Girl Things …
Carly Icon

I have nothing major to discuss, so some odd thoughts …

I’m leaving for Vermont for two days with friends. One has a house there, so about six of us are going overnight. I’m looking forward to it. I won’t be able to blog but I’ll read your posts! I’ve never been on a girls overnight except for plotmonkeys … have you?

Janelle and I both saw (separately and on separate coasts) What Happens in Vegas … WHAT FUN! The best part is, LUCKY STREAK which I am writing now, has a what happens in vegas premise too! Has anyone else seen the movie yet? I love Cameron Diaz. Boy she must work out like crazy to have that body!

Survivor – I haven’t watched it much lately but my husband had it on so I’d keep an eye on it. While I’m typing this, the Survivor finale is on … it’s fun to watch how many stupid moves went on with people who should know better! I watched tonight and thought, Ozzie all scruffy after his time on the island was really CUTE! (anyone watch and see him?) I don’t know if he and Amanda had friendship or more (I missed it as I said) … they’re going to talk in a few minutes about it but I’m typing now … but when he said how much she deserved the money and he loved her and wanted more time on the island with her, well … he had me at I love you. Anyone else see this one?

So that’s that.
Leslie, you won, I forgot to say email me at: carlyphillips @ mac. com (no spaces) and send me your full name snail mail and preferred email for the Amazon gift card and congrats again!

See you all on Wednesday but I hope I left you with some fun things to chat about. I know I want to read the answers and I will, on my iPhone, on the 3 hour Vermont car ride!

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

I go away for a weekend every fall with 11 other friends to scrapbook in Deep Creek, MD (a resort-like area with a lake and state park). We have a great time chatting, watching movies, cooking fabulous meals, shopping, and sometimes, we even get some scrapbooking done like we are supposed to do. It’s a ladies only time and it’s a great way to take a break from the hustle of the life of a suburban soccer mom.
Carly, have a terrific time in Vermont! :cooldance:

My friends and I haven’t had a get away girls trip in a while. We do get together every month for dinner, but the get away, sleepovers are much more fun. For our “big 40″ we are all going to Vegas together. Our last sleepover was when a few years ago. With all the small children, it’s harder to get away together. Might have to put a sleepover on the schedule for over the summer.

I’ve never watched even one episode of Survivor so I don’t have a clue who you’re talking about. Never watch reality shows.

Have a great time on your trip, Carly.

The only overnight that I’ve been on with friends is the one I took last May with Brenda and another lady who I didn’t know very well. It was fun, I had a great time hanging out with Brenda for a couple of days–that was really cool–but Brenda and the other lady were pretty tight so…there were times I felt kind of unnecessary. But Brenda really liked the ranch I picked for us to go riding so I guess I did good.

I think it was because this other lady is really outgoing and I’m a much quieter kind of person. I guess Brenda felt more comfortable with her perhaps. At any rate, I was honored that Brenda would ask me to go. I’d go again in a New York minute if she ever asks me.

Have a terrific day all and a safe trip, Carly,

    Cher :snoopy:

Poor Stacy must still be exhausted from our girls weekend we all just got home from! Here it is after 9 and no sign of her at all.

This was actually the first time I have ever had a girls weekend and I have to admit I had a wonderful time, especially since most of us have never met face to face. But I think we all had a great, if very exhausting, time.

Cher- I know how you feel!! :winking:

    Have a fun time Carly!

The girl trip sounds fun! Have a great time!

I loved Ozzy and Amanda together. How totally ‘awww’ worthy was his speech about Amanda last night? Made my heart squeeze when he was ripping Parvati about losing 14 days with his woman. *sniff* :heart1:

Have fun in Vermont Carly! Hope you enjoy your “girls overnight” trip. Yes I did see Survivor and do watch it every season. I was touched by Ozzy’s speech to Amanda. I’m glad they’re still together. I was surprised by how much he put himself out there on tv.

I just returned from a week in Vegas yesterday, and it was a lot of fun. Vegas is definitely a unique place! Las Vegas makes a great setting for movies and books. Susan Anderson wrote 2 books about showgirls, and I really enjoyed them. I look forward to reading your book “Lucky Streak.”

Have fun on your trip, Carly!

The only real ‘girls overnight’ I’ve ever done was a 4-day trip to Vegas with my cousin a week after she turned 21 and a month before a turned 22. We had a blast!

As for reality TV, I don’t watch it. I completely boycott most of it and will only catch glimpses of it sometimes if someone else in my house has decided to watch it. At that point, I usually wander into a different room and get comfortable with a nice book…or homework.

Er…stupid work distractions. That ‘a’ should be ‘I’ because I was the one who turned 22, not a. *sigh*

I’ve never seen an episode of survivor either, but that sounds really cute. I love Girl’s Nights/Slumber Parties- haven’t had one in a while, but they were so much fun in college.

Only overnights I’ve experienced as an adult have been when I was in the hospital for baby
deliveries or surgeries or as a chaperone on band trips or at Project Prom nights!

My sorority sisters and I try to get together for a weekend retreat ever four years or so. We go back to our college town, visit the campus, tour the house, and pretend we’re still young!

I was just wondering, are all your Lucky books in reference to Vegas?
Hmm… Look forward to reading them!
