For Your Amusement
Carly Icon

I’m on deadline.
No time to blog.
So for your amusement instead, a photo of poor Buddy being tortured by one of my girls (who shall remain nameless).
She took one of Bailey’s bows and put it in his head, then put short shorts on and called the poor boy Daisy Duke.
Eventually I rescued him …

He’s such a good sport.
As for Bailey, any help on puppies barking during the day while in their crate will be greatly appreciated.
Already tried:
spray bottle, Kong, yelling, not yelling, and citronella spray.

PS: The winner of yesterday’s autographed book from Mary Jo Putney was: CATSLADY, Message # 37. Please drop Leslie a line at author@lesliekelly.com with your snail mail addy and she’ll forward it to Mary Jo so she can get your prize out to you.

Carly

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

LOL. Poor guy. The abuse he suffers in the name of love. Aw, but he’s awfully cute in those denim shorts :D

Inotice you didn’t rescue him before you took an embarrassing picture!!

Try throwing a blanket over the cage and ignore the dog. Once she’s quiet, wait a bit and then acknowledge that she was quiet. Don’t yell at them- they think it’s play time, I swear to god.

I also tend to have a starring contest with mine when they won’t shut up- Me Alpha around here.

Awww, poor Buddy! Gee, I can’t imagine who did THAT to him. (frowning darkly at XXX!)

I know one thing I’ve read about puppy barking is to get some kind of noisemaker. My Dad used a soda can, filled it with stones, then duct taped the end of it. When the dog would bark, he’d rattle it at him. The dog hated the sound and eventually would stop doing it…even seeing the can still spazzes her out.

A friend of mine was told to bark back to her dog to get him to stop barking. That way she would establish herself as the alpha dog…it worked until she moved and then they had to start all over again. I like the blanket over the crate best. Love the picture of Buddy…he is so cute even in shorts and a bow.

I’m not sure if it will help or not but when mine where very young I put the radio on in the same room. The noise (I think) helped them to feel they weren’t alone. I also did it for short periods to start and then gradually started increasing the time. I always give them their favorite toy.

I’ve never tried this but I have read that you can teach them to speak when you want by telling them speak, when they do you give them the treat. Once they have that one down then you do the reverse telling them quiet and as soon as they are quiet you give them the treat. I’m told that you can train them to bark or to stay quiet on command. Not to sure about it since I haven’t done this one yet. :)

Buddy looks cute no matter what you do to him and he’s such a wonderful big brother.

    Buddy,

You are such a good sport. One day we will get a dog and I hope he/she is just as tolerable with my kids as you are with your kids. :) I have found that you four-legged people tend to adopt the kids and think you know better than the grown-ups sometimes.

I am leaving Friday to visit my mom and her dog, Velma gets upset with me if I raise my voice or tickle fight the kids. She definitely thinks she knows best.

Also, Buddy when the girls go away to college and grow up they will always remeber the fun they had with you and they will probably miss you more than they miss those grown-ups.

    Have a super day!

Poor Buddy :( He did not look very happy in that picture. I am sure he was relieved to see you rescue him. I don’t have a dog, so I couldn’t help you with your barking issue. Good Luck with that one. Have a good day!:doggie:

Poor Buddy. I wish I had something to offer Carly but I’m dealing with my Buddy chewing things. We let him roam in certain areas when we’re home but when you’re showering or getting ready for work, it’s hard to keep an eye on him constantly. I guess I could try crating him like you do when I’m home, but then I would be having the same problem as you I’m sure. Good luck!

Well…if you are really desperate you could use a bark collar. We’ve had to use it on our dog because she barked non-stop and was really bothering the neighbors. It just gives them a little shock when they bark and usually doesn’t take too long for them to figure it out.

I’d try everything else first, because I hate it, but it definitely works if you get desperate.

Poor Buddy. He must be a great sport to let someone do that to him. I think he looks so sad because he knows Daisy Dukes are out of style and he has nowhere to hide from the camera.:hide:

Good luck with your deadline. :) It means a book we can look forward to! 8) :cooldance:
I have no idea on how to get Bailey not to bark–it’s what dogs do!
Congratulations to Catslady on winning Mary Jo’s book.

    Oh Buddy you poor fellow.:doggie:

I can just envision Carly on all 4’s barking back at the dog, Liza.

    :happy2: Not , not, not LOL :happy2:

I just finished Enslave Me Sweetly and Animal Instincts by Gena Showalter.

Animal Instinct was a lot of fun. Good story with lots off laughs.

I liked the characters and the relationship.

    It gets a 9.25 (not a plotmonkey book):thankyou:

EMS was not my thing (Alien Love) but not a bad read once I got into it a

bit. Gets an 8 ’cause it is a little different than my usual read.

Next: Janet Evanovich’s new book released today Lean Mean 13.

    Awww how cute! Poor Buddy:(
We do things like that to our dog Macbeth too, like when we bought him a superman raincoat…which we thought was hilariously cute, him… not so much. He refused to walk! :wtf: As if to say “I will not wear your stupid jacket and pee outside too!”

As for the barking I wish I had the answer, my dog is a Yorkie or as my husband calls him a yapper. He barks at all the other dogs on our block. My husband, who thinks he is Cesar Milan aka the dog whisperer, tries everything Cesar does, to no avail. My theory is he’s a dog, dogs bark.:hide:

Good Luck with the deadline…and the barking!

Hi, all. Buddy wants me to tell you that despite the fact that he can sometimes be tortured, he knows it is all in fun, and most importantly he knows he is loved. :love2: He also appreciates the suggestions for shutting Bailey up because his poor doggie ears :doggie: are ringing and he wants to :dog: run. But not far because he loves it here. :thankyou:

Yup, I highly recommend a can of compressed air, like you use to blow dust out of your keyboard and computer. You don’t have to spray it at the dog–the noise gets their attention. It works a treat for biters too.

Thank you so much – I’m thrilled with the win :cooldance:

Poor doggie – especially the shorts. I remember dressing my cat once as a small child – it was some kind of top and the poor thing tripped every time she moved.
