What kind of contemporary hero occupation do you like to read about the most? (Lawyer, cops, sports related, cowboy, paranormal related, Military, etc)
JANELLE: As a reader, I tend to gravitate toward books that offer a bodyguard type hero. He can be a cop, private investigator, or a security agent, but I do enjoy the “close confinement” between the hero and heroine that comes with him being her bodyguard in some way!
JULIE: Hmmm…I like rich heroes. Corporate raiders. CEOs. Self-made men who have fought their way to the top of the proverbial heap. Men who have so much power, and yet are powerless against the woman who will steal his heart. Of course, I have a soft spot in my heart for the working class guy, too. The one running his own business, trying to make a living, making bending a few laws if he needs to. One who works so hard, he needs to break free every once and a while. Let loose. Have fun. And if the bad boy is rich? Double whammy.
CARLY: I tend to go for the masculine occupations, sports, bodyguard, cop … I realize from answering this that I don’t always write what I preach but I think it’s the kind of hero I gravitate towards but that’s another blog. Seriously!
LESLIE: I don’t really choose my favorite heroes on occupation, but more on character type. I’m a major gamma gal…I love flirtatious, sexy bad boy charmers. Don’t particularly care for ruthless alphas, and definitely don’t like soft and tender betas. Give me a Rhett Butler sexy ladies man with a twinkle in his eye and a charming smile–but a will of steel lurking beneath it–every time.

Janelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

I too like the bad boy charmers, the ones that are used to getting what they want and find themselves either having to resist the heroine for a good reason (i.e. woman engaged/dating his best friend/brother, etc) or she wants nothing to do with him and he’s never been denied before – he’s met his match. I love those heroes. He is confident, charming, sexy, and he knows it. But he also loves women, respects them, enjoys their company. He plans on spending his time with as many women as he can but then he meets her – “the one”. Seeing a bad boy fall in love is so irresistible.
I do tend to prefer the working class (blue-collar) hero best – a man who works with is hands, has a great body and wears tight jeans and a t-shirt, but can look phenomenal in a tux. I love contradictions – he might be blue collar but maybe he’s a voracious reader or plays the stockmarket for fun. It’s the essence of the man, not really his occupation, that I am drawn to.

Good question. There are so many.
Cowboys, cops, FBI, bodyguards are esp. good, heroes who have made it big coming from a poor background, blue collar workers – yes Stacy they are good with their hands and know how to use their tools. LOL. Also the man next door and cant forget the bad boys and the rich successful man who enjoys pampering his heroine but is not obnoxious of course.

Oh that’s a great question. I’m with you Janelle. I love the bodyguard type (cops, PIs, etc.) Bad boys run a very close second because I seem to have a soft spot for them bad boys.

You are going to laugh at me…I like the corporate raider/executive nerdy (they are so quietly sexy) type. Maybe that’s why I married one of them! My husband always laughs at me when I tell him he is like that. I also like them tall (even though my husband isn’t), dark and sexy (he’s those).

I like the Secret Agent, FBI, Cops, heroes that like Janelle says have to have close contact with the heroine. But I also like the blue collar worker, who has made it by hard work and determination, There are so many heroes out there, and so little time to read them all, but those are my favorites………Oh and did I mention that they have to be tall.

I tend to go for the protector types and the sports men. Love em!

Oh my! Tall, dark & dangerous military heroes, firefighters, cops, construction workers, they can even be men that wear a suit to work! A man that looks great in jeans & a t-shirt or a tux gotta love him!! I especially love a man that knows how to treat his lady & a man that can cook, very sexy oh yea I’m a sucker for blue eyes! Partly that is what I want to read about & partly my very own fantasy man. (l)
Have a great day everyone. :)

Well, I guess as a whole, I like the suit types. (Think I got that from first Lois and Clark’s Lex Luthor, then Fox Mulder from the X-Files, etc.) Love the alphas, but not too extreme, really hate that. But ultimately, love science nerds. My ultimate favorite there, being a physics major and all, is Tyber the physicist from Dara Joy’s High Energy and High Intensity. :) (which is probably why I fell for Fox Mulder!! LOL) :)

I like a hero that can definately take care of himself, self sufficient, and muscular. But of course he has to have a soft spot for his girl. He may not want to admit it or show it in public but he cherishes the ground she walks on and would do ANYTHING for her. Oh..and did I mention the muscles?? He needs to be big and strong to protect her. LOL!! :d

I tend to like the heros that Leslie likes. I fell hard for Rhett all those years ago.
You gotta love a bad-boy that deep down has a good guy trying to find a way out.

I love any guy who is a soldier but Marine’s are my favorite. They treat women well, most do anyhow. They are strong and sexy. A uniform gets me everytime.
