Today’s Guest Blogger: JACI BURTON!
Janelle Icon

I’m thrilled to announce that we have romance author JACI BURTON as our guest blogger in the jungle today! Jaci is the very prolific author of the hot and sexy “Demon Hunters” series, as well as many other equally steamy books. :hothot: This month she has not just one, but TWO new releases out! The first is HUNTING THE DEMON, and the second is a super sexy (erotic) anthology titled EXCLUSIVE. She’s one busy author!
:posting:

Let’s give Jaci a warm jungle welcome, :applause: and if you have any questions for this super-friendly author, feel free to ask! I know I have a few questions of my own! :angel7:

And now, here’s Jaci Burton:

The time after Labor Day always signals the kickoff to Fall. And with the Fall season comes the beginning of the new television season.

Fun stuff. For a writer, it’s awful. For a writer with multiple deadlines, it’s the kiss of death.

I would be the writer with multiple deadlines. The one who just signed a new contract with one of my publishers and said, “Oh sure, I can deliver that book on that date and the next one on that date.” Of course I already had a book due in the midst of all that. And one I’m about to turn in. Which means I’ll be writing nonstop from now until….well, I don’t like to think about the ‘until’. But I’m not complaining. I’m employed and I’m a happy camper.

I am, however, whimpering. Because the new Fall television season is starting soon, and my T.V. watching time is going to be severely limited. But, but, Grey’s Anatomy is returning. So is American Idol. And CSI. Men In Trees. Ugly Betty. Not to mention all the new shows coming out that I want to catch. Like Dirty Sexy Money. And the spinoff from Greys, Private Practice. And a couple new paranormal shows like New Amsterdam, Pushing Daisies, and Moonlight.

See my dilemma? Somewhere in there I have books to deliver, edits, copyedits, promotion. I just released two books back to back. I thought I’d have time to relax. Heh. Foolish me.

I think my DVR is going to get a workout. Either that, or I’ll be getting less sleep. Or learning to multitask even better than I do now.

And somewhere in the midst of all that I have to read. I HAVE to read. Besides being an author and a TV junkie, I’m a reader. And there are great books recently released and awesome books coming out over the next few months.

I’m so screwed.

So what’s going to occupy your time over the next few months? New TV shows you’re dying to see? Some old familiars? Great books? Tell me. I’m giving away a couple of my books as prizes to two random people who comment. A copy of SURVIVING DEMON ISLAND, the first book in my Demon Hunter series with Bantam Dell, and a copy of WILD, WICKED & WANTON, my Berkley Heat erotic romance.

Thanks so much to the Plotmonkeys for inviting me here today! I love this blog.
:hothot: :hothot:

Janelle

JanelleJanelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

Welcome to the jungle, Jaci! It’s great to have you here as a guest blogger! :flower4you:

I hear you on all the Fall shows! There are so many good ones returning, and a few “can’t miss” new ones, too. I saw an add for MOONLIGHT (where it states “Tall, Dark, and Immortal. :hothot: ) and the guy who plays the main character is GORGEOUS! I think it would be safe to say that we could call watching that show “writing research”. :rotfl1:

I do have a question for you — can you tell us all about your Demon Hunter series? What inspired the series? What is the basic premise? How many books do you plan on writing in the series?

And what about EXCLUSIVE? Tell us a bit about your story and what looks to be one :hothot: anthology!

Hi Jaci! I’ve read “Wild, Wicked & Wanton” (LOVED it) and “Exclusive” and I have “Surviving Demon Island” in my tbr pile, so please don’t enter me in the contest.

I’m not a t.v. watcher, so I don’t feel like there’s anything I need to watch. There’s kind of a freedom of not chaining myself to the t.v. – I’ve been addicted to watching shows and let me tell you, nothing got done LOL. There are quite a few that sound good, but I don’t feel like I’m missing much. Now I have more of a life. About time *g*

Are you planning on writing Denver’s story?

    WELCOME JACI!
I am looking forward to most of the shows you mentioned, plus BIG SHOTS … those who’ve been on this blog awhile know why … MICHAEL VARTAN! :hothot: The good news for me is that I can write with the TV on … and do all the time. Also can’t forget House!

    Hi Jaci,

another one of your fans here. Over here in Germany, we don’t get all those yummy shows until way after you’ve had them. Heroes is starting here this fall. We have new episodes of the CSI’s and The Closer, which I love. Thank God for the internet, I’ve watched some shows there….like, Bloodties, and the Jim Butcher series….very good!!! Then there is an English paranormal series which is PHENOMENAL!!!! It’s called Torchwood….I’m hooked!!! Saw the first season on the net and hope there is more to come.

So, with all that TV watching, the rest of my time is spent doing my favourtie pastime, and that’s reading awesome books!!! :readdabook:

    Hugs :hug2:

Whew! I feel better now. You have no idea how hard I’ve struggled to get pen to paper during the US Open and all of the Grand Slam events that preceded it. I was literally dreading the start of the new season for the exact reason.

I have made the decision to cut my losses and exclude American Idol from my schedule. I’ve watched it the last three years and I’ve just come to the conclusion that for a woman that is yet to complete a manuscript it just requires too much of my time – Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. I am officially a recovering American Idol addict.

Does that mean I can’t peek in for glimpses of Simon’s too-tight shirts and insanely mean remarks, Paula’s meltdowns, and a rousing “That’s what I’m talking about right there, Dawg!” Nah, I’d better not. Time to crack the whip… and watch 30 Rock, CSI, Men in Trees, and Private Practice.

Janelle – I hear you on the ‘research’ part. I think my addiction to Court TV can be considered research, can’t it?

I was inspired to write the Demon Hunter series by, of all things, Angelina Jolie. I was watching an HBO series about the making of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and they featured her doing alot of her own stunts. So here’s this actress–beautiful, talented, and she does her own stunts, too. I thought about a character like her….was there anything that would test her, that would make her afraid? What kind of situation could I throw her into that would test her to the max? That’s how Surviving Demon Island was born. I created the series around the character of Gina Bliss, and built a world of demons and demon hunters, and thrust Gina into the middle of it, along with a host of other characters. Fun stuff those ideas, huh?

Hi Carly- I totally forgot about BIG SHOTS! Michael Vartan and Dylan McDermott in one show. That one looks fun.

Hi Valerie! I’ve heard great things about Torchwood from a lot of people. I’m going to have to check that out, because you know I need MORE tv shows to watch. :hide:

Pat – Don’t even get me started on all the books I need to read. I just now started the J.D. Robb series, and I’m light years behind the rest of the world. Now I want to devour them all in one sitting. Yikes!

Samara – Good luck giving up American Idol. I might try, but I know I just won’t be able to NOT watch. I’m addicted. :giggle:

Welcome Jaci!!! I can’t wait for the new fall tv season and I know my dvr will be overworked. I like all the shows you mentioned plus Bones, Heros, and House. Big Shots looks really good too. Luckily I can read and watch tv at the same time, or I would go with no sleep to get my reading time in each day. I know there are many books I’m looking forward to coming out, but right now I can only think about a few, Carly’s Sealed with a Kiss, the new JR Ward, and the new JD Robb(I think Nora has one out in Dec too).

I am looking forward to many, many shows- especially Blood Ties when it finally comes on and the new Dirty, Sexy Money, along with so many already mentioned. I love tv. Which is why we have 3 of our 5 tv’s with DVR’s on them. I am still trying to finish up before the new season. This summer was fantastic for great new shows.

I also have a huge pile of books, and the pile at work to buy is getting larger too. God knows when I will read them all, but winter is coming and the only outside activity will be shoveling. :boohoo:

Over the next few months, I’ll be finishing my current WIP, starting a single title I’ve been planning to write, and hopfully pounding out the first book of a cozy mysery series I want to write.

I love television too if The Closer, Burn Notice, CSI or Ghost Hunters happens to be on. Otherwise, I’m reading in the evenings or if I’m really on a roll that day knocking out a couple of more pages in my current WIP.

    Have a fab day everyone,

    Cher

What is occupying my time? Well, my boys for one…I have three boys, three schools…right now, getting my oldest adjusted to 2nd grade is taking a lot of my time (he has autism and they moved him to a new school). I have three boys, three schools…not to mention three sets of activities!

Television will occupy my time soon. LOVE DWTS, Grey’s and I am sure Private Practice. Thank goodness L and O doesn’t start until January. :onfire:

Welcome Jaci! On top of deadlines, I’ve got football season. We’re a huge football family (my oldest is 12 and has been playing Pop Warner for years). Oldest just started playing middle school and my youngest is playing flag, and my 6 year old daughter is a flag cheerleader. Needless to say, football and deadlines dominate our family during the fall. I watch everything on demand or on-line (love the fact that you can watch ABC shows on-line!). Private Practice is the one I’m really looking forward to. Otherwise, I’m hooked on reality shows. American Idol, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Rock of Love (I know, I know, bad TV, but I can’t help myself!) Congratulations on the new books! I’m really enjoying the demon series.

Hi Susan! Thank you for the compliment! And I’ll answer yours and Vicki’s question since it’s fairly similar.

I don’t write in multiple genres at the same time. My poor brain cells would overload. :giggle: I write one book at a time, finish that book and then start the next. I wish I was better at multitasking and could work on more than one book at a time, but I can’t. I’m just not wired that way. So I’ll typically work on one of my Demon Hunter books, plotting and writing that one until it’s finished and turned into my editor, then I’ll start plotting one of my contemporary erotic romances, write that and turn it in. It’s actually a refreshing change for me to hop into different genres. Cleanses the palate, so to speak. By the time I finish one genre, I’m ready to hop into something new.

I’ve got some good news to share with everyone! Hubby went to the doctor on Tues. for his 6 week checkup and the doctor said he looked great! He said the MRI from Monday looked good and he’s been cleared to drive and go back to work on a limited schedule.

I got hit with a stomach virus yesterday morning and couldn’t even enjoy my first day of being at home alone in over 6 weeks. But it’s wonderful to see him getting dressed in the mornings (even if I do have to go back to ironing) and getting in his truck to go to work.

He still gets confused on names and calls OJ milk and crepe myrtles wheeping willows, but they say that will clear up in time. And at least he knows my name! :laughat: Thanks for all the wonderful thoughts and prayers you guys have extended to me over the past 8 weeks. Sheww, its been a tough road but you guys have most definitely helped make it seem lighter!!! :thankyou:

Welcome Jaci. Nice to see you here in the jungle! I have to confess to the fact that I don’t think I have read any of your books- – sorry about that! Exclusive sounds interesting. I will check into that one.

Carly, I checked out the video’s after reading your newsletter. I loved watching them & hearing you talk about your writing & your books.

What will I be doing in the months ahead? Taking my daily walks, I love the fall weather & the colors, reading (always) watching TV, can’t wait for my favs to come back on & also check out some of the new ones. Other than that we will just see what life brings me!
:writeblock: Good luck with your writing.

Jodie, so glad to hear the good news about your DH. I hope he continues to improve & be back to his normal self. I’m sure he is pleased to be able to return to work. :hug2:

Great to have you here, Jaci. Love your books, especially the Demon Hunters series. You have given me many hours of exciting reading…keep those books coming. Looking forward to your new ones. I am also looking forward to the new TV season and some of the returns of my old favorites, such as CSI, NCIS, Bones, and Ugly Betty plus, hopefully, some enjoyable new shows, especially the paranormals.

Here’s the info again for entering the contest for OVEREXPOSED and BORN TO BE WILDE:

Leslie and I have a fun “insider” treat in store for our readers. Our upcoming September books have a super-secret “shared scene” connecting our books, and we’re challenging you to find it!

Just purchase your copies of OVEREXPOSED by Leslie Kelly (Harlequin Blaze, available late August 2007) and BORN TO BE WILDE by Janelle Denison (Berkley, available late August or early September 2007). Read both books, find the shared scene in each book, and send an email to: plotmonkeyscontest@gmail.com listing the scene and the page numbers from each book. You must be specific with the scene and the page numbers from each of our books!

A grand prize winner will be selected at random from all correct entries and will receive a $50 gift certificate from Amazon.com. Two runners up will each receive a backlist book of their choice.

The contest runs until September 30th, so you’ll have time to read–and enjoy–both of these sexy, fun and exhilarating books.

    Good luck and have fun!

Hi, Jaci! Welcome to Plotmonkeys… :monkey:

Sorry I’ve been gone all day…the only show I’m dying for is Heroes, but I also am interested in Project Runway and as for new shows, Pushing Daisies. Talk about sexual tension…if he touches her again, she dies. Instantly. What an amazing concept!

    Hi Jaci!

Surviving Demon Island was a great read and I’m really looking forward to reading Hunting the Demon.

As far as plans for the next couple of months I’m not really into watching that much television but I do have a mountain of books that I’d like to read. I also have quite a stack of holiday romances that I want to get started on plus I have several more ordered.
I have a 2 week old granddaughter that I’m looking forward to spending ALOT of cuddle time with and I’m hoping to see my little 5 year old granddaughter every other weekend (she is taking after Grandma and she has a whole stack of books waiting to have read to her when she gets here.)

Your book sounds Great! I’m so sick of A Jolie though…just can’t see the fascination with her. Oh well. I don’t watch any TV shows so I’ll be reading Catherine Mann’s On Target, Stella Cameron’s Target and Heather Graham’s The Island just to name a few.
