A special guest bloggger…
Leslie Icon

Welcome to our first special Guest Blogger Day! We Plot Monkeys have decided to open up the jungle to some of our favorite people every now and then. Each of us will have a chance to invite someone special and this week, I’m lucky enough to announce that one of my personal favorite authors–and dearest friends–is popping in for a visit. Fellow former-Temptress Jill Shalvis is here!

Jill and I met in 1999 when I wrote her a fan letter after reading her Temptation Who’s The Boss, and quickly became email buddies, then critique partners for a while.
We’ve done miniseries together, visited each other’s homes and families, and we still email about ninety times a day. Her blog at www.jillshalvis.com is a daily destination for me and for many other readers. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you might want to add it to your daily blog hop list, right up there with the Plot Monkeys!

Now (drumroll please) introducing Jill Shalvis, who’s ready to pop in with some of her own thoughts on heroes…..
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It’s a damn good thing I’m a romance author. It gives me a façade for lusting after my favorite TV heroes. This way, when I’ve got my tongue hanging out over Jack Bauer or Jack AND Sawyer on Lost or any of the drool-inducing guys on Grey’s Anatomy, I have an excuse. Research. That’s right people, I expect you to at least pretend to believe I’m ga-ga eyed over these men for research, in order to absorb their hunkiness and impose such hunkiness on the heroes in my books.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

And the truth is, I’m not that picky. Take for example, my odd affinity for Brian Austin Green, Freddie Prince’s best friend on Freddie. The guy’s character is a leach, a mooch, and yet . . . don’t judge me . . .inexplicably sexy. Crazy, I know.

Or Danny on Vegas! Man slut. And yet, he flashes that naught smile and I’m goners. Wait, maybe I’m the slut . . .

Oh and I LOVE House. NO idea why. The guy is a sarcastic, cynical ass, and yet . . . can’t get enough of him.

My husband is a bit amused by all this. He thinks his loftier viewing choice of the NBA excludes him from being a fellow TV addict. Ha! I recently commandeered the remote for a week (conveniently hiding it in the bottom of the fruit drawer in the refrigerator — that sucker’ll never see the light of day). Thus robbed of his beloved basketball, an odd phenomenon
occurred. He got as hooked on TV as me. But he’s watching an entirely different gender, starting with Eva Longoria and ending with Nikki Cox . . .

Too bad he’s a general contractor not a romance author because I am damn sure not buying HIS “research” plea . . .

Thanks so much for visiting, Jill!!!

Readers, please don’t forget to check out Jill’s next release, AUSSIE RULES, available at Amazon.

LeslieLeslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

Hey Jill! Welcome to the Plotmonkeys! It is so great to have you here :) I visit your blog rather frequently, enjoying the fun slices of life you give us, most of them very amusing. Keep up the good work LOL

Yeah, I hear ya on the whole hero thing. I’m not so picky myself though I’m not a huge t.v. watcher. Some of my fave “heroes” are movie-based, like Clive Owen, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman, the newly available Matthew McConnaughy, oh the list goes on and on. I like rugged, sexy heroes. yeah, and the sarcastic ones…there’s just something about ‘em.

So while I may not be a t.v. addict, I am a movie addict, and I will willingly admit that I’ve gone to see a movie more than once just cuz a hottie was in it. *g*

Can’t wait to get “Aussie Rules”. I’m thinking about taking it to Lori Foster’s get together coming up this weekend. Should be a great read between meeting some great authors.

Hey, Jill, thanks for visiting!!!! My favorite thing is to take your “research” a step further. I can cut them out and hang them up in my office. Eye candy. Research. YUM!

    Hi Jill,
Hmmm, what can I use for an excuse drooling over the eye candy? I’m not a writer. LOL! I am so excited about meeting people on this website. It is so neat to be able to be introduced to new authors I have never read books from before.

Now Carly, hanging them up for frequent viewing must be a sight to behold. Does your husband ever say anything?? I used to hang pictures up in my cubicle at work. My husband only visited every so often so he never really saw them. But I am sure he would have made comments about me lusting after these men. I mean after all I worked in the Promotional Products field, not exactly a field I needed to research men. Heeheee!

Fun to be here! Oh and I definitely collect pictures. I pull them out of the magazines I read all the time. They’re in a file next to my laptop that’s labeled RESEARCH but we all know it’s not research, it’s the fantasy file . . .

Hey, two months in a row I totally scored on GQ…last month Sawyer on the cover. This month Hugh Jackman!

Wanna hear the funniest part? My hubby bought me both editions!

Love you Jill! And yes, pics of hot guys, hot guys on TV, hot guys in magazines – all research for the romance novels I’m working on.

What other profession allows you to drool over good looking men all day in the name of research? It doesn’t get any better than that!

When my husband found out that Matthew McConnaughy was free again, he asked me if he should be worried. LOL. YES, he should be very worried, because after all, Matthew is just beating down our door . . .

Research! Yeah…..I had to do some research on that GQ issue with Josh Holloway on the cover. Luckily my DH subscribes. ;)

I keep telling all my friends that I need to lead the glamorous and exciting life of Jill Shalvis, where every day is an adventure and the research is so rewarding! Niiiice! (y)

Well, Jill, though I don’t know all the guys you mentioned–don’t have a working TV and can’t afford to go to or rent movies at the moment–you have some of my favorites on your list. I really like that name “eye candy”. When did that come into existence. Runningwithquills blog had 12, I think, on their site for readers to choose from. Yup, some of these guys are really yummy. Nice blog.

Nice to meet you, Jill….I just read a blurb about your new book…yet, another book to put on my ‘to read/buy list’ (I am new to this genre and trying to catch up, quickly). I love Australian men (I am such a sucker for their accent…)… :) Thanks, Plotmonkeys for keeping me broke and introducing me to new authors (just kidding about the broke part). Have a great Monday!

Back to my pages … um, okay truth. Back to Charmed Season Three on DVD. Man, Cole is hot. Too bad he’s a demon … I guess we can chalk him onto my list of inappropriate men to lust after, lol.

Ah, the things we do in the name of research, huh? Untold hours of scouring the globe for more pix of yummy men, clogging up files and computers with those pix, hours spent staring blankly out the window imagining such hunks in all their glory…. sigh. Such a hardship.

Hi again Jill! Can’t wait to be able to read Aussie Rules. Eye candy, a treat for the eyes–yes! :) Someone mentioned David James Elliott, has anyone seen the clips for his appearance on Medium? I don’t watch Medium but if I can find out what episode he is on I will watch. He looked even better than when he was on JAG(very fummy!)–I miss being able to watch him every week. Love those military men! 8)
