Carly’s Jungle Madness
Carly Icon

HAPPY FRIDAY!
Today I am giving away an autographed ARC (advanced reading copy) of HOT PROPERTY!!!!!
You know the drill. Comment for a chance to win! (sorry this week’s contest open to US resident’s only)

Let’s make it interesting. Who’s your favorite HOT ZONE character and why?

Carly

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

I think after reading yesterday’s excerpt, it just might be Amy. I love stories with quirky family members. And hers seem to be right up there. They remind me of mine, so I guess I can sympathize with them and identify.

    Off to work! :impatient:

Here I am, an avid historical romance reader, hanging my head in shame because I haven’t read any of the Hot Zone books. But, count me in to win this book since I am beginning to branch out to the contemps and I think I’ll be adding Carly’s books to my list of books-to-buy.

Micki is my favorite character, because I identify with her need to be seen as a woman and not just one of the guys. I was raised by my dad, so I learned about cars, sports, and rock music. This is cool to guys, but it tends to make them think of you as a buddy instead of a woman they could love.

Carly, you asked for it…Count me in for this prize okay…now, my story about why I like my fav character is kinda long, but I am going to share it anyway…

My favorite Hot Zone character is Michelle (Micki) Jordan. Micki’s my fav character because she is me, sans the man of my dreams okay. Like her, when I was young, I was a bit of a tomboy; always running around with the boys and being treated like one of them, so it was difficult for me to transition from being just one of the boys to being a “girl” they would notice and like as one. Unloke Micki, being a tomboy wasn’t a trait I “fell” into, let’s say, but rather one of a defense mechanism. Remember the phrase, “Know thine enemy” (I might have changed it a littl)? Life experience taught me at a very young age that women were nothing but prey to the predatory males of the species; cousins, uncles, brothers, fathers, grandfathers. It was not a very good lesson for an open, trustworthy and naive young girl to learn. So being a tomboy became my armor of choice, which stayed with me throughout my early years until the 10th grade. That’s wehn I fell hard for this bball player in my school. I held my feelings in for a while, asked questions about him without showing too much emotion, and whenever he was around, my heart and my stomach often switched places. I hd to figure out how to get him to notice me, and like Micki, I sought advice, not from a sister like Sophie, but rather from my best friend. Slowly my outer appearance changed; I started to wear make-up, doing my nails, styling my hair (loved ponytails), wearing skirts, dresses and shoes that were not sneakers. Frankly, I stopped dressing like a bum….lol…but I didn’t know how to shed the armor on the inside. Despite these outward changes, I feared being rejected and being ridiculed by my peers for trying to be a “girl.” At first, I wasn’t taken seriously, yep kids would point and laugh (only the adults really said anything positive, most of them were shocked to see me dressed like that); I was like wallpaper to many of the guys in my school for a long time, then one day HE saw me. I just about passed out from lack of oxygen. It took some time, I didn’t want to be like any of the other girls he went out with, he used ‘em and left ‘em, but once I got to know him, I realized that one his reputation as a lothario was fictitious and just for show. We ended up together for 8 wonderful years; throughout high school and college. By the end of my senior year in college, he pushed me away, which tore my heart out. He played on my sympathy (calling to say how much he missed me and he wanted me to come home, then he got jealous questioning if I was seeing anyone at school, then he said I shouldn’t have gone to college so far from him: left NYC and went to school in RI). He played on my feelings for him and tried to make me feel guilty for being so far away, I did feel guilty for being so far away you know. One day, he called to let me know that he couldn’t be with me any more and that he found someone else and my heart stopped. That was the end of my great love affair. After this experience, I locked my heart away and threw away the key. I told myself that I didn’t need any man. I was afraid of being hurt like that again; I guess I have a bit of Annabelle (Annie) in me too. So I reverted back to wearing my armor of choice; being one of the boys and playing the role of wallpaper. No wonder I am still alone…fear is a very powerful emotion, it definitely let you lose out on alot of things; but knowing that doesn’t cause me to release it…story for another time…

See Carly, I told you it was long…lol…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

Uncle Yank is my favorite character. He is such a great man to have raised three wonderful girls. Without Uncle Yank there would be no story to write, he is the glue that held the family together. I also really loved the back story of his relationship with Lola (who I also adore). I am truly excited about reading this book! The series has been wonderful so far! Hello Plotmonkeys and Jungle Jabbers,

    I’d love an ARC.

I found out today my right ankle is fractured so I see an orthopedic surgeon next Tuesday to figure out how to treat it. My doctor gave me a new scrip to hopefully squash this infection I’ve been fighting for the past week. One things for sure, I never do things half way. :giggle:

While I love the sisters and Uncle Yank, I would have to say my favorite character is Lola. She is a very smart, dedicated person and she stands by those she loves. She is not afraid to speak her mind and will fight when needed. The fact that she stood up to Uncle Yank and didn’t just give in says a lot about her character. She set aside her life and her love for Yank to raise the girls. Not many people would do that. There needs to be more people like her in the world.

While I have enjoyed all of the characters in the series, my favorite would have to be Lola. She’s spunky and smart and dedicated… and the list goes on. But the one thing that makes her my favorite is her LOVE… her love for Yank and for the girls! She knew a good thing when it was right in front of her and she didn’t let that get away! I think that is AMAZING! If only others were like that.

Well, take care and congratulations on the new book!! May it be that I win a copy or that I get to buy it… I soooo can’t wait to read it.

    *smooch*
    Connie

Oh yeah… HAPPY FRIDAY!! Yee Haw, the weekend is here!!

I liked Micki best because she’s someone I would want to be friends with. She was athletic and fun but wanted to be seen as a woman too. I really loved the way her character developed throughout her story. :cheer:
