I’m a Traitor
Carly Icon

The kids went back to school today!
PARTY AT MY HOUSE!
JUST KIDDING, LOL.
But yes, its a huge huge relief to be back on a SCHEDULE.

*****************
Ok back to today’s regularly scheduled programming:
I have a confession to make. I am horrified to post this, but I am a traitor. :boohoo: After much angsting, much trying hard not to do it, living with dropped calls from AT&T, viewing the dreaded pinwheel while no mail “pushed” to my inbox,:wtf:, I had to make the switch. I gave up my beloved iphone in exchange for corporate conformity. I turned in my iphone for a Blackberry. Oh the shame! :hide: I hope I don’t burn in hell. :flamer:

OK seriously, I had no choice. After all the hours in line to buy them, after a year of owning one and extolling its virtues, hiding my frustrations, if I wanted a device that actually worked consistently, I had to get a Blackberry. The last straw came when Apple issued it’s update to “fix” the iPhone issues, I plugged it in, and after waiting through the update process, I received an error message each of the 5 times I tried. :fryingpan: Worse, because of the dropped calls, for the last year I kept my Verizon regular phone for calls, so I was constantly switching between two devices. :wallbash: I was going insane. :ohno:

I was really worried about the learning curve since Apple’s iPhone is so intuitive but I’m a techie and within 24 hours, I was fine. Most of my local friends have the Blackberry so I have many BBM contacts. But I seriously miss my APPS. The one click to the weather, to MLB baseball scores, to photos, although I see I can play with my Blackberry and add things too. I already downloaded a screen to make my icons look more Apple like. At least I feel more at home with the home screen.

If you know me from this blog, you know I am an Apple junkie. I watch for new products, I’m first in line (or almost) to buy them, and I think Steve Jobs is God. Well you know what I mean. But let me be clear: I STILL LOVE APPLE. I just think the iPhone had to many things going against it RIGHT NOW. AT&T for one, rushing out the second generation before perfecting Mobile Me, and putting out a device before they were sure they could get it right

I still think the iPhone is the way of the future. I still believe I’ll own one again. But not as long as its on the AT&T network and I can’t choose my own, and not until the kinks have been worked out and the email and the push technology is perfected in a subsequent generation … not just with tweaking software updates. I’m SO sad to have switched. :ohno:

But for those of you who think this means I’m a traitor and a conformist, rest assured, I purchased a Blackberry that represents the essence of Carly.

It’s the :applause: PINK Blackberry Curve. :applause:

Did I mention it’s PINK?
*********
And NOW the question: Do you think I’m horrible for betraying my faith in Apple this way? (Oh, the shame!)
:drama:

hey Carly! No I definitely don’t think you’re a traitor. There’s loyalty and then there’s blind, silly loyalty. The iphone wasn’t working for you, and if you need reliable, consistent service, then you need a device that you can count on. Like you said, you think you will own an iphone again someday, but it has to be ONE THAT WORKS.

Good luck with your pink Blackberry. It’s so cute!

You are NOT a traitor!!!!!!!!!! It’s nice to see a loyal person, but NOT a traitor! And PINK!? How totally cool is that! I’m jealous of that….
Enjoy your “back to school” party – sorry I can’t be there!

LOL…. we are not a APPLE friendly house. Eldest has MAC because it was suggested by the school but now that is the backup. Jobs has done a great job of reinventing the company but grimace at the MAC vs PC commercials.

So for me you aren’t a traitor. :) We are very attached the Verizon network here. We’d go broke with all the text messaging etc… the kidlets do with family and friends on network. :)

Yay, for school! I threw a huge party when kidlet went back to school. For years I beat myself up for not being one of the moms who got all sad and weepy when the little darlings went back to school. But I finally quit doing that and just celebrated the way I’ve silently always done! I need alone time, lots of alone time, and I just don’t get any when he’s home (especially w/hubby’s limited work schedule).

As for the iPhone. No, you’re not a traitor. It’s sounds like you’ve been more than patient and they’ve not delievered you a quality product/service. My oldest son has been working every angle he can with us, trying to get the new iPhone. I’m copying/pasting your story and e-mailing it to him right now. Enjoy your PINK Blackberry!

First and for most I need to say Thank you to the plotmonkeys I received my San Fransisco basket apparently my 8 year old daughter didn’t get the memo that I won it cause she wants it. lol Thanks again It is very cute and the chocolate good. I don’t think you are a traitor. you will learn to use the curve and you will get use to it they do a lot too. If you think you are going to miss standing in line for hours or the release of the new phone just watch for the release of products that attract long lines you can stand there and then when you get to the front of the line say I’m a recovering apple I phone addict the need to stand in line. :cooldance:

Its finally final! Yay!! I think the link to my blog is under “news” :rotfl1: And I’m not sure where else because I haven’t completely familiarized myself with it. Thanks!!

I don’t think you are a traitor at all. It would be one thing if the iPhone actually worked properly and you passed it up for a Blackberry. But considering you had to keep your old phone to make up for the iPhones missed/dropped calls I think you are just being wise. Why pay for two phone bills when you only need one.

That said, I LOVE the pink Blackberry. Pink is my favorite color too, and my Blackberry is arriving in the mail today but they didn’t offer pink, only Red, Black or Silver. BUMMER! :(

I don’t think you are a traitor at all. I know lots of people that have AT&T cell service that can’t use phones in certain areas, even without the iphone. I’m one of those who would love an iphone, but won’t get one as long as it is exclusive to AT&T(I’ve been with Verizon forever and have great coverage). I’ve been looking at getting a blackberry when I get my next phone, but not sure if I’ll go the the blackberry or one of the touch screen phones. Still doing the research. I will say that my next laptop will be a MAC. I was on my friend’s over the weekend and loved it way more than my dell. Must start saving now!

I am waiting until the iphone gets Verizon coverage also. AT&T just doesn’t work for our family. Not with 4 phones and one of them upstate with my mom who travels for work.

So no, you aren’t a traitor- just smart enough to know that the hype didn’t live up to its promise. Yet.

Daughter was accepted into Full Sail in Orlando, Fl yesterday and she has to get a Mac. She is over the moon. So I am sure I will really start to enjoy what the Mac has to offer too. I love my iPod touch, but am not tech savvy enough to really play with all the apps that are available.

As for kids going back to school- we used to watch my mom in the rear window of the bus jumping up and down with joy. I did the same thing. Love my kid, but god it was nice to have a schedule again and some time to ME!!! :rotfl1:

Boys went back to school on Tuesday. I miss them (I am so weird), but it is so nice to have 2 1/2 hours to myself (that’s how long youngest is in preschool; oldest and middle boy are in full time). We haven’t adjusted to the new full day schedule (it’s whacky from 4-6 around here)…I am scared to think of what it will be like when activities start…oddly, it will be nice to get back to the ‘routine’.

As far as the Iphone, I don’t think you are disloyal, I think you are finding what works for you. For some reason, most of the moms in my moms group now have iPhones…it’s the new status symbol…I wish I could figure those things out.

I have a Blackberry Pearl and I’d really love to get an iPhone because of all the cool stuff. I’m already using AT&T network which works fine for me. But I just don’t know. I also thought about upgrading to a Blackberry Curve. I’m still pondering……. What to do. What to do.

I think you need something that’ll fit your needs, no matter what it is.

I think you do what you gotta do, though it isn’t always the fun thing. Being a traitor is someone who changes to another side without any emotions, and you feel bad about having to do it. That’s not a traitor. I understand though. I’ve had to hold off on getting one of the iphones. Maybe like you said, when they get it all worked out I’ll look back into it. I currently go through AT&T right now and they’re terrible with the dropped calls thing. It irritates me. But for my area, it’s all there is, so I deal with it. Your Blackberry is really cool and I like the color.

Well I am so not going to say anything bad about AT&T !@#$%^

I sell verizon when I am working :rotfl1: soon very soon!

I love the pink curve and the !@#$% company only has a 2 year

contract with apple and then Verizon should be able to get it.

Verizon does so much testing (spoken from experience rather than

brainwashing) they really do produce quality phones and the verizon

network is without a doubt extensive. I think you did a lot for AT&T

and they let you down so you are justified. I just bet apple is :wallbash:

that they went with them. It has certainly affected them as well.

    Quick update on my reading:

Just read Nights in Rodanthe…Nicholas Sparks.

It’s a sweet story and true to Sparks, a tear jerker.

I’m not sure how they will do the movie but with Richard Gere and

Diane Lane I may go with Kleenex in hand. I won’tspoil it for you.

    Have a nice day!

Carly, you are not a traitor. If a product you have isn’t living up to its potential or the promises the company made they need to fix the problem or you have to buy the product that works for you. I love some of the technology now available but I’m not a techie! The opinion I am about to voice puts me in a minority, I think!! My own personal opinion is that people are too connected. I see people out walking talking on cell phones, listening to an IPod, ignoring the person they are with because they are talking on the cell!!! Many people today don’t know how to be alone, or enjoy just listening to the birds, look at the flowers or spend time with themself. As I said, just my humble opinon.
A pink Blackberry, very cool! Enjoy a product that fulfills its promise. :monkey

Definitely not a traitor, Carly, just like everyone else has said. Your loyal to Apple, but you need something that works. You shouldn’t sacrifice service for loyalty. It’ll get better once all the kinks are worked out and you’re able to choose your own network instead of being forced to use AT&T.

Nope, you’re not a traitor at all. We all know and believe you :heart1: Apple, but this was a smart choice. They’ll get it right eventually and then you’ll be the proud owner of the one that’ll work all the time, everytime.

BB’s are great, even though they don’t have all the fun stuff the iPhones have. Still, you won’t miss calls or emails.

I’m sure that Apple will forgive you. Eventually the powers that be over in the Apple Universe will realize that they picked the wrong carrier for their awesome product. All new devices have kinks but the iphone was crazy. My husband and I recently switched to Macs and I will never go back! The only thing that stopped us from having iphones was AT@T. Good luck with the Blackberry!

I have recently turned into a semi-Apple fanboy… Notice that I capitalized Apple as it should be. I bought a 6 year old iBook from ebay and it was love from the very beginning.
Now the iPhone…. I wanted one of the first ones. You never but the first generation of anything. I expected them to be buggy with a whole lot of software updates. I watched, waited and wanted. Man o’ man.. If I could get one of those things. I studied everything on the Apple website and could operate this thing before I even had one. Well, the second generation came out, the 3G. OK, Chuck, wait until the first update and get it! That was Tuesday and I got mine on Thursday…. I was in love!!! This thing does everything but make coffee.
Now the love affair is over… On edge, I can’t use the phone where I used to be able to use the old one. 3G, forget it for calls; works well for pure data. WiFi, poor range.
Email, I fetch. It works pretty good. Keyboard is slow and difficult.
    IPod, works very well.
    Phone operation, slick!
Apps, only as good as the programming.
The problem is the network! On the Apple discussion board, it works great all over the world except for specific networks, US being one of them. The Sweeds tested phones and found them to be with in specs for all things that require the radios.
AT&T better get their act together instead of pointing at the finger of Apple that is pointing back. AT&T is giving themselves and Apple a bad reputation because their network is weak!
At this point, I am dis-satisfied with AT&T while Apple isn’t far behind because they are getting pulled down!

Carly — I’m a Mac person too, but if the iPhone didn’t work in your area, it didn’t work. Have you considered jailbreaking it? :)

Some folks find that the iPod Touch and a cell phone make a great combo. Use the WiFi on the Touch for (nearly) all the cool APPS and use the phone as a phone.
