Right Brain or Left Brain?
Julie Icon

I was surfing the other day and found this link at Hank Phillippe Ryan’s website. Check it out:

This is what it says at The Herald Sun, where I found the image.

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
“big picture” oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can “get it” (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

I saw it counter-clockwise at first, but I was able to change it around. So I’m initially and instinctively right-brained and but can switch to left? Hm…not sure if I think that’s true or not. But hey, it’s interesting. What about you?

We interrupt this blog entry in order to…PARTY!!!

  :cheer:   :cheer:

This just in from Publisher’s Lunch (which announces recent “deals” in the publishing world):

******
FICTION: WOMEN’S/ROMANCE
Leslie Kelly’s THE BLACK CATS, a series about a new FBI Cyber Action Team tracking serial killers through the Internet, including a vicious murderer attempting to weed out the gene pool by luring victims with the latest email hoaxes, to Laura Cifelli at NAL, in a nice three book deal, by Pamela Harty at The Knight Agency (world).

******

I know it’s going to be awhile before the books are out, but what a treat we’re all in for! Leslie, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

I had a hard time getting it to go counterclockwise. I finally covered up the upper body and it would turn the other way.

    Very neat.

Yes, according to this test, I’m more left-brained…and I find that VERY hard to believe.

However, I took the test on the day I was fiddling with taxes and such, so maybe I was just in a left-brained mood. I can make it switch back and forth just by looking away for a second. I guess I’m switch-brained. :rotfl1:

Julie, she’s definitely going clockwise for me (big surprise?) but I can get her to go counterclockwise pretty often. I even got her to switch directions and go back and forth a few times before she could make a complete revolution (hey, I like to dance). I’ve taken these kinds of test before and I usually come out about 60/40 Right/Left. Which probably explains why I work in science but would prefer to be in the arts. That right brained list you put up there is definitely my default setting. And that was a pretty left brained statement. See? Anybody care to hear my prediction for which way she spins when Leslie looks at her?

And speaking of Leslie. I’m so proud of her! :snoopy:

Leslie, Huge congrats! I know how worried you’ve been about where your writing future will head. Will you still write Blazes? (I love my Blazes…)

Julie, I’m not certain I believe in this test. The clockwise rotation should not be me–I’m detail-oriented, organized, anti-risk-taking, etc., not creative (but, am emotional). However, I can make the dancer go counter-clockwise after a few seconds or so. Interesting.

You know what? From the get go this little dancing lady has had me screwed up! Obviously it doesn’t take much to fLIck with me! I kept staring at it trying to make it move, then started thinking back to this morning and how the arms were moving. My whole post this morning was backwards! It was before my cafeinne, before breakfast, and apparently before I ever should have crawled my tail out of bed! Scary to think I left shortly after posting this and drove! Think I’ll go back to bed now…

I can see her going both ways even though I have what is known as a visual spacial disorder…in other words I can only focus on one certain thing for a short time before I begin to drift off onto something else. Makes it hard to complete tasks from start to finish. I’ve been able to manage it better as I get older, but it sure makes for a difficult taskmaster…LOL This, though, I was able to do with hardly any trouble!
