Carly’s Friday Jungle Madness
Carly Icon

I woke up in a funky mood on Thursday and as you all know – as the world knows – yesterday was surreal. For many of us it was the day two childhood icons died. I need a pick me up. I think we all do. So here’s my solution. Post a comment here today for a chance to win a chance to win a $25 Sephora gift card. You can use it in stores or online!

Any of you as affected by yesterday as me?

Carly

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

I think I am more affected by Farrah’s passing than Michael’s. I was never a big Michael fan, even though we are the same age. (I preferred Donny, and still do). Farrah on the other hand, especially in the last few years, lived her life with such dignity, knowing that the kind of cancer she had was not something that people want to talk about or even acknowledge.

i wish she and Ryan had had a chance to marry first. :boohoo:

I think Michael’s death hit a lot harder because it was so unexpected. At least it did for me. With Farrah, it was sad, knowing she was sick, and that her and Ryan hoped to marry before she passed away. Michael’s death was a total shock. I was a huge fan of his Thriller days, when I was around 11, 12 yrs old. Just unreal to think he’s gone. What a sad week.

Both deaths saddened me, too. Michael Jackson was such an American culture icon from the 80s, even my teenage kids who didn’t live through that area were affected when I told them.

This has been a sad week, Farrah with her smile and the way she battled cancer with grace and dignity. She’ll be missed
And Michael, what an amazing singer and dancer. There aren’t many performers who have had a career like his.
Ed McMahon will be missed as well, I loved to hear him laugh with Johnny carson.

It was a surreal day. I was really saddened to learn of Farrah’s passing because she was just such a wonderful spirit and you couldn’t have gotten through the past month without realizing that she was nearing the end of her struggle. With Michael,, it was a holy crap kind of thing because it came out of nowhere. No visible signs of a health problem – at least not that he let on. Just a shock. Two great talents gone. What a sad day.

It was sad yesterday! I was shocked by all that happened.

I am doing better today because it is my 42nd birthday. My hubby is taking me to a restaurant called Chedders for dinner and my youngest daughter, who two weeks from today will turn 20, made me a white cake from scratch and even made lemon icing from scratch. It was her first layered cake and the first cake and icing from scratch! It turned out beautiful. Okay, so I am prejudice on the subject but I was touched!
I hope all of you have a great day and a great weekend!

It sure was a hard day yesterday with both of their deaths, and the day before with Ed it really hits me hard to see all these people that we have watched and maybe didn’t always agree with what one of them may or may not have done. Michaels music is something we will never forget. Farrah I am sure her poster is still up in several mens area I was shocked when I went to one of my friends and her husband still had her poster.
It really just shows how old we are getting when we see all these celebrities die.

I hope everyone has a good day and a great weekend. I know my day is not going to be the same.

Even knowing Farrah’s death could come at any time, I was still surprised and saddened by her death yesterday. I was so hoping she and Ryan would be able to marry before she died. I was totally shocked to find out about Michael. I knew before I left work that he was taken to the hospital, but was so shocked to find out that he was gone. I still remember waiting for the premier of the Thriller video on MTV when I was 11 or 12. Both were such talented people, and their deaths coming so soon after Ed McMahon’s made it a really sad week.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I finished reading Fade to Black this morning and can only say; everyone needs to either pre-order or be in the bookstore on the release date! One of Leslie’s best books ever!

While I wasn’t a big Michael Jackson fan, I believe the world is a better place because of his music. It is too bad his personal life was filled with so much pain and sadness.

Farrah will also be missed. She was a better actress than what most people gave her credit for. Look at her performance in ‘The Burning Bed’…outstanding and definately not a glamour girl part.

And finally Ed McMahon’s passing, for me, was the biggest loss to the entertainment world. He was such an icon and played so well off Johnny Carson.

Sad week for the entertainment industry. :boohoo:

It was so sad to learn of Farrah’s and Michael’s deaths. While Farrah’s was somewhat expected, she still was only 62 and had a lot to live for including marrying Ryan. It was hard to imagine having your son in jail that he could not be by her side during her final hours…something he will have to live with and I am sure saddened her.
Then a few hours later the very unexpected death of MIchael at only age 50…total shock. Just when he was getting his life back on track and seemed ready to make a comeback with his fans so looking forward to seeing him on stage again.
A very sad day as much talent was lost by both these wonderful people.

I was especially affected by Farrah’s death. I was a huge Charlie’s Angels fan. I can remember reading a magazine article about her, with diagrams of the exercises she did to stay in shape. I of course used her shampoo and anything else Farrah. Then her fabulous performance in The Burning Bed. Unforgettable. She was an amazing woman, a definite icon from my generation and she will be sorely missed. I feel for Ryan O’Neal, her son, who is I believe in jail–so sad–and all of her family and friends. And to die at 62. So sad. And she had to lose that beautiful hair to the ravages of chemo…I was flipping through the channels last night and stopped for a moment on Larry King. He said, “We were planning to do a show tonight on Farrah Fawcett but with the death of Michael Jackson that show is in the past.” What a thing to say. At least Entertainment Tonight did their show about Farrah instead of scrapping it for Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson was an amazing talent. Watching him perform was a feast for the eyes and senses. Whether you liked him or not. I do wonder what will happen to his children. Hopefully they won’t be held over balcony railings anymore. Despite all of his success and over-the-top fame I think he was a very unhappy and insecure man.

His estate no doubt–No. Doubt.–have people already in line including his family–ready, willing and can’t-wait-ready to make a boat load of money off of his death. People were selling Michael Jackson T-shirts in the street about five minutes after his death was announced. Sad but true.

    Great prize today, Carly

I grew up on Michale. We shared a birthday after all. I remember where I was when I first heard and saw the 13 minute video for Thriller…I loved his music and his gentle and giving spirit…I still can’t wrap my mind around it all. Don’t enter me in for the gift card okay, good luck to everyone.

I think that the entire summer has been surreal. the demonstrations in Iran. Everyone holding their collective breath to see whether the economy recovers. Yesterday was even more so. It is like a part of my youth died yesterday. I graduated from h.s. in 76. Both Michael Jackson and Farrah were 70s icons.

Worst, I must admit a little relief over Michael Jackson’s death for a myriad of reasons. I feel now his music can be enjoyed without the shadow of his personal life. (Yes, I am pretty convinced that Michael Jackson was a pedophile) Also, I could not see the man without feeling his increasing isolation, detachment, and pain. I didn’t see a pretty future for Michael Jackson.

I took a class at the Fashion Institute of Design in LA during the 1980′s and we took a tour of the costume designer Bob Mackie’s studio. He showed us the glove he designed for Michael Jackson. Mr Mackie was know as the “sultan of sequins” and he was famous for his elaborate designs for gowns for Carole Burnett, Cher and Tina Turner. The glove is expected to sell for thousands of dollars at auction.

So very sad to hear about Michael Jackson in particular — sad about Farrah too, but after seeing her recent documentary, her death was not unexpected. MJ’s though, was such a shock.I have always been a huge fan of MJ, ever since I was a kid (the same age as him). Such an amazing talent, and, by all accounts, a wonderful father. So tragic that his life was marred by frivolous lawsuits and absurd allegations. I was really rooting for his comeback. I haven’t felt like this since the day Elvis died.

Yesterday the entertainment industry took a sad hit. I’ve never been a big Michael Jackson fan, my daughters might have been when they were in their early teens. There was no denying his talent.

Farah fought with grace and determination to win her battle with cancer. Her passing is sad. I loved the show Charlie’s Angels. She set a wonderful example for anyone struggling with cancer.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear that Farrah died. Then on top of it all to hear Michael Jackson died. I mean, OH MY GOSH!!! I grew up listening to his music! I went to one of his concerts just before him and his brothers broke out into their own acts. :gimmehug: I just cried! :boohoo:

Also, earlier in the week we lost Ed McMahon, host of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. It has really been a sad week.

I want to wish you all a very good weekend! Have fun with your family and friends! Tell someone how much you love them because you just never know.

It was a tough day yesterday and still is. It made me think too of my mom and missing her, and others. So it had me reflecting more to reach out and remind so many in my life that I love them.

I found myself sad and a little numb. I had Michael Jackson posters on my wall when I was a teenager and I still enjoy his music today. Oh, and Farrah…I always thought she was beautiful and to this day, I still have her hair style. Even if it is a bit out of style. lol

:crying: :meditate: Well, I must say that the saddest thing of all is how badly Michael needed some serious therapy….he really made some bizarre and unhealthy choices as his life & fame progressed…

I am very sad about both of them. I am particularly sad about Farrah’s passing and I do think that she has been a bit overshadowed by Michael which makes me sad. I am keeping them and their families in my thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.

It sucks, true, but it happens, no one can stop death.

    Although I’m working on it.

I’m with a younger generation that didn’t see Farrah as much as we did Michael. He seemed to influence everyone that wanted to make music. He had such a huge affect on the world that I think is why the news is covering what happened to him more than Farrah. Hopefully both their families can be together and celebrate all the good things and the love they had.

I was definitely more surprised by MJ’s death. It just came out of nowhere. Farrah has been slowly slipping away for two years. Both influenced our culture in very unique ways!

I was surprised at how sad I felt. I remember MJ when I was a kid, and how much I enjoyed his music. That’s how I’ll remember him, rather than how odd he became.
