am so glad they are playing the Yankees. Can’t be a better series than this! Let’s just say may the best team win!

Although baseball is my least favorite sport. I love watching football and hockey. Can’t say I’m a huge basketball fan either.

    GO PHILLIES!!!!

Awe, I like the Mets – so I do feel your pain, Carly.
As for my biggest fear… :P I don’t think I have one. O_o I’m a Cleveland sports fan. Browns, Indians… and while I’m not a huge basketball person I always hope the Cavs do well so… yeah – like you said – ’nuff said.

Okay, I don’t watch sports, except for the occasional ice skating competition (which is rare). I didn’t even know that the World Series was this week (obviously, I really live under a rock).

I saw all of the ‘bets’ made by politicians and thought that the one by the mayors of NY and Philadelphia was the best, a day of community service in the winning team’s city wearing the winner’s jersey. How can you argue with that? (the other ‘bets’ by the senators/governors were just typical ones and ones that they make…I thought the community service one was a great idea….great photo op, plus something will get done!).

Finished Julie’s novella (Blazing Bedtime Stories) and it is awesome! Didn’t have a chance to start Leslie’s….that’s tonight!

Here in Texas it’s High School football that rules right now, but there are just a few games left then I will move into full swing Cowboys mode. :threecheers

Here’s what I have to say to the Texas Rangers. :moon:

Love the Mavs. My jazzercise group is going to perform at one of their half times this season….I guess my fear would be to fall or have something unmentionable be exposed during the perfomance!

Brett Favre is still my favorite QB no matter where he plays….maybe he should shoot for playing for every team in the NFL as some sort of Guiness record. I really like the old guys.

My biggest sports fear: Kyle Bush winning the NASCAR Sprint cup championship. I dislike him so much I’ve gotten to the point of recording the races and if I know he’s won, I delete it without ever watching. But maybe he’ll grow up and quit being such a whiny baby :boohoo: and I’ll learn patience and tolerance and it’ll all be okay. :D

I’m a St. Louis Cards fan. What World Series?

And Texas already beat OU, though since the NCAA decided Reggie Bush could skip the rules and buy a $600K house for his parents and forget to mention where the money came from (especially since he won the Heisman) but Dez Bryant panicked and lied about having dinner with a former NFL player and school alumni he’s out for the year as punishment, OSU doesn’t have much chance when they play the Longhorns Halloween night, so uhm…yeah. Trick or treat, ya’ll… Bitter? Not much. :*&#!:

All I have to say is, :wtf: NCAA?

Our Rockies lost in the playoffs so don’t talk to me about the Yankees and the World Series. :blahblah: Our boys chins were dragging on the ground. I felt so bad for them. But they played some great ball this year. Just to be mean and snarky I’m going to yell GO PHILLIES! Only because the Yankees beat our Rockies. As far as my biggest fear in sports, it was that our Rockies would lose the playoffs.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, we have probably 2 feet of snow on the ground. :bananaangel: And it’s still snowing. But I have an appointment with my stylist and you know what they say about mail men–neither snow nor rain nor hail… Well, they say the same thing about a woman who has an appointment with her stylist.

    I’m not worried, I drive a Highlander.

Okay, now for the BIG announcement: I’m hitting the “send” key on my ms to Brenda today. So, PLEASE :praying: wherever you are in the world, face in the general direction of Toronto and blow some luck in that direction, light some incense, do a dance, pray–whatever as I send this puppy to be read by The Great One. :cooldance:

    Thank you! :flowers4you:

    Cher :snowing:

I happen to be a big Atlanta Braves fan so you know I can’t stand the Philly’s and I also have no love for the Mets. (Same division) We, too, have had a rough patch these last couple of seasons but we were in the wild card chase this year so I felt somewhat better. But my biggest fear is that the Phillys will win the series again. Never have been a Yankees fan but I’m rooting hard for them! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Oh boy Carly, do I feel you pain…

Let’s hope we don’t face 3 more pitchers with that kind of a nite.

My biggest fear would be New England Pats not making the playoffs.

I am rooting for Brett Farve this year too! I would so love to see him get to

a super bowl. I know I don’t care about his team. LOL

Biggest sports pain, never seeing the 49′ers on top of the game again & winning the Super Bowl. They started out good this season but seem to have lost their way! Come on team get it together. :threecheers

I don’t know much about baseball – let alone which teams are based where.

As for my sports fear, it would be that they stopped showing televised coverage of the V8 Supercars Bathurst Race. Its the only race of the year that I deliberately make time to watch. I love my motorsports but as most of the coverage is on Sunday afternoons here, often I don’t get to watch it. Otherwise it would be that rugby would stop being shown – NZ is a rugby mad nation and I would not want to listen to the bellyaching that would come from most males and even some females if that happened.

Well, see, this Mets fan here doesn’t get why the Phillies are such mortal enemies, hence why I think it’s such an easy choice — the Yankees are the evil Empire (not Darth Vader types, I love Vader, so some other Empire :dart: ), therefore, Phillies must win! (preferably win at Yankees Stadium, wouldn’t that be oh so fun!!!! ) :cheer:

Karen, as a Dodgers fan, I feel your pain. However, as a NL fan & because of the Yanks money spent & its history, I ALWAYS make it a point to root against the Yankees, so, go Phils. Frankly, in spite of EC’s sports articles & Yanks’ bias, I think the Phils are the better team & pick it to win again.

I’m a little late – but I still want to share. My biggest fear was almost realized a couple of years ago when Nashville almost lost its hockey team. The team was about to go to a horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad man in Canada when a local group stepped up to the plate and purchased them… this is where the clouds part and angels sing….. It was a heartwrenching time for the fans of the Nashville Predators but incredible to be a part of the rallies that helped keep them in town.
