Well, it’s 3pm Sunday and I have to leave to go out with my family for the rest of the day in less than an hour. I’ve been writing like mad since I got up and just remembered tomorrow’s blog, so I thought I’d give you a quick rundown of the weekend.
Yesterday we spent the entire day on a mini bus with my younger brother & sister-in-law, and 20 of their closest friends, all getting boozy and loud as we toured several Virginia wineries. What fun! We started as strangers but by the end of the day were having a raucous sing-along that even the driver was going along with. Too too funny. I loved going to the tastings, and discovered a few fabulous vintages. Bought some wine, ate some cheese, didn’t have to drive. Just a great day.
Tonight we’re going down to Wolf Trap park in Virginia. We’re taking the kids to see Jesus Christ Superstar there. One of my favorite shows, and I just love bringing a picnic and watching from the lawn area. This’ll be their first time and I know they’ll enjoy it. It won’t be exactly the way it was in the old days when Bruce and I were dating…when we’d snuggle and be all gooshy and romantic on the blanket. The kids would kill us if we did. But we’re looking forward to it anyway.
Like I said above, I’ve been writing like mad up until now. Almost finished this *%&@*% book…actually, I shouldn’t curse it. It’s going to be pretty good. Who knew I’d like writing a thr….. Ahem. Never mind. You’ll have to buy it next January to get the rest of that sentence!
Hope everyone had as great a weekend as I did. I will be popping in on Monday between frantic spurts of typing. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now, which is always a huge rush for me as I finish a book. And knowing there’s a new house waiting at the end of this tunnel, too, makes it doubly exciting!!
PS: Be sure to watch for some super special guest bloggers!! Tomorrow, Tuesday June 12, we have fun and funny, up-and-coming author GENA SHOWALTER and next Monday, June 18, one of my very favorite authors and a superstar of the historical genre, MARY JO PUTNEY. Don’t miss them!

Leslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

Sounds like a fun weekend Leslie :)
I enjoy Gena’s books (just got Catch a Mate) but I admit to never having read a Mary Jo Putney book – will I burn in Hell for that????
Comment
I’ve read Mary Jo, but never heard of Gena, so if we go to hell we’ll be there together. Or does one cancel out the other???:happy2:
DH’s grand daughter graduated from a catholic high school this weekend, which in and of itself is nothing. We are proud of her.
The entertainment at the graduation- where all the girls where long white dresses and the boys are in white tux jackets- was one of the mother’s.
We all just called her the dominatrix.
And yes, I took a picture. I have to figure out how to get it up to link to it. Carly???
Her daughter was a Paris Hilton look alike. I think they were the center of attention, instead of the graduating class. Which is too bad because it was a very nice ceremony.
then we partied after. I ran a bar tab for myself. Sometimes it is the only way I can get through one of hubby’s family things.:cocktail:

Stacy and ev, before you go condemning yourself to Hades…get thee to a bookstore!

Uh, Julie…. I work in one remember?? It’s no fun to go on my days off and shop. :happy2:

I’m completely out of books in the tbr pile, which I’ve tried to keep that way so I don’t have any option but to write, however, I think I’ll take Julie’s advice and hit B&N today. It’s my son’s BD and I think I deserve a present too. Right?
Ev, if you read yesterday’s post you saw where I said I had the whole family coming for dinner, “ugh” – it wasn’t MY family coming for dinner!
Although I did learn my lesson on the excess. A couple of years ago we had to spend the day with hubby’s fam at our river cottage doing a clean up day. I woke up with an unbelievable hangover, pounding head and worshipping the porcelain god! :wallbash:
Hubby said, “You sure picked a hell of a day to have a hangover.” To which I responded, “If I hadn’t had to spend the whole day with your family yesterday, and knew I was going to have to spend the whole day with your family today, I wouldn’ have been drinking in the first damn place!” I did go to the river, but spent the whole day in bed with a “migraine!”
And I’ve NEVER overdone it like that since!!!
Glad you had such a great weekend and the books coming along, Leslie!! I’m sure it’s going to be fantastic!

ev, I forgot. Now you have no excuse!

Leslie: Sounds like a fun weekend.
I had a Mom’s Night Out last night. Good food…..when I got home (kids should have been in bed at 9:30), but a couple of them were still awake and the last one just went to bed. They were all tired so I don’t know what happened. Add that to the fact that I just had to throw out a ton of food because hubby decided last night to spray with ant spray our pantry without zippying food (so it got sprayed) and I am really tired (had a little too much caffeine). Not a good way to start a busy, busy week. The light at the end of the tunnel is thinking about getting Carly’s new book soon.

Wolf Trap! How fun! I saw Prairie Home Companion there two years ago when my Prince lived in Columbia, Maryland.

Way to go Leslie on all your writing. Sounds like you are just about finished. Can’t wait to read the thr…. book. Sound like you had a great weekend with your family. When my family gets together someone always brings at least one new bottle of wine for everyone to try. We have the best time just visiting, drinking, and eating so much food you think we were feeding a small town. Now I have to hit the library or bookstore to give both guest bloggers a try…I’ve never read books by either author.

Delia, it was SO nice! We loved picnicking under the stars.
There were a few minor glitches. First one of the ushers had a bum knee so he spent the first act walking back and forth, kicking his leg out and everyone around us was laughing, distracted by him rather than what was going on on stage. (I actually thought he looked like John Cleese heading to the Ministry of Funny Walks!)
The production was wonderful…and while I really didn’t like the voice of the lead (didn’t like his voice in the movie version of it, either) he really did nail the song Gethsemane, which is the pivotal one of the show. (Judas was incredible!)
We did hang around for a while after the show to see if we could meet the cast, but when my girls found out that Jesus would be coming out in street clothes, they decided not to stick around…lolololol!

Glad to hear that your book is almost done. Whoo hoo. I forgot to mention that earlier.
That’s too funny about the usher…..the owner of the restaurant we were at (they closed the restaurant for us and they were serving us) kept drinking as he was pouring the cocktails and cooking. That kept us laughing! As he said, ‘what happens here, stays here”. LOL!:wave:
(feeling a little better…got to vent to a friend, so I feel a lot better).

Leslie, sounds like a wonderful, fun weekend! I didn’t know Virginia had a wine country. I am in Sonoma county in northern California–Wine Country! I can no longer drink wine so sometimes it is hard to live here & be surrounded by all these wineries & vineyards. I love showing off the area & don’t mind being a designated driver since I can’t drink the wine!
One of Gena’s books is in my TBR pile. Historicals don’t grab me much these days so I have not read Mary Jo. Once in awhile I read one but it is rare!
Glad to hear your writing is going well. Can’t wait for the next book! :)

Sounds like a dream of a weekend. I’m glad to hear you’re almost finished with the book. I guess this means that Bruce brought you back the yummy dessert when he was out of town?
I love Jesus Christ Superstar and to see it outside must be awesome. :)

I want to go wine tasting in California….gotta dump the kids and do it! Not really, but you know what I mean.

Wine tasting here in NY is fun too. My mom now goes with a friend on a seniors trip to all the wineries- so she can drink.
I ended up at the bookstore, but only to buy a g/c. I did hit Lane Bryant, Pennies and Hot Topics. Wait until he sees the credit card statement. :wallbash:
Although, having to spend the weekend with his kids and grandkids, then we go on vacation with half of them in two weeks, I guess I can refer to it as therapy. Heavy duty therapy.:hissyfit:

Vicki…ahhh, yes, on the “yummy dessert.”
Those cannoli were to DIE for!

Leslie – it’s nice to know that you enjoyed being in my neck of the woods. I, too, think we have some pretty good wineries. Enjoy!
