Signs of Spring?
Leslie Icon

First off…stpat

Hopefully you’re all digging through your closets to find something green to wear. My girls are eagerly awaiting a visit from Mrs. Nagel (she’s a leprechaun who visits every St. Patty’s day and leaves a trail of green sparkles throughout the house, leading to a little basket of goodies. And no, this is not a tradition I started…oldest started doing it for youngest about 10 years ago.)

While I am in Vegas this week, in my heart, I’m back in Ireland…

king-of-castle

(Bruce and I hamming it up outside Ross Castle.)

Okay, moving on. I have to say, I am just scratching my head over the weather.

Two weeks ago yesterday, we had about 4” of snow. Other areas nearby got up to 6”. Five days later, on the day of Bruce’s big surprise birthday party (an outdoor kegger/paintball party. It was a total college throwback and a complete ball!) it was almost 80 degrees outside!! I am not complaining the weather could not have been more perfect and we had a fabulous time. It was as if Mother Nature decided to give Bruce a birthday present too.

The weird thing…I saw snow flurries again this past Friday! It was freaking cold out.

Anyway, as you know, I’m out of town this week, so maybe that’s why I’m talking about something as generic as the weather. But the truth is, I am really jonesing for spring. I already had dozens of daffodils and tulips planted in my front yard last year. Then, last summer, the state of Maryland decided to re-plant all its tulip bulbs along its highways. They do this every 3 years, apparently. They dug up these thousands upon thousands of bulbs, and they gave them away. I must have put another hundred or more in the ground. And I cannot wait to see the bouquet in my front yard. (Tulips are also Julie’s favorite!)

Spring…come on, baby…you can do it!

Any signs of it in your neck of the woods?

Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! :stpatrickstoast:

Les, we’re starting to see the first signs of Spring here in Oregon! Don and I were just commenting over the weekend that it’s starting to look green again. The weather the past few weeks has been really nice, though it has decided to rain all this week — so who knows when Spring will really get here! :rain:

didn’t pack a stitch of green, including my shamrock scarf and earrings my neighbor brought me from Ireland. With a last name like Ryan you would have thunk it right? But I usually wear Orange instead.

When I left NY on Saturday morning, it was nice out. By the time I got most of the way across Jersey, it was raining. And it hasn’t stopped. All the way across from Delaware to VA, to NC throught the Smokies (horror story) and the sun finally came out for a bit about 7pm here in Knoxville. I am hoping it’s quit following me.

I posted a picture from Feb on my blog where my daffodils were up about 6 inches. Then it snowed the next day. It’s upstate NY- you can never win with the weather.

I’m glad Bruce had a great b’day. I am thinking next year for my 50th about going away by myself. My family is not all that great about celebrating birthdays unless it is my brother’s, so I am not that big on them.

:kissme: Happy St Patty’s Day everyone.

    HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY :stpatrickstoast:

We have a few flowers coming up here in Kentucky. The daffodils are starting to bloom, crocus, etc. I just wish the weather would stabilize so I can get outside. I’m a pansy when it comes to cold weather. Can’t/Won’t go outside unless I absolutely have too.

    Have a great day. :kissme:

:stpatrickstoast: Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! (no green for me today unless you count one of the stones in my ring)

We do have signs of spring in Nashville. The flowers and trees are blooming all over the place. Of course, we always have one more cold spell in late March early April, so spring isn’t here to stay yet.

I love tulips too. They are one of my favorite flowers, I just don’t have a place to grow them at my apartment.

:stpatrickstoast: :kissme: We are sort of having ‘winter’ like storms this week. I am not complaining. We had a great January/February, but now, it is raining really hard. What’s even more interesting is my middle son told me the other day, “it’s raining hard”.

:kissme: I traditionally have at least one daffodil blooming in my garden on my birthday (3/1). This year, I had JUST one. Since then, though, the daffodils have bloomed, the peach tree blossomed, hyacinths, red bud trees…the whole gamut! It’s headed to the 70s today and is supposed be warm for the next week, though down to the forties at night. :snoopy:

Ev, see you in a couple of days! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! :stpatrickstoast: May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day! Our weather has warmed up this week and I am so glad for it. I love spring! For some reason I am more depressed in the winter months. So, I am finally “blooming” for the year.

Leslie, how wonderful for you that you’ve been to Ireland. I long to visit there, makes me think I might be Irish.

Are you enjoying the nice Vegas weather? I am loving it.

Ev, I hope you are being careful out there. That last comment makes me worry a little.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Take Care!

I know spring is around the corner because the temp for a high has been above 30 instead of in the 20s, I saw 2 robins this morning, and the regular season for baseball starts soon!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Everyone! :kissme:

I wish you could send some of that snow to Denver, Leslie. And Janelle, please direct the rain to the high plains! We have had almost no winter this year and that does not bode well for my neck of the woods. We have very low humidity here–like 10 to 20 percent. In the summer it can drop to only 5%. All it will take is someone throwing a cigarette out of their car window to start a fire especially along the highways. The brush there is bone dry. Unless things change and we have a wet spring or summer the fire danger will be over the top this year.

    Cher

The weather here in Southern California is absolutely beautiful today – so nice that I might have to grab a book, sit out in my backyard, and work on my tan. (I love spring break)

Ev, drive safely – and let your current weather sorrows be replaced with the anticipation of sunny skies on the other end :D

Have a great day everyone – and have a green beer (or two or three…) on me!

Top o’ the morning to you all… Here on the west coast it is still morning! :stpatrickstoast:

Here in this area of northern California we have the best weather, very mild, rarely really cold. When it gets down to freezing everyone complains loudly!! :hissyfit: We have many things blooming, here it is so mild there is almost always something blooming even in the colder weather. The daffodils are starting to finish up and the tulips are starting, some of the trees are blooming, lots of new green every where. At the moment it is somewhat cloudy but is supposed to be in the high 60′s. We still need rain :rain: I hope we get more or else we are going to have a very dry summer with high fire danger & water restrictions. Right now all is lovely green and beautiful.

We’re definitely experiencing spring like weather here in Denver this week. Last Tuesday we had snow in the morning and today we’ll hit the 70s for the second day in a row. Tomorrow and Thursday are supposed to be in the 60s and then back in the 70s by Friday.

Personally, I’m sad because I wanted more real winter than we really got here. *sigh*

Spring is finally trying to make an appearance. My day lillys are finally starting to come up.

The weather here is wild and wacky as usual, got to love living in Nevada. Snow in the mountains yesterday. Sunny and breezy today. If we are lucky we might make it to 60. :dancebanana:
