Summer Plans & Travel
Janelle Icon

Now that summer is upon us, does anyone have any fun travel plans to share?  Next month I’m heading to Washington D.C. for the RWA conference and to plot with the other Plotmonkeys, and then in August me and my family are going to California to visit family & friends.  Nothing too exciting, but we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone after a year of living in Oregon.

I’d love to hear about everyone else’s plans for the summer.  Camping?  Cruises?  A dream vacation?  Let’s hear about it!

Janelle

JanelleJanelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 20 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 40 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

No exciting travel plans for me. I did go to Cincy for Lori Foster’s get-together, which was a lot of fun, but that’s about it. I’m taking it easy this year, not spending a lot of money. I am taking the week of RWA off because earlier in the year I had intended to go but then decided not to. I’m going to really take the time to catch up on my reading, so I’m really looking forward to that, and possibly taking small trips into the city, since I haven’t explored much of Chicago. Just very low-key.

I went to Chicago in May with my oldest niece, but no other big plans for me this year. My middle niece is coming up this weekend so we can spend time together and I’m getting youngest for a week later in July. Our only plans are to spend time at the pool, see some family and friends.

    :coffee: Good morning all!
My plans this summer? Well my vacation of sorts isn’t taking place until mid September. We will be going to Galveston and Houston once again. I wish it were sooner but because of the heat down there maybe it is best if we wait until September. LOL

I’m trying to reintegrate back into life after being on vacation last week. We spent a week in Myrtle Beach at the Breakers Resort. They have a lazy river ride, 5 or 6 pools and about the same number of hot tubs. It’s right on the beach, so if you get tired of the pools you can get in the ocean – or vice versa.

We did a lot of cool things while we were there. One night, we had dinner at Medieval Times. We spent one day at a water park that has dozens of slides and lazy river rides and a wave pool. We went to the Ripley’s Aquarium and then had dinner at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville – what a blast that was!!

The rest of the time was spent hanging out on the balcony listening to the music from the patio bar next door or just relaxing. And now we’re back to the same ‘ole grind. :boohoo: But I’m grateful for the time we had last week!

No vacation trip this year. Not even National. It’s just not in the budget. Maybe next year.

Soon, we’re headed to Disneyland. That’s about it. Soon, we’ll be scheduled for the remaining part of the summer (not complaining, mind you!).

I promised to finish a manuscript by the end of August so, other than Nationals, I’ll be glued to the chair in front of my computer for the summer. At least my office window looks out over the back yard.

My husband came home one Saturday in early June from getting his hair cut and told me about a good deal to Disney World in Florida. By the end of the day we were all booked for a week at the end of August. I know it’s hot and humid in Florida, but I don’t care because I love Disney! We’re all looking forward to it.

The DH and I are driving to RWA Nationals. Can’t wait to see everyone there! :dancebanana: In August, we have dear friends coming for a visit, and over Labor Day my CP and I are headed to New Orleans for Heather Graham’s Writers for New Orleans Conference. That’s my last hurrah of the summer. I am taking an 11-day cruise in January, though. :snoopy:

Hope everyone has a great summer.

Celebrate Romance in Portland for a long weekend was my vacation this year. It was 28, windy & sleeting, but, I didn’t mind for a short while. Since it appears CR is now defunct, I won’t be taking many more trips. I’ll miss CR as it was always great fun. I’ll miss friends, & I learned a lot about current reading trends. While I enjoyed them all, still think Chicago (my lst) was the best. Really enjoyed seeing Lori & Tony Karayianni (aka Tori Carrington), who are such fun & always make me laugh. I loved the used book caravan which took us into Valentine, IL, a little antique village amidst the agriculture area. I envy Chicago readers who have such great UBSs. In L.A., they are closing in great numbers.

Ugh…well for the last two weeks and the next two weeks I’m basically being caregiver to my visiting grandparents. Which means I pretty much just cater to them all day and try to get out of the house alone for at least an hour so I don’t go insane. However, last time I managed a brief escape my g’ma fell and my g’pa has been in recovery since he got here…

Other than that the rest of my summer is pretty much shot since I can’t get a job for only a month. I’ll probably just end up volunteering somewhere since I need the hours for school anyway. It’s good that I live in a resort town though, cause it’s not like I can complain about crappy weather and scenery…only the overflow of annoying tourists who I fear might sink the island

    Happy Monday!

    <3 J

Since I just got back from being gone for two & a half weeks that is my planned travel for the summer. The trip was planned around my oldest daughter’s graduation with her Masters in Accounting from the University of Oregon. The trip was fun, being at her graduation was wonderful. I also got to see my granddaughter’s 5th grade promotion and her performance in Beauty and the Beast for her school play. She had two small parts in the production. I visited good friends in Sisters, Oregon which is in the Cascade Mountains a beautiful small town. My friends have known me since I was 15 & kept telling everyone I met at their house that they had known me for 53 years!! It was rodeo weekend and they host a big gathering of family & friends for the event. It was so much fun. I got to see 3 or their 4 adult children that I have known since they were born. I was their baby sitter!! Enough to make a person feel old!!! :giggler: The trip also took me to the Medford area where I visited my brother & then cousins. There was not enough time to connect with everyone in the Medford area as some had to much else going on in their busy lives. Such is life. Maybe next time.

Janelle if you and the family have not been to Sisters and the Bend area it is beautiful country. I went from the Eugene/Springfield area over the Santiam to Sisters, what a beautiful drive. I loved every mile of it and especially the lack of traffic!! I came home to :hothot: weather that is starting to cool down a bit. Every time I am in Oregon I fall in love with it all over again. It is a wonderful state.
Have a good day to all. :waving: :flag: :flag: :flag:

Hubby went to Jersey with the grandkids this weekend and is due home tonite. Usually we go for the week, but #2 Daughter was home from college for the week and is going back Sat so I stayed here with her. She and I are going to NYC to see Rock of Ages on Thurs, home Fri and then to SPAC to see Poison and Deff Leppard, then she heads back to LA on Sat.

Next month I am going to Readercon in MA for a day or so, mainly because our con-Albacon- offered to run the hospitality suite for a meal. Our GOH is going to be there and we felt someone from our con should be there to greet and say hi. Haven’t told hubby yet.

This Aug the kids will be up to Lake George for a week and I am taking time off from work so I will probably drive up everyday to play with the twins. Hopefully hubby can get the time off too.

I have too much work I want done around the house to take a big vaca, but that is ok since it will be worth it.

I went to Hawaii with a few friends at the beginning of last month. It was my first time there and I really enjoyed it. Pearl Harbor and the memorials and museums the atmosphere there is indescribable. And, the Volcano National Park was a lot of fun. I really had a great time hiking through rain forest to get to the volcano crater and then walking across it and seeing the steam still coming out of a few places.

Next up for me in DC/Virginia in three weeks for my cousin’s wedding. I’m hoping to sneak in a drive down to Georgia to visit with some friends since I’ll be on the East Coast.
