It Never Rains in Aruba … Oh Really?
Carly Icon

If you’ve been visiting the jungle for awhile, you know I tend to have travel issues. Not as many lately, but this one is worth repeating. I’m back from Aruba and had THE BEST time. I’m relaxed for the first time in what feels like forever. We’ve been going to Aruba for one week, during each of the last 5 years and we have had maybe one hour of rain in all that time.  To back up my claim, Aruba Tourism has been running this commercial. You might have seen it:

So it came as a HUGE surprise when we lost a day and a half of our vacation to pouring rain. Torrential downpours. Which went into that night and continued into half of the next day. No, I’m not asking you to feel sorry for me that I was in the tropics and it rained. But I did think it would give you a laugh.
:thatsfunny:

Warm wishes for a Happy Birthday go out to Plotmonkey pal Dayle Gorsline today! We hope you have a fabulous, fun-filled day!

She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

:happybd: Happy birthday Dayle! Hope it’s a great one.

Aruba. Sigh. My dream tropical vacation. One day I’ll get there. What places do you recommend, Carly? Restaurants, etc? Do they have a specialty drink?

Stacy, we stay at the Hyatt and there’s a restaurant called Marandi on the beach and we eat there TWICE! It’s that good and beautiful. The scenery is just to die for. If you can ever swing it, I highly recommend it.

:happybd: a day late to Barbara Jo and right on time to Dayle.

Carly, it never rains in southern California, either, or the desert, but the last time I was there, I drove through flash floods and snow. I think I’m a weather jinx! :rotfl1:

Glad you had a great time!

Sounds like a wonderful trip even with the rain. I’ve never been to Aruba, but I’ve heard it’s a great place to visit.

Oh, :rain … as I look out my window the clouds are currently releasing a soft drizzle, which is fine until I have to walk to class in an hour… :crysad

Carly, I’m glad you had a relaxing time despite the sporadic weather – although isn’t there something different about the rain in a tropical place compared to the rain where you live…? When I was in Hawaii a few years ago and it rained, I found it to be very peaceful :meditate: but maybe that also had to do with the vacation mindset and not having anything important that the weather would delay or make troublesome.

    Have a great Thursday everyone!

    Hi Carly,

At least you go to spend the day and a half inside a hotel. Last Christmas, my mother-in-law took the lot of us down to Cancun for the week of Christmas. We were set to leave on the 22nd, arrive at night, sleep in the hotel room and then start our vacation. Well, the snow and fog had other ideas! :freezin

We would have spent twelve hours in the airport waiting to leave for Cancun if it weren’t for some friends of the family who came down with their mini-vans to pick all 18 or so of us up!

Yes it might be a story, I would have preferred to in the room though, and it rained for an entire day too :rain! But see, the rain wasn’t so bad because at least we were there and we were able to have some of the covered tables to ourselves to play cribbage under!

Aruba is one of the places I have always wanted to get to, so I am jealous, very jealous!

    Carrie

Carly, you know that old saying “Into each life a little rain must fall”. :rain While it was raining I hope you relaxed, took a nap, read a book! :winking:

Carly isn’t that always the way? It reminds me of the fact that city I live in can definitely have a bit of the 4 seasons in a single day but when it comes to hosting the Rugby Sevens every February regardless of what the weather report says or what the weather looks like it’s going to do first thing in the morning it is always gorgeous. It kind of makes the locals look like liars when we say that the weather isn’t always that good.

Dont you just hate that? You plan, and plan for a much needed vacation, but you can’t plan the weather! :rain But if I’m being honest I really love the rain. :hide: I like to sit by the window with a blanket and just watch the rain fall, its very relaxing, of course if I was on a tropical island I guess I could find better ways to relax…lol
    Welcome home Carly!

It is a bit funny that the torrential rain did happen during your time there.
