Election Day!
Leslie Icon

Well, it’s finally here. The day we finally get to stop seeing the ad nauseum TV commercials about who we should (or shouldn’t) vote for, and why. I, for one, will be very glad when it’s all over…I’ve had as much politics as I can stomach for another four years.

Anyway, I am deep in writing insanity, so I’m keeping this short and simple with a one word message.

And as an added incentive to do so, here’s a special giveaway. I’ll give away two books. Just leave a message here saying you went out and cast your ballot (no political debates, though…lol) and I’ll pick two random commenters to win the books.

Here’s to the U.S.A. Today is one of the many reasons I am so proud and happy to live here. And let’s all remember, we are not red states or blue states, we are all Americans.

Meaning we’re all purple.
:winking:

LeslieLeslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

My polling place is my son’s elementary school, so I’m dropping him off in half an hour and then heading straight to the polls! I teach eighteen and nineteen year old college freshman and sophomores and I spent way too much of class last night trying to convince them that voting is a privilege and a responsibility. Less than half my classes are even registered :sosad: despite the fact that I offered extra credit a few weeks ago to encourage them to do just that!

At 6:30 this morning I was the first person to vote in my polling place. My polling place is always a little crazy not enough space too many voters and not really organized well. Luckily for me I was out early and now I can go on with my day. The kids are out of school today so I think I am taking two of them to see High School Musical 3. My son will be 6 tomorrow and he has wanted to see the movie. Of course my 7 year old daughter wants to see it also. Have a great day everyone! :jumpleaf

I was number 36 to cast my ballot – amazing since I normally vote midday to late afternoon and my number is usually 50 to 80. Sad. The DD and I actually had to stand in line for about 20 minutes.

We had early voting in my state, so I already voted. Which was convenient, since I have a doc’s apt this morning, another one this afternoon and class this evening (good thing it’s my day off from work).

Even with early voting the lines have been very long. My husband and I voted last Friday after work. As I’m headed downtown I’m thinking it wasn’t so smart, most people are probably doing the same right after work. I couldn’t believe my luck when I had 3 parking spaces right in front of the main doors to cityhall waiting for me take my pick. And the line wasn’t even that long.

    Hi all~
Well, my civic duty is done for today. I voted at 7:50 this am. I was #119 in my precinct to vote. I couldn’t believe how busy it was – I circled the school twice before I found a spot. I live in a city (Peabody, MA) that gives the kids the day off from school because of everyone coming into the school to vote. My nieces are thrilled, of course. Me, I thought I was avoiding the long lines by voting early. (Jenn, High School Musical 3 was pretty good! I took my 8 year old niece last week to see it – we actually debated which one was better 1,2 or 3 with #1 winning but #3 coming in a close 2nd!)

I voted. Just got back. My husband waited an hour this morning, but I zipped right through. It’s a little chilly and overcast, which means the Floridians will come out because we won’t be baking in our usual heat. I hear there’s mild weather in places like NY, Chicago, Philadelphia. That always makes a difference, I think!

It’s a catchy tune and very cute. I don’t think any issues are addressed but, who cares?! The current adds don’t mean anything. Bring back the showman ship!

We made it a family event. My son is old enough to vote now, so we all went together.

    Wow. Just wow.

A historic day indeed…whether you like him or not, what an amazing show of progress from a country that still had segregated schools in MY own lifetime.

    Congratulations President-Elect Obama!

I’m not in the US, but we have elections in 3 days where I am. I can’t wait for the elections to be over with.

I’m still in a little bit of shock over the results of your elections. Good on all the Americans here for voting today.

I voted at 8 AM tuesday morning in Florida. Went right in, NO WAIT!! It was a perfect voting experience. We had paper ballots this year after the electronic snafus of the last few major elections!! I think early voting helped ease the pressure.
