Creepy . . . But Cool!
Janelle Icon

I love Tim Burton movies. Some of my favorites are Beetle Juice, Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd. Then again, I love Johnny Depp, :inlove: and he was in every one of those movies except for Beetle Juice. The thing I love the most about Tim Burton movies (outside of Johnny Depp), is that his movies are usually creepy . . . but really cool. 8) They’re different and original, quirky and imaginative. They always enthrall me and I love the twists he puts into his stories. :o

It appears that his upcoming movie, Alice in Wonderland (out in 2010) is no exception. Just recently I’ve been seeing pictures and advertisements for the film (again, with Johnny Depp!), and I can’t wait to watch this classic tale unfold through Tim Burton’s eyes. Here are some of the pictures of the characters from the film  :

JOHNNY DEPP as The Mad Hatter
Alice Mad Hatter Johnny Depp

ANNE HATHAWAY as The White Queen
Alice Anne Hathaway White Queen

HELENA BONHAM CARTER as The Red Queen
Alice Helena Bonham Carter Red Queen

MATT LUCAS as Twiddledee & Twiddledum
Alice Tweedledee Matt Lucas

CHESHIRE THE CAT
Alice Cheshire Cat

Do you enjoy Tim Burton movies? Which ones are your favorite? And will you go see Alice in Wonderland when it’s out in theaters?

JanelleJanelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

I love, love LOVE his movies. And if you google it, there is now a trailer, which really brings out the creep factor.

He really sticks to the story, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as opposed to Willy Wonka. Alice in Wonderland should be no different. I don’t know how kid friendly it will be but who cares?

I’m not really a Tim Burton Fan : too weird and creepy for me.
On the other hand it looks like his adaptation of Alice will be really close to the original book.

I do like JD, Anne and Helena, but I’m not sure I’ll be watching the movie. Never saw the Chocolate Factory either. Just…didn’t. We’ll see about Alice though.

I like Tim Burton movies, and will see his version of Alice. I have a friend who’s favorite books ever are Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. She said based on what she has seen and read, Burton is following the books much as he did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(I still love the original Willy Wonka too). I really love Beetlejuice, Sweeney Todd, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory best of his movies. His movies are very creepy and I doubt his Alice will really be made for children, but I’m looking forward to it.

    Good morning jungle buddies…

Hey Janelle, I heart Johnny Depp too, ever since 21 Jump Street, but I don’t know about this one…I saw previews for it when I went to see G-Force in 3-D…the preview was cool, because it was also in 3-D, but I just don’t know…the Mad Hatter was so scary looking, but then again that is Tim Burton for you…I absolutely love his creative genius. Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice are the only two I saw…Beetlejuice was my fav out of the two, but Edward Scissorhands was great too…the premise was awesome…never got the chance to see Sweeny Todd, but I really want to…they DVD should be out by now…I will swing by again later…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

Paula — I really liked Sweeny Todd even though it WAS creepy and very gorey. Some scenes are shocking. But I thought that Depp did a phenomenal job with his character, and singing, too! But if you’re at all squeamish, this might not be a movie you want to watch, LOL.

Tim Burton is too creepy for me. However, I did enjoy Edward Scissorhands. I loved the opening neighborhood scene with all the pastel houses looking the same–poking some fun at suburbia.

You know the sad thing about Lewis Carroll is that he might have been a pedephile. He also enjoyed photography and the majority of his pics were of young girls. Ewww!

Okay, I have 2 major confessions to make…

I have never seen a Tim Burton movie all the way through. I’ve seen bits and pieces of each of the above movies listed- usually when hubby is watching them – but I’ve never sat down and watched one straight through from beginning to end.

Confession #2…I don’t think I’ve ever read Alice in Wonderland. :fainting: I remember having the book as a child and being freaked out by it, so I don’t think I ever got all the way through it. If I did, I don’t remember a thing about it. The only thing I know, is what I’ve picked up through a lifetime of references to it.

Anyone else want to make any soul-bearing confessions this morning?

Allannah…I have never seen a Tim Burton movie OR read “Alice”. It always seemed to me like he was on a trip (and I am not talking about the kind you take in a car). Just not my thing and that is okay (I really think Tim Burton is a creative genius). My boys saw it when they saw G-Force and my oldest I think wants to see it (I’ll let the Hub take him…not).

Wow. If the makeup and costumes for ALICE don’t get nominated for Oscars, the system is broken! I’m not a huge Burton fan though Beetlejuice was a lot of fun. We wait until DVDs are available but since I love the book, I’m looking forward to seeing this version of it.

I love Tim Burton movies but the big draw is Johnny Depp. I hope to see Alice in Wonderland before it hits DVD. I don’t tend to see movies before they hit the video store or HBO. :loser: I know I’m a big loser but hey I DO see them all eventually! LOL

I love the movie Don Juan De Marco with Johnny Depp. I could watch that one over and over again.

Hey did anyone see Hung on HBO last night? I was just wondering what everyone thought about the show. I am definitely hooked. I guess it is now my new guilty pleasure! LOL

Some Tim Burton movies I have loved– Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Corpse Bride, Nightmare Bfore Christmas, Sweeney.

But some I’ve hated– Willy Wonka, Sleepy Hollow.

I’m really not too into Alice. I don’t like the story at all, never have. And already just from these pictures, I don’t think I’ll like this one, unfortunately! (Helena Bonham Carter looks like a bobble-head doll!)
