Inspired by Carly…
Julie Icon

I’m in a quizzy mood. I know I did a quiz last week and Carly did one this week, but they are so much fun! Especially those that compare me to food…

You Are Lemon Meringue Pie

You’re the perfect combo of sassy and sweet
Those who like you have well refined tastes

It’s been one of those weeks. The pie quiz caught my attention. If you can’t have copious amounts of pie, then at least have a pie quiz where everyone will mention all the types of pie you like. Which, in my case, is just about every type. I swear, I can’t think of one flavor of pie that I wouldn’t have. I often have trouble deciding over pies at those restaurants that serve 25 different kinds because they all sound good!

And speaking of pies (honest to God, this really isn’t the topic of the blog!), my grocery chain has recently started offering little mini-pies in all their most popular flavors: pecan, apple, cherry, pumpkin, egg, etc. Egg is my favorite. Weird, I know. But I love it! And the pies are so teeny, you can buy one semi-guilt free. Of course, I try not to remind myself that a slice of the mini-pie is pretty much the same calorically as a slice of big pie…but what the hell. I mean…what’s life worth living for if you can’t have the pie?

And I guess that’s the subject of my blog today. You know what? Life rocks. Sure, the world is going to hell in a handbasket…but we still have great moments, don’t we? The sound of kid’s laughing or learning something new. The friend who calls just to see how you’re doing…your mom calling because she hasn’t spoken to you in 48 hours and that can’t be good. Is that annoying? Sometimes…but it’s just a great reminder that mom still loves you. That’s not bad under any circumstances.

Monday was Thanksgiving Day in Canada. I’m feeling thankful today.

Must be the pie.

:giggle:

Are you in Tampa or near Tampa? I’m doing a booksigning with authors from my RWA chapter this Saturday! From 2:30-3:30, we’ll be at the Barnes & Noble in Carrollwood. Rita Heron is our special guest author and also in attendance will be Karen Rose, C.L. Wilson, Ann Jacobs and more! I’ll be signing STRIPPED and WITCHY BUSINESS!

:winner:

THE WINNER OF THE ARC OF PHANTOM PLEASURES IS JOLENE, #19!! Jolene, please email me at julie @ julieleto.com so I can get your snail mail address!

I’ll be giving away a few more as time goes by…

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

I’m also lemon meringue. I would have chosen a chocolate mousse pie, just cuz that’s my favorite, but I’m not complaining.

Julie, you are so right. There might be days when the world seems to be going completely crazy, but then your pet (kid, significant other, etc) will gaze at you with big eyes and want to snuggle, or waking up to the sun shining will make you smile and be happy to be alive. Gotta love that :)

But I will be giving away more of them. I’m waiting to see when my publisher will send me my batch. The one I offered I made myself, though it’s pretty cool looking, if you ask me, LOL!

So hope is not lost. I want to give away one a month until the book comes out…maybe next month, I’ll run it as a contest on our Newsletter list (hint, hint, hint.)

Look at the Halloween emoticons – just for Leslie!!!

OMG – that barfing one is hillarious!!!

I was thinking about the thanksgiving theme and wanted to share a story I heard yesterday. Talk about attitude!

This little boy that was across the hall from my son in the Children’s hospital came over and started talking to us. 12 years old, 8th grade. Last year on 10/20 he was run over by a trash truck – drug 41′ – then backed over. He was in the hospital from Oct. – Feb, lost his entire right arm, has a huge scar on his neck and now is back for more internal surgery. He’ll be there about 2 months this time.

He was talking about doing his schoolwork through the hospital’s school, so he doesn’t get behind. He said he passed last year’s end of grade tests even though he guessed on most of them. I said, “Wow, you’re lucky.” He smiled and said, “Yes ma’am, I’m very blessed.”

Then he went on to tell me about his dad, who has MS a result of being a combat medic during Desert Shield and how his 16 sister has to stay with grandparents while his parents stay with him. They live about an hour from the hospital. And still, this child truly sees himself as blessed instead of wallowing around in self-pity as I’m sure I would be doing.

He was a huge blessing to me yesterday and really put my interesting life in perspective. Just thought I’d share his story with you.

    Love these emoticons!!! :winking:

Digger and I have been on our own personal book tour.

We stop and take pictures of Digger in unusual places and when asked

tell folks we are having some fun with a wonderfully generous and well

written author. It is fun. Yesterday while Digger sat atop a boat launch

sign, I got into a bit of trouble. Well i wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t getting

into something. After sniffing around this wonderful ramp I decided to

have a drink. OOp’s, Splash! Yup I fell in and boy was that water cold and

wet. After suffering the humiliation of getting dreid off using clean pee pee

pads I was allowed back into the crate. To be completely honest next

summer I am going to give it another try when the weather is warmer and

    we have some fluffy towels.

I am pretty sure Mom is an apple pie with 2 scoops of French vanilla ice

    cream. Slurpy kisses to all,

    Zoey.

And life definitely rocks. My daughter just turned four. She recently tried to jump over her small chair. Needless to say she didn’t make it. Tina – I read your post from last night about skateboarding – might have been on Soapbox Queens. That’s another thing we have in common. Both of my boys skateboard and in fact, the little one was in a competition on Saturday.

My 20 year old said he and his room-mates had been talking about it and wondered what would have happended if the 12 year old had taken a hard fall during the competition. I’m sure his appendix was already angry so I wonder if it would have worsened the condition. Glad we’ll never know!

My son watches the show you were talking about and although I’ve never seen it myself, I feel like I have because my son has told me about so many of the episodes. Actually, I think I did see part of one he had on his iPod but can’t remember for sure. Son #1 absolutely loves that show!

Jodie (was it Jodie…Yikes, I can’t find the post if it was here or at Soapbox Queens): I totally know what you mean about putting things in perspective. My big guy (okay, he’s 7), who has autism….I am so blessed where he is on the spectrum. Does he have a ton of issues? You betcha, but am I grateful? Yes. I would so rather have all of those issues and have him tell me every night “I love you, Momma”, than have him just sit there staring into space (I know a lot of kids like this, so, trust me, when I see them, I thank God immensely for my son and where he is). My son has such a spirit and personality….I know that I got him because I had so many lessons to learn. Does it drain on me? yes. He has taught me so much, though about others and myself. He’s just so amazing. I am also blessed with my 5 year old’s compassion. When he senses my frustration, he’ll turn to me and say, “Momma, it’s just his autism”. That’s true.

Okay, now I can go have a nice, little cry…a happy cry. It’s just so nice to be grateful. We have so many supportive people in our life, too.

I hardly eat pie unless you count pumpkin cheescake at Thanksgiving or sometimes chocolate pie or even mud pie, but meringue
    :rotfl1:

I like the :bat: :ghost: :pumpkin:

    Katie,

What are your thoughts on Jenny Mccarthy and her son?

That was sweet what your son said

Katie, It sounds like you have two very special little boys, and that’s probably because they have a very special mommy!

Something just told me to come back here and read last nights posts and boy am I glad I did.

You have a great attitude and perspective Katie and like Tina said, it does sound like you have special boys and I’m sure it’s at least in part because they have a special mommy.
