No, I did not do anything specifically bad to atone for. At least not that I can remember at the moment but I’m sure there are many things to apologize for! Today is YOM KIPPUR, the Day of Atonement in the Jewish Religion. It’s a day when we atone for our sins over the past year and promise to do better in the next.
On Rosh Hashonah it is written (our fate for the next year) and on Yom Kippur it is sealed (decided). For anyone curious, here’s a nice summary (I can’t vouch for its accuracy but it seemed right).

I’m not going to post as I don’t work on this holiday as it is the holiest day of the year for me.
But I’ll leave you with good wishes for the coming year!

Carly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

Thank you for sharing this Carly. I’m always interested in learning more about one’s faith. I think it’s a very important part of who people are and should be recognized.
An Easy Fast to you.

None of us are perfect, so to set aside a day to concentrate on the improvement of our lives and spirit is wonderful. Thanks for explaining!

Good morning jungle friends and :monkey :monkey :monkey :monkey,
I hope that all is well. I couldn’t get back yesterday: Day parent teacher conferences…
Carly, I hope that you have a great day today. Thanks for the link for the explanation of what today means.
Has anyone ever read The Ladies Auxiliary by Tova Mirvis? It was an excellent read, and I got to learn a great deal about Judaism, and the role of women. It is quite interested. My favorite character was the protagonist…if you get the chance, check it out. Gotta go wake the boys up…ttyl…
Peace and love,

Shanah tovah, Carly and the rest of the board.
I’ve apologized to my kidlets and dh. The High Holy Days do give one time to pause and think inward.

To all of the Jewish faith here, may your fasts be easy. In many ways, Judaism seems so much more in touch with its faithful. Thanks for sharing, Carly. May all of us take the time today to reflect upon our lives, to work on the areas that need improvement, and to give thanks for the good things we have.
