Only Me
Carly Icon

My camera died and we are taking the vacation of a lifetime in a few weeks. Friends of ours daughter is getting married in Turks and Caicos over Memorial Day and we are invited! For an occasion like this, I needed a new camera. So I researched and researched and came up with a brand first: Canon. I had a Canon awhile ago and two Sony’s in between. I agreed with the research. Canon was best. I then dug into specifics and came up with a few important criteria – IS – I needed Image Stabilization to eliminate blurriness with moving dogs; and I needed “smart” – as in let the camera decide when it needs flash, etc. In other words, idiot proof.

One thing you may not know about me but the other plotmonkeys do is that when I decide I want something, I want it YESTERDAY. So after a week of Googling and researching, I wanted the camera to take pictures on Mother’s Day. Of course if I’d decided a few days earlier, Amazon would have had it on my doorstep but now it was Sunday morning. I feel like there’s no place to actually buy something except online. Circuit City closed, Target didn’t have the product. Finally I found Bestbuy.com online and realized they had the “pickup in store” feature. One click and I’d ordered my camera. The only bad part was that Best Buy doesn’t take long to get to but once you are there it’s not really near anything else. Remember that later on.

I am now in love with my new little red camera. Red is the new pink for me and it matches everything from my wallet to my cell phone case. Anyway, I meet my family for lunch and I point and shoot! Feels great in my hands .. and a little message comes up on the screen. “Can Not Record!” :wtf: So I look at the controls and I see maybe it’s not on Camera Mode. You see this little baby also records. So I switch it to Camera and I point and shoot again. And what do I see? “Can Not Record!” :fryingpan:

Turns out – MEDIA CARD NOT INCLUDED – which I knew – but I did think I’d be able to take a few pictures with the new camera before I had to buy a media card. I was rushing and just didn’t look into it or even think about it.
 And as I mentioned before, Best Buy is not near anything and I couldn’t go back there for the card. So I looked at all the things in the house, no matching media card. I called every close store I could think of. Nobody carried media cards. So what did I do? I went to Amazon and ordered a media card to be delivered … TUESDAY. (Note: someone removed my banging head against a wall icon!).

End of story: I didn’t have my new camera to use on Mother’s Day. But I do have my new little red camera.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

PS – if you’ve won a prize from me, I have not forgotten. I have just been swamped! Thank you for hanging in there … it’ll be coming soon!

I am the same way. Need it now, once my mind is made up. We usually buy everything at B&H Photo Video in Manhattan. Take a trip twice a year and do the rest by mail. They have everything and it’s like a big toy store for adults!

Canon cameras are basically all we own- from point and shoots to 3 or 4 digital Rebel Eos. We won’t talk about the lens. Ouch.

You are down that way Carly, I am surprised you don’t know about B&H. They are closed Fri afternoons and all day Saturday, but guaranteed to be open on things like Thanksgiving or holidays that don’t fall on the Sabbath. Easy to spend hours in there playing!

I am jealous of the destination wedding. You should have a great time!

Carly glad you got your camera and to bad they didn’t tell you when you bought it that you would need a card. I have gotten in the habit of asking before I buy anything because it seems like everytime I bought something there was always something else we needed. How come they don’t sell it all together??? Another way to get more money..
I am like you when I want something I wanted it yesterday!!!!!!!
I always feel sorry for my hubby when we go furniture shopping…

:coffee: Cute camera! My daughter received a Fuji brand camera from her sister for her birthday last year. It was the one sold at Wal Mart that cost around 300.00. When she got it her sister didn’t know she needed a media card (My older daughter is technologically challenged LOL) So I bought the media card for her. My younger daughter wants to be a photographer and at almost 20 she is about to start some classes to help her in her endeavor. :winking:
We had a great Mothers Day. The hubby and my dad took myself, my mom and my grandma to lunch at Red Lobster. My youngest had crab legs for the first time and it was really nice. Red Lobster is the only decent place to get seafood in Lubbock, TX because we are 11 hours from the coast!
I hope everyone had a great day and spent it with the ones they love the most!
Have a great Monday everyone! :waving:

That’s why I always wait until my mom wants something (she researches it) and then I just buy what she has. She recommended another ‘card’, so we got one. Have fun on your trip!

I have this wonderful, fancy Olympus (and the metal suitcase of lenses that goes with it) and I usually end up using the cheap little Kodak digital we bought the DD back in high school for a trip to Holland for a softball tournament.

Found the :wallbanger: icon, Carly! Next to the flaq and the flames.

I hope all the moms had a :md2: Have a great week, :dancingmonk: We’re having another day of :rain:

WoW. I am a buy by the seat of your pants girl. Last week, I went in to get my Centro Treo fixed for the fourth time. :wallbanger:

Needless to say, I walked out with a blackberry. Do stuff like this all.the.time. No planning, no preparation.

Enjoy your camera and the wedding.

I tend more toward impulse buying!! Not always the best way to buy things. Maybe next year I will look into buying a digital camera. I’ve been storing away bits of information about digitals. My daughter has a Kodak that she takes great pictures with. At the moment I forget exactly which one but middle of the road one in the price category. She took a class recently to learn more as she has really gotten into photography as a hobby.

I love that your camera is red, enjoy it & enjoy that trip for a wedding. Sounds fun. :monkey:

Cute red camera Carly. I have a Kodak easy share that I got the day after Thanksgiving. It is so easy to use and takes really great pictures.

I hate getting new things nowadays. Everything has some sort of computer element and ends up being more complicated to use than it should be. We had a digital camera that worked pretty well, but my husband wanted one with a few more features (image stabilization for one). The new camera is lovely, but I haven’t had time to read the book. Since I’m usually the one to take the pictures, we have no new pictures since getting the camera 3 months ago.
    Enjoy your trip.
