Sweet Tooth Day

I’m still dealing with root canal issues and right now my mouth is in a lot of pain and eating something sweet makes my teeth ache even more. :sicksick: So, I’ve tried to stay away from the sweet stuff, but quite honestly, I miss it! I love my sweets, and of course that got me thinking about all the sweet things I love to eat (but haven’t been able to!). Here’s a list of my personal favorites:

FAVORITE HARD CANDY: Good ‘N Plenty

FAVORITE PIE: Banana Cream Pie
FAVORITE CAKE: Cupcakes with real buttercream frosting

FAVORITE DONUT: French Cruller (chocolate covered, of course!)
FAVORITE COOKIES: Mrs. Field’s Cinnamon Sugar Cookies

All these things make my sweet tooth (teeth) very happy! :grin1:

Okay, don’t start throwing stuff at me but I don’t eat a lot of sweets.

However, at national this past July I ate some Apple Pie at lunch which the Plotmonkeys forced me to eat! Can you believe it! :giggle:

When I leave my RA doc’s office after my infusion there is a dish of Jolly Roger candy there by check out–I usually grab one or two–apple flavored.

If I must have something chocolate I love these mini soy ice cream sandwiches called Cuties–Mint chocolate chip OR I have a glass of soy chocolate milk with a dab of cool whip on top.

I never eat donuts…though I would LOVE a cruller–plain

There’s one thing I want for my birthday. I want it for every birthday. It’s too rich, and too good and I’ll sit and eat it until I get sick of it and never want to eat it again. And then I want to eat more.

It consists of two things:
1) Whipped Cream
2) Chocolate Wafers

But not just any wafers. Nabisco’s Famous Chocolate Wafers.

These are hard to find
[ WaPo Article] in some areas.

The whipped cream has to be the normally sweetened kind. No Splenda cream allowed.

As a child, I would watch my mother make this cake for company. First, she’d whip the cream (I’d get to lick the beater afterward, another reason I liked this dessert so much). Then she’d dab some whipped cream on each cookie and stand them on edge, like a row of dominoes, on a serving tray.

When they were all lined up, she would smear the rest of the whipped cream over the cookies to make a long, white log. The log would go into the refrigerator for several hours (sometimes overnight). When it was time for dessert, she would dust the cake with some cocoa powder or grated chocolate. Then she would slice it, on the diagonal, revealing zebra-stripe layers of white cream and dark chocolate. To a child, this seemed like magic. How did a rather messy log of cookies and cream turn into this yummy layered dessert?

This log shaped cake gets wrapped completely in foil and put the fridge. The refrigeration is absolutely required. After you put it in the fridge overnight, you can freeze it if you want, but to eat it, it has to be thawed properly, still in the foil or else the condensation of thawing gets on the outer layer of whipped cream which is bad.

The flavors of the cream and the cookies mingle together, as do the textures. That’s the beauty of this dessert that’s been around since the mid 1920s.
