Janelle’s Jungle Madness “Breast Cancer Awareness” Contest!
Janelle Icon

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I wanted to giveaway something special that would remind the winner of the power of breast cancer awareness. With that in mind, I’m giving away a beautiful Brighton “Power of Pink” Badge Clip ($40.00 value).

Each year, Brighton specially designs a few new Breast Cancer Awareness items to help raise money that goes to various breast cancer charities. A portion of the purchase price of the bracelet is donated, and over the past few years Brighton has given over FOUR MILLION DOLLARS to breast cancer causes with the sale of these items. This year, Brighton has designed a beautiful Badge Clip, that can also be worn as just a regular necklace, as well. It’s a pink ribbon surrounded by crystals, and a great reminder of breast cancer awareness.

All you have to do to enter this contest is post on today’s blog. Winner will be announced on Sunday, so be sure to stop by over the weekend to check and see if you’re the winner!

JanelleJanelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

What a beautfiul pendant! If I were lucky enough to win it, I would give it to my friend Laurie Damron, who tirelessly supports the breast cancer cause and is a true angel on earth.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! It’s chilly here, but tomorrow night I’m going to go see Robin Williams in concert – can’t wait!

This year Breast Cancer awarness takes on a whole new meaning for me. Of course I’d been “aware” that it existed and that people got it and people had died from it. A few years ago my aunt and uncle who I adore finally completed their dreamhouse in Colorado a log cabin on 40 acres. Everything was going great for them. Then my uncle got a call from his doctor. He has Leukemia. We dealt with the surgery, the chemo, him being hospitalized for being ill, more chemo. Then he got laid off. Well, my family dealt with it and made the best of it. Then in March, 2009, my aunt(who is like a mom to me) got a call from her doctor. They found a cancerous mass. My aunt has breast cancer. We, again, dealt with surgery, chemo, her hair loss (which was more devastating to us than her) all with a grain of salt. My aunt is now going thru her last few rounds of radiation. The emotional toll is nothing compared to the financial toll. My aunt is one of the strongest people I know and willing to help anyone out through this she has continued to work as a hairstylist running her own business, she has also taken care of her dying mother in law and my own grandparents who were both hospitalized at the same time, then having to find them a assited living home which my grandfather has resisted yet she stays strong.
I myself have been trying to have surgrey (waiting for the insurance to ok it) but my aunt tells me to have it after her treatments and she would come help me as I recover and look after my kids. I was like don’t worry about me take care of yourself, but that is just the type of person she is. All of this has made breast cancer and I guess cancer “real” to me because it dosen’t just happen to other people it has happened to someone I love and care deeply about. :cloud9:

For all those who have lost the battle and all those fighting the battle my thoughts and prayers are with you and your famlies.

My mom is now a 5 year survivor of breast cancer. I had my own scare, on my 35th b’day when they wanted a baseline mamo in my file. Nothing like a call on your b’day to wake you up when they tell you they found a mass. I was lucky though- it turned out to be a cyst, caused by-ready for this?- my underwire bras. Turns out women with big ta-tas tend to have this problem. So I quit wearing them all the time and it went away. 15 years later and so far, knock on wood, no problems.

My grandmother and aunts also had breast cancer, and although I know they say family history is no indication, I still go every year for my annual boob squishing. It’s my b’day present to myself!

What a great prize to win, I had my scare with it in 2007 I had one cancer scare after the other with myself and then my mom got breast cancer and had to have surgery it went well but it was really hard and as soon as she was through with it my father got liver cancer not so luck and it was hard taking care of him. It is very important that all women get checked it only takes a few minutes and only a little pain for a while but it save all our lives.

Thanks again for putting this on the blog and letting all the people know how important it is to get tested.

My sister in law’s mom (My SIL is like a sister to me, given that I have only brothers) has breast cancer. She’s fought it for 8 years (the best we can count) off and on….she’s still fighting it….she’s given it all she can and then some….she is amazing :)

Next year, I gotta get my baseline (it’s already on my charts, along with a colonoscopy…my docs all think I am funny for telling them I have to do that!).

To everyone battling anything serious…lots of hugs to you. Janelle, that is gorgeous!!!

My sister-in-law is about to celebrate her 10yr anniversary of being Cancer free. She has had both breast cancer and leukemia. I am still in awe of how strong she was through her treatments and recovery. She had a 6mo baby when she was diagnosed and knew that nothing was going to stop her from being there to watch her daughter grow up.

    Hi Janelle,
It’s wonderful that you’re supporting such a wonderful cause…It’s also great to see that others’ are taking the time to invest in such a worthy issue…We need to eradicate breast cancer!!! We must find a cure…and we should definitely all try and do our part to help in whatever way possible…I actually try to make an attempt to purchase collectibles for different causes as much as possible…One of my absolute favourites is a small cosmetic case with the breast cancer ribbon patterned on it in Swarovski crystal…it is a gift from my Mum who lost her grandmother to the disease…

Thanks Janelle for giving such a wonderful prize on Friday. It is a good reminder to everyone. I think almost everyone has been touched by cancer either themselves, a family member, friend or coworker. Several people I know are breast cancer survivors and other cancers have attacked my family.

It takes a few moments everyday to go click at the Breast Cancer website. This month every click counts double.

The stories here that you are telling have touched my heart. :hugging: To all :inlove:

I am a cancer survivor and will be 10 yrs next month. My son-in-law was dignosed in Jul and given 6-12 mos to live. Brain cancer, bone, lung and began in kidneys. Was not working so no Insurance. My daughter is working to support him and his 12 yr old daughter. I do what I can for them but getting help is very hard. Being retired prevents me from helping more than I can now. The pin would be a beautiful reminder for me that I did beat cancer.

What a terrific prize! Knowing about breast cancer keeps me getting my mammogram annually as, thankfully, do many of my friends and relatives. It has been a blessing as three of my close friends have been diagnosed with breast cancer and it was caught early enough that they are presently all doing great. I am so thankfully for that. I think anything we can do to spread the word so all women get their mammograms and do self checks each month is worthwhile…save a mother, daughter, sister, friend, grandmother, aunt, neighbor, etc.
Wishing everyone a happy and safe week-end.

the power of Breast Cancer awareness: I LOVE that you are giving this awesome prize to remind the winner of the power of Breast Cancer awareness.
This beautiful prize would indeed remind me along with the discomfort and slight pain sometimes that I feel in my breast as I undergo Radiation Treatments. I have to have 25 treatments and have 8 left; wahoo and yippee. I so know the need of us women to have our annual Mammogram as my lump was found that way. It could not be felt. Two surgeries later, countless tests, x-rays, and now RADIATION and I will forever be grateful for the yearly MAMMOGRAM reminder letter that I receive .

My Mom passed away from Breast Cancer 6 years ago. Her sister, my Aunt, had had both breasts removed.

It is so important to take care of oneself.

:cheer: Very thoughtful and amazingly beautiful prize! If I won, I would give it to my 19 year-old daughter, Alexandra. Three years ago when I was diagnosed my daughter became my pink power-wielding advocate for breast cancer. It took my diagnosis to bring me to a closeness with my daughter that I had not had for a long time. She’s my biggest fan. The entire month of every October she wears pink every day. She defied her high school principal when he told her she couldn’t wear a “Save the Ta-Tas” shirt to school–guess who wore it at high school commencement practice? She is in her third (yes, third!) year of college (I never went) and is majoring in psychology with a goal of working fora non-profit breast cancer center helping children whose parents have been diagnosed with cancer. Alex is my jewel—my pink, sparkling jewel who drives me nuts and makes me laugh.
