OK someone has to address this. SWINE FLU. It’s real. It’s happening. My daughter’s best friends’ school was closed for two weeks (before the CDC said 2 weeks isn’t necessary so they reopened). So of course Sunday night, my daughter didn’t feel well. She was dizzy. Monday morning she was dizzy and achey. We went to the doctor where they said, yes she’s sick, but without fever it’s probably not Swine Flu or regular flu, but they can’t test there, I’d have to go to the ER. Where IMO she’d only get sicker and catch who knows what from other sick people. So we agreed that we’d watch for fever, if it spiked we’d test, if not it was probably viral and it would have to run its course. So the strep test came back negative, it’s Thursday and she’s still sick. But no fever, so she’s just riding it out and suffering. Poor baby.
In light of this, I thought I could share this joke (which I bet many of you already received in email). I think it’s funny despite everything and because of everything – and if you don’t, apologies ahead of time. I’m not making light of something that could be serious. OK I am making light.

Carly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

Poor hubby has been dealing with the State Health Dept with the the H1N1. NY finally managed to buy some of the test kits so that it didn’t need to be sent out of state. And no, no one there is running around with masks on either.
Tis the time of the year from spring colds, especially kids. Best thing to do is open windows and air your place out if it has been shut up all winter (like here), wash your hands but don’t go overboard with the anti-bacterial cleaners. They actually kill more good germs that help fight off the bad germs than they kill bad germs.
The telling point will be what happens in the Southern Hemisphere since they are going into winter. If it gets bad, then we might have a problem when we hit winter. Hopefully by then there will be a vaccination for it.

I am sorry to read that your daughter isn’t feeling well. I hope that she feels better soon. Not much we can do but wait and see I have three children that are 4 and under. I have been watching closly because if one gets it the whole house is sick.
FYI Carly I just got my HQN package and Lucky Streak was in it. I plan on reading it this weekend. I am sure that it will be great.

I hope your daughter feels better soon. I know that there is a couple of other virus going around our area and have sent people into a panic, but no swine flu yet.
BTW I loved this cartoon. I got it in an email yesterday.

I hope your daughter feels better…
Last week, all three of my boys had a bug…two of them had ‘some’ of the symptoms and youngest had all of the symptoms (except for the intestinal ones). Went to the doc (not our regular doc) and she said it was a ‘teeny cold’. Okay, he had a fever, congestion, didn’t feel good and a barky, wheezy cough in the middle of the night. I figure I did my best (by going to the doctor). I hope it wasn’t the swine flu.

Carly I hope your daughter is on the mend quickly I know first hand how it is when you are sick and there is nothing they can do but ride it out.
Good luck…

Call me a sick puppy but I snorted coffee out my nose when the DH sent me that joke!
Hope your kidlet gets better soon, Carly, along with everyone else who is (or has a family member) fighting any sort of illness.

I hope your daughter feels better very soon, Carly. And I’m glad it isn’t the flu.
We now have “2″ reported cases of swine flu here in Colorado. One from a baggage handler at DIA and one from a woman who just returned from a cruise to Mexico. I am worried because my immune system is compromised because of the Remicade infusions I take for RA. I’m just trying to be vigilant, wash hands and use the hand sanitizer as much as possible. The only places I’ve been going are of a necessity, grocery and drug store. I did have to go to the ice arena this past weekend because my daughter skated in the DU ice show. But other than that…
Stay well all. BTW, as much as I love Pooh and his pals, that joke was funny. :-)

I guess I’m a sick puppy too as I laughed when I read this joke. I hadn’t seen this one yet.
Hope your daughter feels better soon Carly. They closed 3 schools in my area before the CDC lifted the restrictions. All 3 are open again, but now another one of the private schools says they have a case. Of course, they didn’t find it until after the CDC said you don’t have to close the schools.

Sending get well wishes to your daughter, Carly. My son was sick all last week, with a horrible cough, sore throat, swollen glands, but no fever. I took him to the doctor and it ended up being tracheitis. The doctor said he could go to school, but he sounded so awful, and with the whole swine flu thing, I didn’t want anyone freaking out that heard him cough. He’s much better now. There’s been one case (not confirmed yet, but they closed the school for a day) of the swine flu at a high school near us.
Hope everyone stays healthy!

Love the joke. Going to point it to all my friends–sometimes, you know, the best we can do is laugh at something until it disappears (remember the whatchamacallits in Harry Potter?).
I’ve had the flu all of twice in the past decade and plan to skip this one as well. I just don’t see an upside to it, and I know I won’t have any fun, so I’m just not going to do it. (knocks on wood)
Flu or not, I’m sorry your daughter is sick. Hope she’s better soon and that everyone else in your house stays well!
That goes for everyone!

Hey Carly and the rest of my beloved
. Hi jungle buddies…I hope that your youngest feels better soon…a lot of kids here have flu like symptoms, but it is not swine flu…TG!!!!
I never saw that joke before…it is pretty funny…I think that keeping your youngest home instead of going to the ER is the safest bet…
I hope that everyone has a wonderful rest of the day…gotta run…
I am absolutely enjoying Lucky Charm…yeah, I know…I am late, but I was trying to hold out for the next book…I lost the battle…love, love, love Derek…I think that you ladies have spoiled me, or rather, caused me to rethink my anal tendencies when it comes to series…
Peace and love,

Carly,
So sorry to hear about your daughter. Totally been there. Today DH had his second cataract surgery. Not doing as well as the first.
The funniest thing I have heard about the swine flu is that they are now calling it HAMTHRAX. laughed so hard.
HAve a great day!

We haven’t needed the “swine” version in this house. It’s been here since March–I was down with it for a good 3 weeks, then it steadily made its way through the girls. Sounds much like what your daughter’s going through Carly. So sorry to hear it and hope she gets better soon!

Carly,
I hope your daughter feels better soon.
I work at an insurance company and some of the agents went to Mexico and they were banned from coming back to work for a couple of days.
We had schools close here in Connecticut where people do have the swine flu.
I enjoyed the popcorn
actually I had to hide it from my son

Here in New Zealand, we have 5 or 6 confirmed cases. Personally I think that it has been blown out of proportion.
