Black Friday Carly Style
Carly Icon

Who wants to hit stores and make yourself crazy shopping these next few weeks?:biggroan The economy is a mess, there is less money to spend, and shopping will be very thought out this year, for all of us. I hope you were able to put all that aside and enjoy Thanksgiving with someone you care about, friends, family or pets!
:bigturk :jiveturkey: :fourturks :givethaks :gobbler: :givethanks :sleepturk :yumturk :turk2

Because I’m grateful for the following things: my family; my dogs; my friends; and my readers;
one lucky person is going to have $100 to spend this holiday season.

I like to choose Amazon because it lets you buy books which we all love, or something else that you may want or need. I hope whoever wins, you’ll spend it on yourself but if it just helps ease the holiday crunch in general, I’ll be happy! :cooldance:

So tell me what you’re thankful for this day after Thanksgiving and I’ll randomly pick a winner and post on Sunday! :givethaks

Note from Julie: While your out shopping for all your loved ones, don’t forget to pick up a little something for yourself…like a copy of Phantom’s Touch! Or, are you like me and would rather pull out your fingernails with pliers than shop on Black Friday? The bookstores shouldn’t be too busy…do a quick run and get yourself a copy of Phantom’s Touch for a little weekend reading! I’m thankful for all the Plotmonkey readers, who have been instrumental in keeping all of us in the book business. We’re all very thankful for you.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Warm wishes for a Happy Birthday go out to Plotmonkey pals Georganna Palmer, Catslady, and Kim H. today! We hope you have a fabulous, fun-filled day!

Carly

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

We’ve had a rough year in our household, I think because of that our family has even more to be thankful for this year. My #2 became paralyzed (from the waist down) in April due to a virus attacking her spine, spent a month in the hospital, we were just informed on Tuesday she can now lose the cane she’s been walking with. She went from having nothing, to getting everything but her right foot back, so even if that foot doesn’t “wake” up, she can live a pretty normal life. We are definitely thankful for that. We are thankful for our family, and our friends, our stores and our home. But what it boils down to, when we did our tradition of going around the table yesterday, everyone was just plain thankful for being together, healthy and whole.

We’ve had a rough year economically. We rely on rental income, so if people don’t pay, we’re in trouble meeting our financial obligations. We only get 4 rents, in November we evicted 1 tenant who owes us a year’s rent. Now we have 2 who owe us for 2 months each. I don’t have the money to pay the taxes!! It’s really scary!!

I am always thankful for the things that I am fortunate enough to have- a great hubby, a daughter who drives me crazy (and I couldn’t imagine my life without her), a herd of step-kids and grandkids who I sometimes despair of but then surprise the heck out of me, that my mom is still here (but miss my daddy like crazy), my friends and the zoo. :dog1: :cat: :dog1: :cat: :dog1: :cat:

Hubby spent most of Wed and Thurs sick- so even though we spent the day with the kids, we ended up back at our hotel early and he has been sleeping for more than 12 hours. Don’t think we will be going with the grandkids to the circus, but as long as he is feeling better, that is ok.

That is always the biggest thing that I am grateful for- that he is still here and that, so far, we have had 11 years together, bumpy or not. With the big age difference, I am thankful for everyday together, knowing it could end anytime. You don’t think of that when you are younger and married.

Of course, I told him that he would do anything to make me drive in NYC today of all days.

I have so much to be thankful for! Family, friends, family friends who are family now, critters, stumbling my way into the Jungle and all the terrific folks here, seeing the realization of my dreams of being a published writer finally coming true….

Mainly, I’m thankful that I wake up each morning and face a whole new journey each day. Good, bad, happy, sad, wonderful or ugly, life is an adventure and I pray I get to live it well.

I am thankful for my family, my kids, and my parents still here to enjoy their grandkids growingup. I am thankful for our service men, my husband and friends included that gave up their thanksgivings and holidays, and the next year to be away defending our rights to celebrate the way of life we have. And im thankful for all my wonderful friends, in person and online that tried their best to make the holiday season and this deployment a bit easier on me and my kids.. my life is blessed that way..
the holiday has been very rough so far.. my christmas money went for a new refrigerator that bit the dust and hopefully gets delivered today or tomorrow..hubby only gets paid once a month so now i have to wait til mid december to christmas shop .. oh well.. wasnt up to black friday anyway… I spent the last two days with a very nasty stomach virus, so i have not enjoyed any good food etc.. nasty bug is hanging on for a vengeance..i am at least up and about today.. on that note i guess a good side affect of htat is i have lost 3 pounds in 2 days..
and of course im missing hubby dearly now.. hes been gone since september….and will be heading to Iraq anytime now.. :boohoo:

I’m grateful for a job right now. I took a huge chance by leaving a stable job in August so I could make a move to Texas. For once in my life I wasn’t moving for anyone else. I was moving just for me. I had a place to live but no job. Normally that wouldn’t be a problem but of course the economy tanked shortly after I got here. Ouch!

Finally got employed but had to miss going home for Thanksgiving and won’t make it home for Christmas either (yes, I’m feeling a wee bit sorry for myself). Still I’m grateful for the ability to make some money and pay some bills. :) And having some extra so I can buy books. LOL

Although times are tough for so many people now, I am still thankful for what my family does have. We are so fortunate to have good health, wonderful children, friends and neighbors who we enjoy spending time with. We love to get together with others and just spend time visiting or helping one another when needed. My husband and I enjoy volunteering to help others thru various groups, especially during the holidays. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day this year and helped serve 195 people at a local senior citizen community; it was great fun, especially visiting with so many of the interesting people later on. What a marvelous fountain of knowledge these great citizens are.

There’s a lot to be thankful for this year – family & friends, the ones who put up with me. My health (I had a minor incident earlier this year). Having a job when so many others do not. The troops, who are always watching over us. I worry about them more this time of year, being away from home.

And to those braving the stores today – you’re way braver than me! I’m staying away from the malls. I was out this morning around 8:30 and already parking lots were almost full. Mind-boggling…

We’ve had a rough year, but everyone has. I admit there’s been a few times when I just wanted to call it quits, give up on life, love, all of it because it was just too damn hard. But I read emails from my friends, hearing about all the bad things that’s happened to them. And I’m reminded that even in the lowest of lows and the biggest tragedies and sadness, there’s always a bright light. We just have to stop long enough to see it. I’m grateful for everyone in my life, and as strange as it may seem, the thing I’m most grateful for right now, is Mother Nature. Strange I say that, yes, but this is my reason. No matter what’s going on in the world, She always stays the same. Her constant changing unchanging has kept me sane. A few nights ago, I looked up into the stars for the first time in months. And I was so in awe of the simplistic beauty around me that I was taken away. It made me stop thinking, stop stressing for a while. And I was reminded that there’s beauty in everything, I just had to look for it. I’d forgotten that and I was thankful of the reminder as I stood there looking up at the stars. I was reminded that I’m just one small person in the midst of things, and it made me amazingly not feel so alone. Because everyone else knows just how I feel. I thank God for the natural wonders around us.

I’m thankful that I have family and friends who are, if not in good health, at least on the mend, that we have a warm home and plenty to eat, and that when I called my parents and they asked what I want for Christmas, I honestly couldn’t think of anything material. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving!

I am first of all thankful for my 4 kids – who are all happy, healthly, and doing great in school!! I think the next in line – if not tied with first – are my parents – who without their help and financial support – we would not be in the home we are today, in a great school district, enjoying life. My kids are slowly learning that having less is, in reality, having more – without all the gadgets – we spend time together as a family – getting to really know one another.

I am thankful that I have the opportunity to go back to school and get an education (now only praying that the job will be out there when I graduate). I am thankful for my online friends – as one who doesn’t get out a lot and am not able to make “real” friends – my online friends are there for me anytime I need them, need to chat, need to vent, or need to celebrate!!!

I try not to be thankful just at Thanksgiving – I try to find things to be grateful about throughout all the weeks of the year. But it is nich to have a time to sit back and reflect as to what is the most important!!

Flyboy is home and we get to spend our 10th anniversary together (2 weeks from now)- which means no deployments… so far.
The kids are happy, smart and healthy.
We have jobs to pay the bills.
I have close friends and family that provide comfort, support and unconditional love.
I am also thankful for all the great people I have met through the blogs and all the authors that write so I have things to read!

No shopping for me today- I view that sort of thing like torture- hot pokers, stakes, and skull bashing would be preferable and there is not a thing on earth that could make me participate in Black Friday!

Well, of course family and kitty. . . but in the end, although we hoped to be out of this location by the end of the year and the economy has been quite tight, we just keep looking at it a day at a time, and remember all things get better, and the house is still standing and all that sort of thing – and in the end, we always just try to look positivity that next year will always be better than this year. If that doesn’t work, just look at it in this way – we have each other, and our health, and can always pick up a book to read! :)

With our financial difficulties this year. With our home foreclosed on,husband lost his job and hasn’t worked in 9 months, I’ve been a stay at home mother for fourteen years. I been unsuccessful finding a job even Target won’t hire me because of no current work experience, countless job applications and my resume give out everywhere to no avail. I have been to the end of my rope and almost given up hope these days. It is so hard to keep the spirit but I am so thankful for my two healthy beautiful children and they are the reason I haven’t had nervous breakdown by now. I feel I have lost everyting but when I step back and look at the big picture I have everything I could possibly need or want withou the material things in life. I am so thank-you for the unconditional love from my children. May everyone be blessed this holiday season and remember to appreciate the small things not just the material things in life.

Also, thankful that my gastric bypass in August has gone well and I have gone from a size 30+ to currently at size 18…and have cut back on the diabetes meds from 2000mg/day down to 500mg/day & hopefully will be fully off of it soon… :fourturks

I am thankful for so many things. Most of all my family and friends. But also having a job, having a roof over my head and food to eat.

Happy belated birthday Georganna, Catslady, and Kim H.!

I’m Thankful for my family, As I posted a few weeks ago we were hit by a drunk driver and we were very lucky that no one was seriously injured or killed. My two kids were in the car as well as my musband and myself and it was at that moment when I smelt tha alcohol and later when the police found two vodka bottles, then reading in the newspaper her blood alcohol level was .273 that I realize how fast things can change. So I’m Thankful for everything and everyone I have in my life. :gobbler:

I am sorry I am late. I worked yesterday at my part time job at B. Daltons. Sadly my store is closing in January. Now their will be no bookstore in any local mall. have to go to the big stores now for books. Its just sad.

I am thankful for good friends and ramily. We have had a rough year with my dad being diagnosed with Alhzeimers (sp) we have found him a great place and its really help with the worry. The first place was a nightmare. I am grateful for the wonderful people that care for him.

While we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in New Zealand, I’m thankful that my family is safe and healthy (even with my aunt, uncle and cousin stuck in Thailand). It seems like everyone is thankful for their families. From what I’ve read online about Black Friday – I’m glad that we have very few shopping days that are similar here.

I can’t believe how generous all of the authors are here.

After getting out of bed at 3am and pushing my way through a crowd of crazy shoppers, I was able to find some really great deals. I got a lot of get gifts and most of my Christmas shopping is done. But the thing I was most thanksful for at the end of the day was sleep :)
