Carly’s Reviews Reviews Redux
What is it about …
Stupid movie comedies?
My favorite movies are stupid comedies that are funny because they are impossible to believe and insanely funny.

Here is my review criteria in case you forgot, although today I’m only listing my all time favorites, including one movie out now that I just saw tonight.
And so I bring to you, Carly’s Backseat Reviews, part 2
.
5 Carly Hearts - :love2::love2::love2::love2::love2: Don’t Miss
4 Carly Hearts - :love2::love2::love2::love2: Catch it on DVD or Reruns but DO catch it
3 Carly Hearts - :love2::love2::love2: It passes time
2 Carly Hearts - :love2::love2: At least it’s noise in the background while I’m working
1 Carly Heart - :love2: Don’t even bother with the DVD or Rerun
Broken Carly Heart - :unlove: Don’t even turn on the TV
My all time favorite comedy?
SAVING SILVERMAN
5 Carly Hearts – :love2::love2::love2::love2::love2: - make no mistake this isn’t brain surgery
but that’s exactly what makes it so much fun. For me, it was Jack Black before I knew who Jack Black was. I’m a huge Neil Diamond fan and when these guys start to play Hot August Night in wigs, I’m hysterical. But what’s the best is the bathroom humor. What’s funny is, I bought this on DVD so I could own it, not realizing it was uncensored. I HATED IT because guess what? Dirty humor isn’t funny when it’s every other word. When it’s unexpected moments that come out of someone’s mouth, you can’t help but roar with laughter. My friend Sharon recently picked it up for me in Target in DVD in it’s old Rated R version. Good thing. My VCR tape was wearing out.
TALLEDEGA NIGHTS
5 Carly Hearts – :love2::love2::love2::love2::love2: I saw this with my daughter tonight. My ten year old. I think I’ve mentioned this before but I’m a pretty permissive mom when it comes to these kinds of movies. She’s my movie buddy and we loved this one. Again, not brain surgery but if you want to spend the night laughing and being shocked that you’re actually laughing at something so ridiculous, this movie is for you. This movie for me was reminiscent of …
DODGEBALL
5 Carly Hearts – :love2::love2::love2::love2::love2: - because I could not catch my breath when these poor bastards ran through the street blindfolded and the old guy threw wrenches at the guys heads for training.

‘Nuff said.
My old favorite …
OVERBOARD
5 Carly Hearts – :love2::love2::love2::love2::love2: - and again, it’s so unbelievable, it’s actually funny. Goldie Hawn, a wealthy bitch gets amnesia, and Kurt Russell brings her home as his wife and mother of his obnoxious rambunctious boys to get revenge for her not paying him on a construction job he did for her prior to the amnesia. He brings home Salvation Army clothes to prove she lived there … She holds up a dress and he says, “You were shorter then. And it was before you lost the weight.?” To make this movie complete, it’s a romantic comedy. Love it.
And last but certainly not least …
WEDDING CRASHERS
5 Carly Hearts - :love2::love2::love2::love2::love2: - just because I couldn’t catch my breath watching it.
I bow down
to writers who can put this all on paper, hand it to an actor and KNOW they can pull off funny. Funny isn’t easy. It’s hard. Probably as hard as us writing love scenes if not worse.
As for MIAMI VICE, well, when I wrote last week’s blog, I was really enjoying the old version. I’ve since decided I have no desire to see a dark movie when I could go and laugh instead.
Next up? BARNYARD because … what happens in the barnyard, stays in the barnyard.
Am I the only one who hates dark, hates scary, hates sad endings and will only watch either comedy, romance or a blend of the two?
I hope you all have a week filled with ![]()

And such “guy” movies too LOL. I’ve seen Overboard and Wedding Crashers. I loved Overboard - Goldie and Kurt were terrific. Wedding Crashers was kinda funny, but not as good as I was expecting. But to each their own, right.
I always liked Three Fugitives with Nick Nolte and Martin Short - that one cracks me up everytime.

I actually love all kinds of movies–I’ve seen (and really enjoyed) most of the movies you listed. But there are times when I just want to be terrified…lol! I bought the Final Destination 3 DVD, which has the feature that you can “change” the movie with your remote–picking which way the story will go. Stupid, I know, but lots of fun!
I actually watch movies based on my mood. Love rich dramas that make me cry (Sophie’s Choice, Saving Private Ryan) or comedies that make me howl (All Of Me, Monty Python and the Holy Graill, A Fish Called Wanda) or something that will terrify me (The Others, Skeleton Key) I’m a movie junkie too.

I like scary movies while I’m watching them, but I’m always left with this creepy feeling in the pit of my stomach afterwards. Therefore, no scary movies for me. And no unhappy endings (think Brokeback Mountain and The Notebook). While I enjoyed these movies, I felt so sad at the end. Ultimately, I like to feel good at the end. And I really like to laugh. My hubby and I recently watched REBOUND on cable (Martin Short coaching a kid’s basketball team). It was SOOO funny. All-time favorite movie? There are so many, but I think Grease would have to be my favorite (pure romance). I saw it at the drive-in (which tells you how old I am) when I was six. Love, love, loved when they changed for each other at the end!

Ooops, forgot my favorite stupid movie–I think the all-time classic would be Wayne’s World (the first one). Laughed and couldn’t believe I was laughing. Recently on pay per view, hubby and I watched the one where the guy poses as a candidate in the special olympics (can’t remember the name). I know, it sounds tacky, but it was extremely funny. Very glad we watched it.

i like almost any kind of movie except scary ones. Unless of course it is a funny, scary one like Scary Movie. I took my daughter and her friends to see the first one, I think it was PG-13, and laughed more than they did. Now it is a tradition if they put out another one, no matter how bad, we all go. And they are all adults now. I always tended to be a little permissive too when it came to movies, books, music.
I love animated movies and am just as happy to go to them, even by myself, than most of the dreck they put out these days.
give me a good classic on DVD any time.

I love comedies! All time favorite has got to be Super Troopers! Slap Stick comedy at it’s best!!!!! Dodge Ball rocks, yes Carly my son loves the part when the guys have to dodge the wrenchs. I also love action adventure all the Die Hard movies. But my absolute favorite Action movie True Lies with Arnold. I love this movie so much that when I went into labor with my son (my water broke at home) I refused to leave the house until Hubby found the movie so I could watch it in the labor room!!

Comment by Jill — August 15, 2006 @ 10:22 am
I used to love scary movies.
I just can’t seem to stomach them anymore. My husband loves Saw and the Final Desination movies. I tell him if he wants to watch them go downstairs. I’m much happier reading a book. I love comedies and especial Romantic comedies.
I hate sad endings I don’t want to watch them. Give me a movie that I can laugh at and enjoy watching and I’m happy.

Hi,
I have been away for a few weeks. Had surgery, then went to the sticks to visit my family, who just moved away. I have missed you ladies and I love :love2::love2::love2:the new “smiley people” choices. So cool. Makes me want to say the word party
just to insert the little guys.
Thanks for the movie review. I have been wondering if Talladega Nights was worth the 100.00 to go.
Comment by Debbie — August 15, 2006 @ 12:20 pm

I prefer a blend of comedy and romance. I hate horror movies, but can tolerate shoot em’ up blood and guts flicks.

My daughter got me hooked on Dumb & Dumber for a good silly laugh
and I like almost anything with Amanda Bynes - What a Girl Wants & Big Fat Liar - or John Candy - Uncle Buck, Trains, Planes & Automobiles! I like happy endings too - so on that note DO NOT rent Prime with Meryl Streep & Uma Thurman - 2 hours of drama just to have a blah sad ending…….
Comment by Nina — August 15, 2006 @ 4:27 pm
Oh, I am going to rent Something New with that gorgeous hottie Simon Baker! :love2: If you google his name, one of his pictures (on the beach in the buff) will have you drooling for hours!

I love movies & have rented some good ones lately plus a friend loaned me some from her collection. A Walk to Remember was very good, sad in a way but a beautiful love story. Recently I saw The Notebook & loved it, so good. I read the book a long time ago. Monster-in-Law was another one I recently watched & it is funny. Somethings Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson & Diane Keaton was good, funny in parts Keanu Reeves is nice to look at in this movie!!
It has been quite some time since I saw Overboard but it was good. Funny movies—how about all the old Martin & Lewis movies or Lucy & Desi in the Long, Long Trailer–priceless!!
Will Farrell in Elf was very funny! Laughter is always good for the soul & making you feel good.

Loved Overboard and Wedding Crashers. You’re reviews are spot on for those two, Carly. I haven’t seen the others flicks. We don’t get out to movies much! Someday when the kids are older.
