HOT PROPERTY a New York Times Bestseller

Yes, it’s Thursday but as you all know, Janelle’s on the move, literally and figuratively, so I’m blogging in her place today. I’ve spoken to her and they are in Oregon and getting settled. It’s an exciting and scary time for them, so good thoughts for them, from all of us here in the jungle!

And now, I have NEWS I wanted to share: HOT PROPERTY hit the New York Times Bestseller List # 18 and USA Today Bestseller List # 57. I could not be more excited or grateful – especially to all of you who helped by purchasing!

Perception is an important part of a writer’s career, including how well we sell and how we are perceived by our fans and our peers. Certainly Kelly Ripa changed my life when she picked THE BACHELOR for her Reading with Ripa Bookclub in 2002. Five years ago almost to today. Missed the story? But for me, the interesting part came after: maintaining a career post Kelly Ripa. I always knew I’d never sell as many books as I did then without hard work and effort to find the readers who checked out The Bachelor out of curiosity and I went through hardcover successes (NYT Extended list) and career dips authors never discuss out loud. It’s been a building process or should I say a rebuilding process. This is the highest I’ve hit on the NYT Bestseller List since 2002/2003. Talk about perception. I’m betting that’s a shocker. I admit this because the one thing I pride myself on is honesty and integrity and I rebuilt these numbers with the help of a good solid group of people around me. Some have changed over the years, others – my agent, my Harlequin editor, and the Plotmonkeys have remained. I am so very lucky and grateful to have fantastic friends and people I work with; old and new. And then there are the most important people, YOU, the reader/buyer/the person who invests their heart in my books.

Wow Carly, you’re right. I just assumed you’ved maintained the same success level (or better) since Kelly Ripa’s bookclub (does she even still do it anymore???) There’s no doubt you work hard and put your all into each book, and you have a ton of fans who have you on their auto-buy list because of that.

Wow, Carly, that is wonderful news! I am so happy for you. And I remember you on Regis and Kelly. Because of that show, I went right out and got The Bachelor and fell so hard for that series that it’s still one of my all-time favorites. Incidentally, I was very disheartened when ABC came out with the series of the same name and I realized it was a dating show and not a movie about your book!

Major Congrats on the list!!! You so deserve this.

From the not yet published side, knowing the up’s and down’s of what to me is consider a big time author is so important. I think it helps to prepare us for the road to come. You do it and always have done it with such style.

One of my co-workers and I were talking a few weeks back and in her mind, writers never have any problems. They write, sell the book, eat bon-bon’s and everything in their lives is perfect. I told her, um, yeah, not so much. Writer’s have the same struggles everyone else does. She didn’t believe me.

Again, I’m so excited for you!!

Carly, as a “new” friend as of the lunch-to-end-all-lunches of a year ago this month, I am so proud of you and honored to know you. Personally, I don’t care about the numbers, how high or low or inbetween you’ve hit on the NYT list. I’m thrilled, thrilled, thrilled for you that Hot Property is #18 right now and I’m glad that my purchase helped make that happen for you. I can’t imagine what being on the NYT list must feel like.

The thing I will always remember is your generosity to me last year in helping me shape my story that I’m hoping will one day be a BLAZE, along with Janelle and Julie. No matter what happens in my career that day will remain one of my most treasured.

I can remember buying The Bachelor because it came so highly recommended. It’s now a well loved addition to my library. Read it at least 3 times. Still has alot of life left between those covers…..

First and for most congratulations on you best sellers list. I remember the day Kelly reviled her your book for her book club I hadn’t picked up a book in probably close to nine years at that point I remember saying to myself maybe I should start reading again, but that thought was short lived I was working and chasing around a two year old around. Another five years would pass before I would learn the name Carly Phillips. I’ve posted many times about moving to Florida and having the time to read again I bought a book and (Not a Carly Phillips book) I read that book and needed more so I went and got a library card and wasn’t sure if I’d keep it up I checked out a hot zone book Hot Number after reading I was hooked I can say that I’ve read all but one Carly Phillip’s book. (Over the Board Walk). I will tell you that besides the fact that the books are good the one thing that I was impressed by was that I wrote Carly an email to let her know that I enjoyed her books I was shocked that I received an email back which made her to me a very personal person to take time out of her schedule to email me back, not all authors do that. Any way congrats once again. Thanks for all the great books and great writing advice.

I remember when Kelly Ripa picked your book, I knew who you were because I had already read your book. People at work started talking about it so your fame became well known from that one book. I followed your stories after that but only discovered with surprise a few years back that you also wrote under another name and went in search for those books. Your success shows that it is possible to make dreams come true, as well as experiencing that fairy tale moment. Thank you for creating such wonderful stories.

Carly, I actually picked up your books from the Kelly Ripa’s book club selections…and I am certainly glad that I did.

I remember yuou being on Regis and Kelly. I can’t believe it has been five years. I even marked my calendar and bought the Bachelor so I wouldn’t miss the show.

I did the same for Vicki Lewis Thompson when she was on the book club.
I bought Nerd in Shining Armor when she came.
I hated that Kelly stopped doing the book club.

Well anyway I hope Janelle is surviving the move. I am so glad it is not me. Now if she was moving to Hawaii I would switch places.

Recently on eHarlequin there was a message by a reader saying she was disappointed in romance books. I took offense at that because I don’t think this particular reader has a clue how hard authors work to produce the books we read. I asked what was she expecting? I recommended that she try some other authors & that most of us read romance because we know there will be HEA but the journey to getting there is what makes us read. I can’t imagine getting tired or disappointed in any Plotmonkey books or many of my other favorite authors. Plotmonkeys keep introducting us to more!!! :monkey

I started reading books about 3 years ago and my sister gave me one of your books I think it was The Right Choice and since then you are an auto buy for me! My fav. is The Playboy.

I thought of the likely post-show letdown even as I watched you that day and wondered how you’d ever be able to match the boost you got. Well, you’ve done it, and I think it’s terrific. I love this site. I’ve been reading your books since Kelly. I’m mostly a summer reader and I like to read them in order within the series. Keep writing, and happy birthday, and I hope your neck is better. I wish I had some good advice.
