Here I am, a little over one month from deadline and too many pages to go. I am planning my daughter’s April Bat Mitzvah (Read: BIG MASSIVE PARTY only second to wedding if you’re not Jewish and unsure what this means). I have high maintenance children. Higher maintenance dogs. (Buddy is recovering from another lump surgery – he’s FINE – and Bailey is just herself. Enough said!). And I read an email on my Wheaten-L loop, saying that they need a temporary foster home for two male wheatens – asking if someone could take one. So, I email my husband, and I ask him clearly, “Would you like to foster a male wheaten who has nowhere to go?” And I forward the email just in case he needs further explanation. He says “Yeah.” Now I think he’s been hit in the head by a soup can (he owns a supermarket and can often be found stocking shelves). So I ask again. Are you sure? You’ll take a dog? Again he says “Yeah.” So, knowing I am insane, I email the WIN (Wheaten Rescue) people and say, we’d consider taking one of the boys. But they need to know we go away for the holidays and would have to put them in a kennel during vacation. They email me back, so I turn to hubby and say, “they said they’d FLY the dog to us!”
And he says, WHAT DOG?
I say, the dog we said we’d foster. And he says, I DIDN’T THINK WE’D BE TAKING POSSESSION OF THE ACTUAL DOG.
Apparently he thought we’d be paying money to foster the dog. Or some such thing. :wallbanger
So I have to email the WIN people back and explain the misunderstanding.
They were understanding. I was mortified. And embarrassed. ![]()
Bah Humbug.

Warm wishes for a Happy Birthday go out to Plotmonkey pals Bunny B. & Michele Bernard today! We hope you have a fabulous, fun-filled day!

Carly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

Oh poor Carly! Sorry things didn’t work out with the Wheaton. Well, know in your heart you tried to do a really nice thing for someone else, but you have your family to consider too. You’re a good girl :)

Oh.. Carly. Feel free to vent about the B/M planning. You didn’t say is this your first B/M? My advice is to remember to ENJOY it. Even with all the craziness. :)
Have to laugh about your story of adopting a dog.

I laughed so hard I cried over this, my husband asked me if I was o.k.
That is so funny!!!!!!!!!!!

Carly, you should realize that husbands more often than not aren’t paying attention when we talk to them, or he just didn’t understand your e-mail properly. It was great of you though to want to take the dog in and take care of it. I’m sure they’ll find it a good home somewhere though.
By the way, hubby and I were on a Caribbean cruise the week of Thanksgiving and I read LUCKY CHARM—absolutely GREAT book. I devoured that book as much as the sunshine while on the cruise.
Have a good day all and Take Care!!!!!!!

Congratulations and Mazal Tov to your daughter, to you and your family. I went to my first Bar Mitzvah–for boys for those who don’t know–a couple of years ago. And I have to say that I would have made a very happy, contented Jewish girl if I had been born or raised Jewish. What a wonderful, wonderful tradition! I LOVE traditions. Love them, love them, love them. The Bar Mitzvah I went to was lovely. I enjoyed it immensely and hope I get invited to another one. I’d go in a minute. I’d also love to go to a Jewish wedding which I’ve never attended.
For those who don’t know, my step-dad was Jewish. He was THE best of men by the way. I remember enjoying all the Jewish holidays throughout the year with him and my mom. I also remember and miss the traditional Friday night meal with the blessing over the bread and the wine. I can still remember most of the blessings in Hebrew. But most importantly, I can remember him saying them, cutting the bread and sipping some wine.
Have a great day all. And Thank You, Carly for the stroll down memory lane.

It was a great thing to do for the little dog, and everyone is right it is a make thing to not fully pay attention when speaking/emailing. This type of misunderstanding happens at least once a week at my house. Good luck with the planning and not to worry you are not crazy just the world around you is.

Carly…
I ordered “LUCKY CHARM” last week (yes, I am a little slow…). I can’t wait!!
I think our husband’s are related. We were going to do this BIG renovation to our house. We got all of the information, had to postpone it due to my oldest moving to a new school (long story), etc., so we told the contractor, we’d do it this Spring (of 2009). Hubby agreed. I started making plans for the new addition and then we were talking a little about it a month ago and he goes, “we’re not doing it now”. O-K-A-Y. The whole point of it so he could get an office (and the boys a playroom). There’s no real reason we’re not doing it. I told him then he’ll have to live with all of the toys in the tv room for a few more years (I was going to move it to the addition). Mine

But how sweet of you to be willing to foster the dog and I can only imagine how you felt e-mailing the people back. Your heart was in the right place and I’m sure they knew that.
Good luck on getting the words written and on planning the Bat Mitzvah!!

Awwww. Poor Carly. :grouphug (here’s hoping *group hug* emoticon works). Good luck on the deadline and I’m sorry about the Wheaton. All three of my critters are rescues and every time I see a pup in need, I want to bring it home. The
would disown me if I did, though.
Good luck on the Bat Mitzvah. Have you seen the Jeremy Piven movie, “Keeping Up with the Steins”? We had friends who fell into that with their son’s Bar Mitzvah several years ago. When the movie came out, my husband and I couldn’t stop laughing. Enjoy your family!

OMG! Carly that is so funny! :rotfl I love that, “What dog?”
It makes you wonder how it is that men and woman can see and hear things sooooo differently!
PS Just wondering…How come no Christmas/ Hanukkah icons?

Good luck with the Bat Mitzvah! I know all your hard work will pay off and y’all will have a wonderful time.
So sorry about you not being able to foster the weaten. You had your heart in the right place and I’m sure they will find someone else to step in. Good luck with the deadline!

Sorry about the misunderstanding! Glad they were understanding! And thanks for sharing the story with us! :yumturk (my little one picked this one)

The planning of a huge party scares me. I am glad you are up to it.
You know if you are not in the mood to write then I doubt you would get much done while other things are on your mind. So you plan away then sit down and write when the moment is right.

Knowing Carly as well as I do, this is what I want to do to HER
for even considering bringing in yet another distraction in her life! Thank God Phil came to his senses and realized what he’d agreed to BEFORE they shipped the dog out! Could you imagine his expression if he came home from work and was greeted not by two big dogs, but THREE of them?
Hopefully the Wheatons will find another loving home where they can be fostered!

What is it with Men? I know it is a question that has been pondered by women for centuries. I wonder if it has someting to do with the postion and alignment of the stars and the moon?

All I can say is hysterical!

Janelle, that’s so hysterical. I’d LOVE to see Phil’s face if that had happened!

Carly, good luck planning the Bat Mitzvah and the deadline on your book. It sounds like your plate is very full!! Your story about DH saying yes & then ?? made me laugh! My ex had a bad habit of not really listening to me!!! Remember the Bat Mitzvah should be enjoyable for you as well as your guests.

Carly that is so funny that is something I think most women go through it seems like one time or another we find out our husbands didn’t listen. I am sure the call to the society was very hard. :dog1:
Hope you do good with the Bar Mitzvah hope it works out good for you.

Good luck with planning the BM, Carly.

PS: For anyone who’s asked–we are TRYING to get Christmas icons, there’s some kind of technical glitch.

Oh Carly that is a very cute story. I’m with Janelle, I could imagine my husband’s face under the same circumstances. Hugs for being so thoughtful but you sound like your hands are full already.
Have fun planning the B/M.

I have spent all day on a train to NYC, at an eye appt and back again in the crappy ice and cold and wind, with my neighbor.
Thanks I needed that Carly!!
Hubby sent me 2 emails with Doxies up for adoption. He should know better- the 3 dogs and 1 part time dog and the cats are enough. What does he think I am- superwoman??? For god’s sake, I can’t find my backyard as it is, they have killed any grass and made it a big mud pile when it rains. On the plus side, the part-time dog usually eats the poo out there, so I don’t have to clean it up as often. Actuallly, that’s a plus for me, not my step-son.
everyone keep their fingers crossed that the ice doesn’t bring down the power lines. Hubby is on 12 hour shifts for now. :yikes:
